Thumb dislocation = likely not back before playoffs IF it needs surgery. The talk about could have come back tends to make me think that surgery is not expected. Some finger (and thumb) dislocations are stable once popped back into place. Even those, however, are going to be associated with some degree of tearing or peeling of ligaments and some swelling while they heal. I can't remember treating one of these in a skill player, if I've done it for an athlete at all. Wheel of fortune IMO.

Not an ortho but I’ve had 3 non surgical finger dislocations that I’ve reset in the past 2 years in high-school athletes and all were back at it in 3 weeks or less. Big caveats: 1.None were thumbs. 2. None were having to catch piss missiles from Arch Manning.

I dislocated my middle finger when I punched my buddy's fist during a disorderly disagreement.
A random dude said he was an EMT, so I let my buddy buy me a shot and then the rando EMT pulled my middle finger back into place.

Shit still hurts seven years later.

Couple months ago I leaned back on the couch with my fingers interlocked across my chest. Woke up about 2 hours later and had pulled my middle finger out of socket I guess. Still hurts like a mfer. Getting old is dumb

Doctors in the chat, what would a player do to come back and play in 2 weeks if it’s a dislocation? Just curious what kind of shots or pain relief they would give on gameday and what kind of braces that might be used that would still give him use of that hand/thumb in the game.
