"What are the odds we have to fight our neighbors or even family to defend ourselves this year?"

This is a question I was asked today by my oldest daughter.

I thought about it and honestly I couldn't honestly tell her it's low. Trump knows if he loses this election he's going to prison for the rest of his life. Biden knows if he loses the election and trump successfully weaponizes the DOJ and seizes absolute power then Biden is getting persecuted by Trump's gestapo. Both sides have their lives on the line this November and the American people will be more charged than any time since the 1800s against each other.

My question for this thread is what happens if Trump takes power this year?

What will you be doing this year to prepare for the possibility of blood shed ahead of the election and in the aftermath of it?

Moving to Spain... OK, to be fair that's our plan regardless of what happens in November after we retire; but that will make it a certainty. We currently don't have grandkids, and Mrs. MO says that might change our plans. i've said if Trump wins we may be living apart after 40+ years of marriage, because she can stay here but I'm going with or without her.

Catalonia seems like a nice place.

They won’t be as charged as things were on January 6th, and they aren’t showing up to defend Trump at his court appearances, and the “convoy” they put together for Eagle Pass is the kind of shitshow you’d expect out of these people.

These people maybe easily manipulated by Trump, but that’s because they’re morons who talk a lot of shit but don’t back it up.

Trump supporters won’t do shit. They fucked around on Jan 6th and are crying in court rooms asking judges not to send them to prison. They are the definition of all bark no bite.

But that definitely doesn’t mean don’t vote

My Trumper wife has purchased steaks & other "needs assistance / not canned or freeze dried" food "because what if there is anarchy & societal collapse?" & I remind her that if this happens, electricity will go out & those steaks (that are not at all anything I would have chosen) will go bad in the freezer.

If we lost power, imagine how many Trumpkins would be stuck when they couldn’t charge up their Rascal scooters or refrigerate their insulin.

Perhaps I am fortunate, but every known right winger around me is at least in their 70s or older, and most are in poor health.  Some will not live to see the election, and I suspect some will not survive the shock they are going to get when the results aren't what Fox tells them it will be.  Either way, I'd say at least in my case, basically zero as to the original question.

I do think there will be isolated cases of violence, but isolated only.  To be honest, I don't think this is a group of people really capable of pulling off something organized.  As to the isolated violence, given what goes on just about everyday, are we really even going to notice the difference?  That's sad to say, but given the number of mass shootings we see just about everyday, if we have one or two, they will likely be fresh in our memories for about week until the next one, which might be about the new Ninja Turtle movie or something else just as absurd.  We will move on, have some thoughts and prayers mentioned, innocent people will die for absolutely no reason, and not much if anything will change.  It's fucking pathetic, but that's where we are.

Most will back down when they realize there is resistance. Armed resistance. Way too many are under the impression that democrats are anti gun and so they are in no danger. Couple shots headed back at them will disabuse them of that, and suddenly life takes priority over liberty.

all you have to do is play Taylor Swift songs and maga will be too shook to shoot straight

also, the avg maga person can’t walk up a flight of stairs, let alone walk a 100 yards. they’re not doing shit but flapping their gums, cashing those govt checks, and smoking cigarettes

My good friends and neighbors don't talk politics.  The ones who gravitate to that discussion are fucking blackballed from block parties and get-togethers.

I don't see the election result changing anything other than the volume/ talking points of the folks stuck in that mode.

Fuck that life of hate.

Trump winning is the existential threat because he will have 4 years to install loyalists who won’t enforce the constitution.

Trump losing will be hilarious, and any gravy seals that try anything will be imprisoned.

My parents are still trying to find ways to use their Y2K freeze dried food cans. It still makes me chuckle whenever I see the last few dozen bins of it at their house. They spent about $5k stocking the pantry and garage with some prepper package from an End Times Alarmist "ministry" that was available on short wave radio. You know, the one from of communication the government can't shut down and will be used by the real patriots when the US falls into anarchy!

One of my great Aunt's put in a safe for precious metals around this time (we found out after she passed).  Come to find out, the safe she had installed cost more than what she put in the safe.  She had an odd mix of some platinum (why on earth she thought that would help her?), copper, some gold and silver.  I made the joke at the time that she was going to build her own satellite post apocalypse.  She'd have fit right in these days.

You aren't alone.

What is this, @Brisketexan fantasy porn?

I'm more concerned about the geopolitical state of the world and the AI Pandora's box that we're sticking our dicks in than America eating itself alive. I think the political middle is getting increasingly fed up with both sides.

I honestly don’t know how you deal with that situation.  But congrats, I guess, on marrying an insane woman who is crazy in the sack

We're mostly guys so we assumed she meant "physical combat," but she's a woman so "fight" probably meant "disagree verbally."

In either case, no.

The nearest Trump sign to me was over on another street. It's a couple with a puppy and the lady belongs to my wife's running club. I guess if blood flows in the streets she (meaning the Trumpkin 400 yards away, not my wife (I hope)) might try to chase me down and stab me in the neck with a screwdriver, if so, may I go down fighting so that they let me into Valhalla.

The one Walter Sobchak type guy I would suspect of going off on some violent rampage due to Trump losing already died of Covid.

There are still some, but definitely fewer Trump signs and flags in my area than there were 2015-2020. I noticed earlier this week one property that hadn't had his Trump fence banner up for a while had an estate sale sign out front.

I swear, some on the left fantasize about this stuff as much as nutty righties do.

A lot of it is such weird projection. The “left” is not going to riot. The “left” did not try to overturn the 2016 results.

Yeah but Hillary didn't concede the election until 1am on election nigh.  Also remember Al Gore took his case to court and didn't concede for a few weeks, so it's about the same as Trump. Nothing unusual at all...
