I assume there will be an executive order that seizes/stops Social Security benefits to traitors to the administration who leave the country and take money out… making them traitors to the country.

Grok will review emails and recorded phone calls and social media to see who gets cut-off… at least until they force ex-pats to return to sign their loyalty oaths.   Allowing some to be arrested and their assets seized so that they don’t cause problems for Trump in those other shit-hole countries.

Interview today. well we think you might fit the Deputy role. It would be a cut in pay, but we would want you overseas. Where do you think is best.

Me, trying hard not to smile. "South of France since I have a place to live cheap or Istanbul for travel would work."

Job is supporting EU humanitarian and peacekeeping. Yeah, I could do it....

Long term plan has always been two small farms. East Slope of the Andes for part of the year, Highlands of Kenya for the rest.

Outstanding. I can't do what you do, but I'd make a pretty good batman... just saying... 😉

Portugal is a good base for me because 1) I'm okay with the language, 2) my remaining family mostly live in the UK, 3) it's a fair enough base for onward travels. Two of my favorite places, Lesotho and Mindelo (Cabo Verde) probably are too remote for me long term. When in doubt, my "if they make good wine there, the climate and scenery will do" will always lead me to a good place.

Having looked into it, most of my places have low populations of leopards, so there's that too.

Eu falo.

part of the rationale for those two locations on this project are 1- cost of living, and 2- capacity to travel anywhere. He suggested Dubai and I almost spit out my tea. Already did that and hated the place. I was happy when my boss told me I have to go to Kabul or Oman for an assignment. That was in the days when I focused on State and before the move to work USAID.

My wife LOVED Dubai. Was a good place for the kids to grow up, but I could not stand it.

I could not do England. Only Brits I get along with are those who got the fuck out of England.

Tinho amigos en Praia. It is one of the places on our ops radar. But better for another thread. MORE LEOPARDS!

OK, I got one. So I was up in Front Royal over the weekend. MAGA as all hell. Poor as shit, full of opiods, and man, the people.... God and Trump will save them.

They are fucked. I feel bad for my wife who has to work there. Oh, and they fucked up Pad Thai. Like they added gummy worms  to it. How do you fuck up a simple Thai meal?

Fuck em.

MOAR leopards indeed! Sorry to all for the derail. And - said leopards need to take a short break to feast on whatever dumbass puts gummy worms in Pad Thai. I mean, MAGA or no, some things simply shall not stand.

My ex's family is upcountry South Carolina MAGA (she wasn't); over 300 or so years they slowly made their way down the Appalachians from the Front Royal area. It's all the same and I think the Blue Ridge Parkway is becoming infested with very hungry leopards, awaiting the feast.

Yep. Leopards that shoot opiods. Man, that used to be a nice place. Growing up I loved going to Front Royal. Now it is just, well, mierda. We are fighting right now, and I still feel bad for the wife.

Early 2000's it was livable for them. Yeah they liked skiing inside the mall. Lot of time at the ocean. Weekends up in the mountains or dessert parks. Abu Dhabi was not what it is today. Not at all.

My kids speak English, Spanish (pretty fluent), French (pretty good) and basic Arabic. So for Elementary school that ain't bad.

I mean, I might know. I spent almost 8 years based out of there. It was let the kids live in a really nice house, friends of all over the world where they got to still see their dad most of the time, or nah, leave them back in Texas and rarely see them. But I know what you mean. I never liked it but it was the best place to work out of. I would never go back. It has gotten a shit ton worse and we got out of there as the pivot started.

It's possible that one of Trump's most effective political maneuvers was signing stimulus checks. So many morons thought that it really came from him, either personally or because he unilaterally decided to do so.  And they have zero concept on how that affected inflation.

I’ve said it before, until MAGA and non-MAGA are standing on the same soup-line, we won’t fix this electorally.

If that's what it'll take, you oughta be feeling more helpful by the second, because we're accelerating towards that outcome at breakneck speed.

Maybe they were one of those people who were gonna work in one of those Hyundai plants that won't be built now.

Also, here is the soup line discussion:

MAGA: The Democrats caused this.
Non-MAGA: Why did the Democrats let this happen!

Yes.  You did.  You used it to voice words that revealed exactly who you were, when you REALLY probably should have kept your true nature hidden.  I'd agree, she made a mistake.  Also, she's a vile piece of shit, who reflects the Trumpian id perfectly.  This is who Trumpists are.  Some of them have the self-discipline NOT to say the shit she did.  But self-discipline is the only difference between them.

Well, it was kinda, sorta, meant to be a metaphor for the great depression.  As  long as some people are doing well, they will not care if others are not.  If everyone is going bankrupt, losing their home, becoming unemployed, not having food or healthcare, etc., there is a greater chance that the now-impoverished electorate will see that it as “us versus the oligarchs”  than white folks doing well because invisible boot straps versus “the other”.

I guess I’m saying people don’t truly ….appreciate….populist ideas when they have self identified themselves as “I’m gonna be richer than I already am!”     When everyone is on the metaphorical bread line it is harder for them to identify with the elite making all the coin on the repossessed home.

(left column is political control of the House, right is Senate)

IMG_5232.thumb.png.1a5822ff97c64e0d6bb4a91df5a7ec66.png

Black Tuesday was October 29, 1929. The Democrats picked up 52 seats in 1930, one short of control.   Republicans passed the Smoot-Hawley tariffs in 1930, further fucking up the economy and intensifying the Great Depression.

Those rock-rib Republicans became populist Democrats when they were all starving and screwed by tariffs with massive unemployment. It may not work this time, but like Obi-Wan Kenobi, it’s my only hope.

Have the day you voted for, shitbirds

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/once-generation-economic-crisis-rural-164404261.html

A survey released by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) on Wednesday showed that 46% believe the U.S. is on the brink of a farm crisis, and another 33% said maybe.

Meanwhile, about two-thirds said they are more concerned about their financial situation compared to a year ago, with 58% postponing equipment purchases, 38% reducing fertilizer applications and 22% looking for more off-farm income.

“These findings point to a once-in-a-generation problem for the agricultural economy,” said NCGA Chief Economist Krista Swanson said in a statement. “The survey findings suggest that this crisis could have a long reach, affecting every area of the economy, as farmers are less likely to make purchases and will certainly make budget cuts that could affect their local communities.”

The bleak survey results mirrored similarly downbeat readings in the Purdue University-CME Group Ag Economy Barometer Index, which fell 10 points in August to 125. A subindex on expectations for the future dropped 16 points to 123, the lowest since last September.

That’s as crop prices have plunged from their 2022 peak, while production costs remain near record highs.

That questionnaire seems slanted to me. Almost like it was designed for negativity.

If asked a different way, like: “Do you think the loss of your farm and home will free up your available spare time to better monitor the status of trans athletes unfairly competing against your daughters? With 1 being most positive, and 10 being most negative, how would you rate the extra time to ensure that high school athletics remain divided by God’s two sexes?”

While I like your idea I think we can shorten it.

Harding to Coolidge to Hoover. The rise of "conservatism" as we know it in US politics. When Americans flocked to it and their shit policies, continuation of prohibition, and rejection of regulation let to overextended financial systems, a corrupt market, and finally the big crash and depression.

Americans making the same mistake 100 years later. The lessons of early 20th century conservatism causing the collapse of the country were completely forgotten by 1980 and here we are again.

They voted for Trump because he was on TV and right wing propaganda is all they consume. Republicans do not, and have never cared about policy beyond getting power, and getting enriched.

Don't forget the bolded addition.  It is very, very, very important.  They want government to hurt people.  That is the #1 purpose and function of government, to the GQP voter.  The only time they get mad is -- and these are their words -- when he's "hurting the wrong people."  That's it.  Not that it hurts people, but that it hurts the wrong (white) people.
