Colbert has 10 more months. He is going to go absolutely scorched earth on Dotard in those 10 months. I actually wonder if he makes it to May.

Cool. I'm sure it will make a huge difference to his audience comprised 100% of people that already agree with him.

Also, he probably won't. He's a bit more of a company man than I think most of us expected when he made the jump. He'll want to make sure everyone on staff gets every paycheck possible.

There's no way anyone watches him right? I haven't watched since the Colbert Report.

For some time I’ve been kicking around buying a Marantz Cinema 70s AV Receiver to up my movie sound game a bit.

it was on the low end of the AVR spectrum, being only $1000.   I instantly ordered it online once Trump announced the 30% Japan, Korea, tariffs.   I looked five minutes ago on the Marantz site - it is now $1,300.

So yes, it is now a thing.

Once these price shocks set in, this is going to go very badly for them.  For some reason, Wall Street is completely ignoring this.  Everyone is thinking they're not as bad as they thought but in reality, they haven't even started in most cases.

Everyone pulled forward as much inventory as possible and when that sells through, people will be in for a shock.  Might take the rest of the year, depending on the category.

We watched him and Kimmel pretty regularly until the election but we don’t need a daily recap of what crazy shit Trump did before trying to sleep. Back to Family Guy or King of the Hill reruns now.

CBS’s Late Show was the only show among the nine tracked by LateNighter to draw more total viewers in Q2 than it had in the first quarter of 2025—although just barely, with the show growing its audience by 1% quarter over quarter. All told, the Stephen Colbert-hosted show averaged 2.42 million viewers across 41 first-run episodes, comfortably outpacing ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.77 million) and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (1.19 million). In the advertiser-coveted 18–49 demo, however, Kimmel surged ahead with 220,000 viewers—his strongest performance in a year—edging out Colbert (219,000) and leaving Fallon (at 157,000) in a distant third.

I spent the last two years trying to pay off every debt I have except the two-something percent mortgage, now less than six figures to pay off.  I see no reason to pay it off when I make more than my mortgage interest on investments.

i’m very close to being able to live off my Social Security and the interest on my savings.   Not living large, obviously, but food, shelter, utilities, and occasional dining and vacations are covered.  So we’re talking inside cabin berth carnival cruise instead of first class airfare and a Viking European river cruise.    We’re talking pasta dinners at home instead of lunches at Clancy‘s and Herbsaint.

Having lived a life where food and shelter was not always a thing, I will be extremely fine having those and dumping most of my streaming entertainment and cable - and getting back to reading more - which I unconsciously abandoned doing at some point and need to go back to.

Which is all to say, I urge all of you optimists to take this very seriously and start hunkering down, saving money and preparing for some hard times ahead.   Those of you with Obamacare or Medicaid for your health situations need to be even more cognizant of this, and depending on your medical situation moving to a Third World country that has OK medical care that you can purchase cheaply there might be an option.

Once things get really bad I do not expect them to recover anytime soon.

A lot of us have begun to understand that brisket sledge is an actual thing. Once you accept that reality, the next step is thinking about what happens when you fall off the ledge.

I'm thinking about the stuff in my house and the four creatures that expect me to feed them. I don't want more stuff. I want to shed the responsibility of owning it. I don't want my daughter to have to deal with a pile of stuff that she doesn't want and is a pain in the ass to unload. If I can get it down to a pick up load by the time I am ready to exit this mortal coil that's fine with me.

Retirement? Bwahaha!

I'll retire when she pours my ashes into the Gulf.

Our President is discussing the important issues of the day.

I assumed the would be the follow up to changing the names of military bases back. I’m surprised it took him this long.

I’m sure by the end of the year, a Texas state congressman from East Texas will introduce a bill to start changing street names back. Azie Morton Rd will become Robert E Lee again.

Lynsi Snyder says her family is relocating to Tennessee as In-N-Out expands east, citing the challenges of raising kids and doing business in California.

“There were so many pressures and just hoops we were having to jump through,” Snyder said on the podcast. “You’ve got to do this, you have to wear a mask, you gotta put this plastic thing up between us and our customers and it was really terrible.”

The article is confusing.  One part says moving to TN, later notes that corporate has moved back to Baldwin Park.

“You’ve got to do this, you have to wear a mask, you gotta put this plastic thing up between us and our customers and it was really terrible.”  What a sniveling cunt.

I interpret this as Tennessee is planning on giving them some pretty big tax breaks to move corporate headquarters. If they are trying to establish personal residency for tax purposes on that end, they probably bought a big horse farm where they will “reside” for as many days a year as required to demonstrate residency, and that if they have school-age kids, they will go to an elite prep school, assuming they’re not already going to some boarding school on the East Coast or abroad. Also, just noticed it’s from parade magazine so who knows

One kind of interesting aspect of this, like marijuana laws, is the conflict between state and federal laws.

Several states have at least partially restored felon gun rights, like Texas permits a felon to own a gun but only on the premises of the home five years after the completion of their sentence.

But federal law criminalizes possession or ownership of guns by felons, period.

I think it's been like marijuana:  if the state permits it, the feds won't prosecute it, but not sure on that.

I understand that if you're operating in good faith you can see it like that, but you MUST remember. None of these goddamn fucking fascists are acting in good faith. This is a means to re-arm their street fighters so they can use more violence to meet their political means.

I bet you're right about the incentive package to relocate the headquarters. In the world of economic development, states take pride in and love to tout the number of corporate headquarters they have, especially those of well-known companies.

Business Insider's piece is a little clearer. It looks like they're doing some consolidating on the West Coast as they relocate to Nashville's suburbs.

https://www.businessinsider.com/in-n-out-lynsi-snyder-relocation-california-tennessee-business-expansion-2025-7

And how pathetic it is that she's bitching about old Covid restrictions from FOUR YEARS AGO in the present tense?

Edit: This is probably like a lot of other relocations out of California, where they leave the vast bulk of their operations in-state but have a small "headquarters" in Tennessee for tax purposes.

It was Jap Road and was renamed Boondocks Road after a restaurant that used to be out there. It's not very close to Vidor. More like between Port Arthur, Winnie, and Fannett.

The biggest thing to me, honestly, is the fact that the State of Texas is not gaining the relocation of another company.

We all know they would have bent over backwards.  Maybe they chose not to.
