That’s a nice sentiment, but here in the real world, we may find ourselves longing for Matthew Golden if McJaggerson is one of Texas’ 3 best WRs. “Remember when we had Golden answering every need in clutch moments?” Yeah, we do.

While my statement was made in jest in response to all the hype he has been getting from the 9.95ers, not many expected Golden to turn out the way he did last season. If we are being honest, we thought Bond would be the rainmaker and he completely disappeared in the second half. I also expected a lot from Cook. Let's see how this season plays out. I am not reading anything into the practice reports other than our OL potentially being an issue.

Is this your way of expressing that you’re just now understanding the kicking situation?

It's my sarcastic way of saying don't give a shit if Will Stone misses fgs in training camp

Amazing thing is one of two people who are basically wrong about everything, Nahlin and CTJ, will be correct this time.

Those are really good looking uniforms. I mean they always have been, but they're so much better without the excess clutter and with the SEC logo.

Font is still way too big.

His build reminds me of Randy Moss at Temple. I think he could end up being better. At least as good as Jeff Samardzija

I really want to see what Lockett does with his opportunities, once he learns the plays.  Hell, I can't even get into it with all the sharks in the wr room, but if everybody learns the playbook, it's difficult seeing who is safe outside of a healthy Wingo.  Will be fun to see who the ending starters are.

The way Sark talked about the WRs here in late June makes me feel pretty damn comfortable heading into the season. He's confident. Paraphrasing: "I don't feel good about the WR room, I feel great about it."

I think people forget that Matthew Golden was not a splash pick-up. Known more for his return skills than his receiving. He was the 3rd leading receiver at Houston prior to coming to Texas (9 gamers, 404 yards, 44.9 per game). Hopefully, somoene makes a similar step in the WR room this year.

Not sure how many people watched On Given Saturday on Netflix, but Elko's comments on Texas were interesting. Prior to the game last year he said, "Nobody in the country throws the ball 5 yards or less more than Texas". Made me think about how different this offense is goign to look this year.

It’s going to be fun watching defenses have to defend the whole field and not just 15-20 yards from the LOS.

Yep. Arch’s ability to make more throws, as well as present more than a credible threat with his legs, is really going to open Sark’s offense up. Everyone on offense should benefit. A calm, confident, and competent QB can make up for other offensive deficits (a la Colt and his OL). This OL is better than Colt's, Manning has more comparative upside, and this year's defense should be insane. I'm extremely optimistic regarding Texas' outlook this season.

O line is the key.  If they can be serviceable or a little better, it could be a lot of fun.

This is all setting up perfectly for Livingstone to channel his inner Limas Sweed and catch the game winning TD in Columbus.

I’ll take it, but I do not want to spend the afternoon in that place sweating out another one. Kick them in the balls and make them quit, imo.

I don't know. That comeback win in Columbus in '05 was pretty damn sweet. We walked out of the Shoe observing multiple male tOSU undergrads openly weeping, it was hilarious. Snatched their hearts out like Mola Ram.

Again, I’ll take it. I’d rather them flee the curbstomping and clear the area rather than mill around and throw shit again.

The opening of Sark’s press availability yesterday was the equivalent of football crack.

“Our guys just practiced their asses off. It was awesome. So on to questions…”

There literally could be nothing better for a fan to hear a coach say than that. That’s all anyone can ask a team for - their absolute best effort.

**

Injury updates:

Both Nick Brooks and Nick Townsend returned to practice yesterday and were full go.

We all knew that Brooks had gone down on Saturday afternoon, but we were unaware of Townsend.

It’s clearly good news for both.

Interestingly, those two positions - offensive tackle and tight end - are the only two that have already suffered long-term injuries at the position.

Andre Cojoe is out for the year with a torn ACL. And Emaree Winston is out for a couple of months with a separated shoulder.

It just goes to show that, even when you think you have high-level depth across the board, things can change in an instant.

**

Speaking of things changing in an instant, IMG Academy defensive end Jake Kreul is expected to select Oklahoma later today.

About a month ago, Kreul had been thought to be a heavy lean to OU. But then he took a visit to Texas and became enamored with the Longhorns.

But late last week and into this weekend, it became a matter of prioritization, not only for Oklahoma but also for Texas.

Kreul is a really good player. But Texas will try to nab a bigger fish later. And the Horns will need a lot of bait in the tackle box to accomplish that.

**

Asked about standouts in Saturday’s scrimmage, Sark mentioned defensive tackles Alex January and Maraad Watson.

Remember a week ago when I predicted those two could be day one starters and folks questioned me?

Even though they are both true sophomores, they play with the tenacity of more experienced DTs.

Think of Byron Murphy. Even though he was young when he first arrived to campus, you never really thought of Murphy as a younger player because of how he approached the game.

Watson and January are doing just that.

Cole Brevard and Travis Shaw are the next two up at this time. Brevard actually started the scrimmage opposite January on Saturday.

The Texas staff could also pair one of the true sophomores with one of the run-stopping veterans in a tag-team rotation.

Whatever they decide to do, it appears there is a top four at DT emerging. Lavon Johnson and Hero Kanu will provide key depth and Texas will try to bring along Josiah Sharma and Myron Charles over time.

Were people on the OTF boards questioning whether Freshman All-American Maraad Watson was starter quality? That guy was a massive get.

It’s a bit of an odd feeling for me.  I’m not paying attention to the hype but can’t imagine losing 3 and/or not making the playoffs.  Perhaps the hype is internally created.  The last two years I’ve paid less attention to recruiting than I have in 30+ years.  But I’m all in on us winning it all.

Now, what I do take as true, based on reports is how hard this team works.  There’s no way for me to confirm that.  And, yeah, that will result in us beating the crap out of multiple teams.  The UTEPs and the SHSUs will be a slight step in excitement from a spring game.

Win at Bama two years ago was awesome.  One old man on the way out was very close to dropping an N-bomb about their QB.

Yeah, but Sark and PK had front row seats when Golden balled out against us in 2023 (7 for 88, 2 TDs).

Sometimes being a freshman AA as a linemen just means you were on a bad team and played a lot.  Do not think that is the case here.  But it is a reasonable question.

Our D line is very likely going to be a strength this year.  Which 6 months ago looked doubtful.

Houston QB lit the Texas secondary up to the tune of 32/46 for 378 yards. 3 WRs put up 80 or more yards. Stats were great, but he was not an outlier in the Houston WR corp that day.

I don’t know, he kind of was.  He was a threat in the return game that day, I told my game watching crew he would be a Horn “next year”, he looked  that good.  Spencer and his butt buddy announcer gushed over his speed all game

I remember the big white kid lighting Texas up also .. Ugly day for the secondary, wasnt Barron hurt for most the game? (I think he missed the 1st half and came in later when things got a bit spicy)
