Seems like it would be difficult to know how many RV campers & weekenders were in the area.

They might know the number of reservations, but not the head count for each one.

The few RV parks I have stayed in over the years always required a headcount at check in. And quite a few had you list names of everyone associated with the individual site. But I don’t have a huge amount of experience, and all of the parks we stayed at were either federally/state managed or on the higher end of private.

I will admit to not knowing enough about the specific camping areas(not the kids camps just general camping) there but it could be that anyone within 100-150 yards of the normal river shoreline on either side could have been swept away, considering how high and fast the water rose.   It is just awful.

I have a cousin who lives near liberty hill who had flood water in to their back pasture and was posting video of cleanup. One of their friends was taking some front end loaders down to Kerrville to help w debris removal and said they heard from people down there “100’s” are unaccounted for. Any official updates on number of missing?

I think it’s going to be worse than any of us could imagine.

A former coworker is missing near Hunt. It sounds like a large family group was camping on the river. They’ve located 1 member of their party. She managed to hang on in a tree. It’s very possible most of his family got wiped out. Just awful.

“Could’ve been worse” if the flood happened 24 hours later after countless more would’ve arrived at the campgrounds and RV parks next to the river for the weekend, fireworks, drinking. No way to know how many planned to drive up on Friday morning. Seems like most of the fatalities are coming from these spots than the youth camp(s).

I think the fact they don’t want to throw number out there is because they truly don’t know. When it’s all said and done it could approach 200+

CNN is doing some big reporting on the ground. Their chief investigative reporter is a Mystic Alum and is following the story. Quoting from another thread:

Horrible receipts to find. Kerr County didn't interact with NWS while all adjacent counties did.

CNN has been all over this.

Shit, I watched Mercy Chefs put 400 meals into boxes in 30Mins today. That is while they were running a full cafeteria. I ran them. BBQ is free all over the town. Tamales when you are coming in from Comfort.

The operation being run by CityWest Church is impressive. Ms. Connie needs a loggie.

There is plenty of food. There is plenty of water.

As I said on one of these threads on Saturday, Ed Lavandera is a good friend. He’s done some excellent work on this. Texas Ex who lives in Lakewood.

Damn, saw that earlier. Went to the same HS as her parents, though I'm a little older. I have classmates whose daughters were friends of hers.

Actually, it was the grand niece of a different friend, a lady named Debbie who is a lifelong teacher/principle and a close family friend. But my stepbrother and first cousin have children in her classes.

The young man Heartfield is another, but that family is closer to my cousin’s family.

We didn't talk too much darkness, but he did tell me that it would not be surprising if some of the victims ended up in Canyon Lake.

That was a sobering comment.

Well godspeed. You are a very admirable dude. You, my friend, have fought some of the most crazy shit I have ever seen and, somehow came out sane on the other side.

I’ve been relatively absent from the thread today, for my own reasons. I can say that we were pulled back from where we were today (Centerpoint), because of the operational change. They’re bringing dogs in tomorrow, and they don’t want our scent to cause any confusion.

This has been a firsthand shit show. But reading the shit talking on this thread makes me want to put my fucking fist through a wall.

His interview with the father from Beaumont yesterday, made me cry.  His interview with the old timer in front of the Hunt Store made me laugh when he stopped mid sentence to spit.

In 2016, our neighbor tied his johnboat to a sliding chain, about 6 miles below the Granbury dam. It had just gotten dark, about 8:30 pm. We all went back to the houses, above flood stage. Before 6 am, he had a call from the Corps of Engineers to come get his boat off the rocks at the Whitney dam. Over 100 miles in, at the most, 8 hours. How it didn't get snagged? I don't know.

Having lived all but six years of my fifty seven years on the Brazos river, I've seen it bone dry, and I've seen it 40 feet deep, a half mile wide, and runnin' 30 mph, in the middle. God only knows how far they can travel.

When I was a kid we'd drive HWY 90 from SA out the the ranch near the Big Bend Nat'l Park main entrance.  I always thought it was funny seeing all the dams in Sanderson.  My grandmother, who grew up there explained that they once had a flood that washed away the entire town to the extent that even the graveyard was unearthed.  She told me they found many of those remains in the Gulf weeks later around the mouth of the Rio Grande.

If she wasn't bullshitting me, which I can't rule out, then I guess that distance from Hunt/Kerrville to Canyon Lake doesn't seem all that out of the question.

I don't think they will get past the dam, at Canyon. Everyone knows why, but I ain't gonna say it.

I’ve been avoiding posting since trying to find information about my many friends’ little girls. There are posts on social media that name several girls that haven’t been in the news but I know are part of this tragedy.

It looks like the number is 36 Mystic campers and counselors. Not to mention the countless others camping, in river cabins etc. This is going to affect so many families and communities for generations.

💔💔💔

As far as positive news, there are a bunch of La Junta counselors that are absolute heroes. Stories will come out. Miraculous that there weren’t fatalities there.

Have very, very close friends with kids at both.  Their kids all survived.  I’ve already heard some of the heroics at La Junta.  One of my best friend’s son was saved by one who swam under water into a cabin to put him and others out of harm’s way.

This was the debris field when it arrived Saturday morning as seen from my drone up over 300 feet.  No telling what is in that.  Just massive.

Agree, please tell Ed I always appreciate his reporting and know that if something is going on in Texas, I can count on him to be on the hunt to get there

Dropped that brisket and smoked corn on the cob off in Boerne for my son-in-law and his DPS recovery team pals.  That hotel parking lot looked like the big DPS Death Star HQ on Lamar.  Like an elephant grave yard of black and white SUV cruisers.

Anyway, I guess the smoker gods were with me today because this text from him just came though on my drive back to Canyon Lake...
