Lol, I’m pretty sure I spent an entire evening trying to explain the historical basis of property law to incredulity before and he literally couldn’t understand it.

Weird since I’m fairly certain he’s a Realtor

Yeah, he's/they're probably gonna try to keep his/they're powder dry for 2028.

Sure, fascists are famous for thinking strategically.

There's not a complete disregard for the constitution.  He's trying to disregard it, sure.  Sorry, I'm not, 'oh no, the republic is toast'.  It's really shitty and it can be beat.  I'm not saying it's not really bad either - look what you said and what I responded to.  I am simply saying we vote a LOT of this asshole's power away in 18 months.

I don't mean to pile on in a thread ostensibly about the National Guard in LA.  And I have biases.  But I don't think voting resolves much of this in the long run.  Everyone knew project 2025 was coming but there was no counter to it presented.  Just please don't vote for Trump.  But on actual plans or roadblocks set up.  The SC has made him (and every future president) an untouchable king in all but name.  Court rulings are being openly ignored.  Nothing DOGE has done is slightly legal at all.  Thousands of Federal workers are unemployed now and organizations in disarray.  Soon to all be privatized.  The first Trump term obliterated the very concept of truth and facts and nothing has been done to restore that.

But bigger than all that to me is if one group (and it's a group, he's too incompetent to do all this) does so much damage in such a short period of time, then how solid was the system in the first place?  Things have been weakened for some time, and executive power was expanded during previous administrations and once expanded it never contracts.  This is not me 'both sidesing' this is me saying the system is broken and has been for very long time.

Can it be repaired?  Not sure.  We've had corporate rule for a while, easily longer than when Trump was even considering running. And Occupy Wallstreet showed me a lot of what happens when you try to fight it.  Not much good seems to happen.  That said, I'm not saying give up, I'm not saying don't vote.  But I personally think we need to push more ideas than we do various people in these parties.  I'm not sure how it works other than we need candidates with actual action plans.  Like real legislation that rolls back corporate involvement and power.  Real legislation that actually helps the common person and blocks abuses of power.  And even as I type that I wonder if that's ever allowed to happen without violence and lives lost.   But just "resist" or just "don't nomalize this" isn't enough imo.

And if you have to hope somehow every 4 years everyone votes in the "right" person/group of people then again, that delicate system is bound to break.

States control elections and there hadn't been any states even Republican ones that were fucked.

Don't be a bitch trump won fair and square in 2024, likely because Elon stepped up when his funding was completely gone. He is fucked.

Good God man, you cannot be serious.

Our voting rights are being challenged every single day.   From mail-in ballots to drop boxes.   Constant fuckery.  Here's one example https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/dodge-city-moves-only-polling-site-gives-voters-wrong-address-1353478211626

anything that these people can do to make it harder to vote, they will do.  Especially if you're black or brown.  Live in ATL?  If you're in a white precinct, you'll have multiple voting machines. Live in a black precinct, you'll have one or two.  And it's illegal for somebody to give you even a bottle of water while you're standing in line.

Guys like Marc Elias are fighting the good fight every day, but he cannot win them all, particularly with this SCOTUS.

The scariest part of that is his usage of the word “liberate”. Fucking full blown escalation is clearly his goal.

This is the United States (para)military invading a peaceful protest looking to provoke it into an unpeaceful protest.  And they're selling it as a liberation.

I'm afraid someone is going to open fire on the ICE agents or National Guard, and all hell is going to break loose.  This is so fucking bad.

I actually agree with almost all of this.  Just he still can’t do anything he wants.  Or he wouldn’t be threatening the judiciary.  The guy deported to a prison in Guatemala would not be coming back etc.

I don’t think people understand a malignant narcissist.  He wants to literally kill anyone that disagrees or badmouths him.  That’s definitely not happening and he definitely wants that.

Trump himself doesn’t exactly have a well articulated “vision” for the country… for him, it’s more of a one-day-at-a-time, wake up and see how many fights he can pick, what can he get away with, and how can he make a fast buck off this shit.

He’s the pinnacle of white trash.

A lot of it is feeding red meat to the stupid media, I wish we could all slap them and tell them the distractions he does are a shit spray.

What is happening in LA is real news however.

You’re not sure why I don’t believe him?  He’s lied once or twice before.

True, but he isn't the one pushing for Authoritarianism. The Heritage Foundation is and breaking democracy is their whole goal with Project 2025. The only thing standing in their way is Trump and his Cabinet's incompetence. Even still, they've done a pretty bang up job in only 6 months while being imbeciles. If they keep the pedal down all the way through the finish line we will be looking at Russia 2.0, where Trump get's re-elected with 70%of the vote.

Protesters have blocked the 101 outside of downtown.   Seems like it is just protestors at LAPD at this time

Live stream.   Dude is annoying, but whatever

Blocking the freeway, waving Mexican flags, seems counterproductive.   Thankfully, though, everything seems peaceful at this point.

Yes.  I'm sure that the fox news watchers that display the Confederate flag are outraged.

101 has pretty much been cleared.   Looked like maybe 4-5 arrests but no violence.   Probably 500 protestors and then a bunch of people watching from the feeder road and overpass.   Definetly seemed like more onlookers than protestors.

Listening to the mayor of LA sound like such an intelligent, educated adult in spite of what's going on is enraging.  She has 1% of Trump's power, and he has 1% of her qualifications.
