NY Times article

Oct. 15, 2025, 1:56 p.m. ET

The Trump administration has secretly authorized the C.I.A. to conduct covert action in Venezuela, according to U.S. officials, stepping up a campaign against Nicolás Maduro, the country’s authoritarian leader.

The authorization is the latest step in the Trump administration’s intensifying pressure campaign against Venezuela. For weeks, the U.S. military has been targeting boats off the Venezuelan coast it says are transporting drugs, killing 27 people. American officials have been clear, privately, that the end goal is to drive Mr. Maduro from power.

The new authority would allow the C.I.A. to carry out lethal operations in Venezuela and conduct a range of operations in the Caribbean.

The agency would be able to take covert action against Mr. Maduro or his government either unilaterally or in conjunction with a larger military operation. It is not known whether the C.I.A. is planning any operations in Venezuela or if the authorities are meant as a contingency.

I'm listening to Trump's press conference. It is just insanity.
- he just makes shit up. Just wild claims and statements.
- he cannot stay on topic for 15 seconds. He just bounces around like a ping pong ball. It's disorienting.
- he is so incredibly divisive. You are either 100 percent on his side, or you are evil.

I sometimes just want to cry when I realized how low we have to have sunk that we elected this thing to the office of the president

Why would you do this?

honest question for anyone here with the knowledge to break this down for me:
what, exactly, would happen if an abc reporter asked donald trump a question, donald trump said, “you’re abc, you’re fake news, you’re mean to me, i won’t talk to you”, and the reporter responded with, “baby want a bottle?”
what would happen? what would be the fallout? what would happen to the reporter? would it ultimately be a good thing that led to others becoming more brave and calling the dotard on his shit, or would the reporter be sent to siberia and that would be that?

I’d really hope for the former.

But I’d bet money on the latter.

"Covert" CIA action - what do you mean "covert"? Does Venezuela not get the NYT?

Or just another round of bullshit propaganda. Got it.

And he didn’t get the Nobel?

If he doesn't receive a special Nobel Peace Prize, Trump is going to attack with carrier and air forces. Preferably against countries that can't do anything about it.

Imagine being such a pissant country you're reduced to picking on Venezuela.

It's being a bully.

But also, Venezuela sucks outloud so it's not going to get a lot of pushback unless Trump goes full Bibi and starts war-criming and genociding.

CNN is reporting that they expect the shutdown to break the record, extending beyond Thanksgiving.

Also, Venezuela seems to have the early lead in the Get Invaded by America Sweepstakes.

Is America great again yet?

I think Los Angeles, Chicago and Portland have Venezuela already beat, no?

I like this. But I do enjoy seeing cool shit in the flyover. Best one I ever saw was Eurofighters doing low level afterburner at the 100 year anniversary of Le Mans over the track. Shit that was way more intense than they would allow here. Guy next to me had his kid crying and he was just laughing.

Back when I was about six or so I was playing in my grandmother’s back yard when an F-4 Phantom came out of nowhere hauling ass. It wasn’t much over tree top level. That sumbitch was loud.

This is the only thing I approve of putting those motley words together.

I apologize it looks like Youtube is currently having a major outage.
