Arch is going to get roasted in film study for several of his reads. Worst was the inc to Livingstone when Wingo was a walk in TD on the rub play.

Lots of nerves for the kid for his first game.

Best news to me was that it looked like we could run both OZ and IZ this year, which was a huge difference from last year.
This wasn't his first game or even start, though.

This same statement could be said about every qb playing a team with equal talent under sark other than at bama. Every single one.

Arch will settle down, he’s thinking too much. Started showing signs at the end especially when he had no pressure down by 2 scores. Will build confidence over the season. I only feel slightly less optimistic after that.  That defense will win most of their games for them minus tons of turnovers if he just starts being average. Out in the semi’s of the playoffs again is my prediction lol

We couldn't run last year. We could today. Ewers with this running game wins fairly easily. That was an absolutely horrific QB performance. He makes a dead simple throw to Wingo and we are tied.

Agreed.  He takes more sacks thogh. But he hits those easy passes.

We will be fine over the long haul. Ohio st had two losses last year and won it all when it mattered most. Overall the defense is gonna keep us in every game and manning will improve game to game. If it was 35-7 I’d be way more worried.

We aren't Ohio State though.

I think we could be better. And we’re better today overall(run game and defense) just the QB had to improve.

Sark still would have called the same shitty redzone and goal line plays

Wouldn’t have needed those plays as much.  Probably kicking FGs there since the offense is moving better.

Exactly.

I said it before but merits repeating this is 70% Sark and 30% Arch.

Nah it’s the reverse.  It was Misty arch and we just need to see him improve.

I'm not saying Sark didn't call some shitty plays, but the shit throws were on arch.  The Oline gave him plenty of time, they were just shit throws...   Ewers, give the time Arch had would have eaten OSU alive

Well, Ohio State wanted to make it a night game, but Texas refused, presumably because they knew that the environment is louder and more hostile at night.

this is one of the best teams Horns will face all year. I think we drop at least one more – probably Georgia or Florida. But as long as we're one of the playoff teams at the end, anything can happen. The offense will improve and the defense looks sick. And we have a punter.

Since we are throwing blame around, where the fuck was the pass rush off the ends? Where was Ant Man?
Also Sarks offense is supposed to be TE heavy, we only saw the TE at end of game wtf?

They scored on a multiple penalty aided long drive and a prayer WR catch. Defense will get no blame from me

he’ll get better… or maybe he won’t… and Caldwell or Lacey steps in. That will work itself out..

but sarks dipshit play calling in crucial situations were unfortunately fucking stuck with.

Pleas don’t think I’m giving him a pass.

but even with the bad play calling they should have easily won this game with better QB play.

sark even dialed up easy throws for him and he missed them.

Exactly. At least getting to this early in the season allows for him, the coaches and the team to work on their weaknesses. And while the game didn't end on a high note, there were some positives towards the end. There were some flashes here and there. Avoiding the shutout was paramount. Yeah, no moral victories and all that, but that would have left a mark.

We peaked as an offense in 2023.  Pair that offense with this years or last years defense and we win it all.

Arch was going to have one of these games.  All QBs do.  Quinn threw like 5 picks vs osu on the road.  Ehlinger had his share of wtf games.  Arch will do some good things but we can’t expect to put the game on his shoulders like we did today.

We were running the ball just fine.  We should have stuck to it, given Arch some easy reads…. If the throws are not tbere, just take off for 2-3 yards.  Take the FGs if they are there.  Limit penalties.  Do that and we probably win this 17-14.   The play calling in the red zone was atrocious.  We were in the red zone 3 times and came away with 0 points.  We had better field positions and out rushed them.  Losing this game is on everyone including the offense.

With that said, this team will improve.  This is probably a 3 loss team, maybe 4.  No one should be pencilling this team into the playoffs.  Offense needs to find an identity before we start talking championships.

Honestly….Ewers wins this game by double digits.

Lulz. When did Ewers ever do that against a team of equal or better caliber? He had the opportunity to do it against Georgia twice last year. Washington, OSU. Failed in all 4 games. And with way better talent than today. Imagine Ewers with the skillset of today, brutal.

Bama.

i am not ready to panic. Sark called a bad game and Arch has some mechanics issues, but..

  • out rushed them 166 to 77
  • out passed them 170 to 126
  • limited them to 54 offensive plays
  • limited the best WR in the nation to 6 catches, 43 yards, and 0 TDs

on the road to a legit top 5 team that may lose only 1 game this season.

yeah, the game was there to be won, but oh well. Next 3 games to get into a rythym before Florida away. We'll be fine

We played the defending MNC team in our season opener. I get the online surly jitters and being upset but Ohio State is the defending champion with a brand new QB too. Both of our defenses are elite imo. This was even way lower scoring than the over/under. We played poorly and our elite defense kept us in this. Sark needs to relinquish play calling. I said it. He’s about as good an OC right now as our former HC Herman. Gimmicks have been figured out. Sucks in red zone.

Arch made shit throws today. Yep, saw em. I also saw he most of the time had zero to throw too. But on short throws and intermediate ones he was off today. Which he was facing one of the best defenses people will face all damn year on his first away game as a starter. We know he can be accurate. He was off today. We weren’t in synch. He will be and we will make the CFP and this idea we have to be undefeated which is way too hard to do now to be MNC is also bullshit. You can lose a game like this and still make the show, we will make it. But sark needs to hang up his play calling duties period, arch will improve and play fine, he will get better and he will hit an amazing stride this year, but. The play calls in big games by Sark who has been here long enough we can see it’s him needs to get an OC.

Crazy.  We could've been down by 1 pt or tied game or winning if Sark didn't suck at red zone play calling.

And we win going away if our QB could hit an easy throw.

sark deserves his fair share of blame. But the QB cost them this game.

I agree. OSU looked pretty meh.  Sark will need to put in a running package(not a sneak) for Manning in the red zone.  we are just going to need to risk him getting hurt at some point.

Well, yeah. That would be stupid. Literally 99% of this board would like to keep him, even if he is a repetitive moron. The man has brought in four  top 4 classes. At some point he'll either get lucky and win us one, or a decade from now CDC or whomever will tell him when it's his time.

It's ballsy to play a TX-OSU as game 1 of the year. A good thing is a good thing - let's get better going forward. This game is in the play-off era, not from the beauty contests of the past. 0 impact on who gets to play in the final and win \m/

Nope.

Well, there’s your problem. You think this is fishing, not football.

Despite the consistent lack of pressure on Sayin, our D was legit. Today was a major test, and they clearly passed it.

How many yards did Niblett cost us today? In a tight game, more than I'd have liked. Put Littleton (eventually maybe Jonah) back there and turn a weakness into a strength.

Isn't Sark supposed to be some QB and offensive guru? That means knowing your QB weaknesses and adjusting as the game goes along. But he never does.

Arch fucking sucked today. Indefensible play and anyone who says otherwise is being a homer. That said there were flashes and I think we collectively improve including at QB. OL especially exceeded my expectations. With this defense and time I think we’re still in it. Curious if more freshman WRs start seeing some run.

Looking these stats, I’d think we won. Man. Hurts.

Except for Turnovers, Time of Possession Penalties, and of course  1-4 in 4th downs. Brutal way to lose. Maybe Field Goals should be  accepted as our go to 4th down play...

ewers would have been sacked four times today with how well tosu covered our wrs and how skittish he was in the pocket. nobody is saying that arch played well, but the assertion that quinn would have led us to a win today is baseless.

God dammit, these morons here are going to act like Cowboys fans, aren't they?

Ewers had his shot at this team. Not in his first game as the season starter but in his final college game with 3 full years of starting experience. And he fumbled it away and let his OSU buddy clown him to a scoop and score TD that put it away.

Enough said. Arch is the QB now and looked terrible in his first game as the season starter. Let's see if he rebounds and gets it right where Ewers spent 3 seasons getting injured then getting it wrong.

Is it me or was Arch's throwing motion awkward today.  Look like everything was coming out side armed and hot.

It was super awkward and didn't look like what he did at all last year. That side arm throw seemed to come whenever he was rushing the throw (usually for no reason).

Sure. He made Quinn look better than he was too.

arch was bad. It wasn’t lack of routes or not giving him easy reads.

arch flat out missed throws. That’s not on the coach.

Were the body-language armchair psychologists out today overanalyzing every 5 second snippet of Arch sitting quietly on the bench between drives?  Or is that reserved only for Ewers?
