Kimmel is a very popular guy in those circles. If he can get axed by the president because he doesn't like his jokes, with no major push back, then we're pretty much done there. Soon anything Trump likes will be off the air.

you mean doesn't like?

Ah yes, all those comedians with hours and hours of sets about the benefits of masks and importance of vaccinating the majority.

Their reality is what they want it to be, so no use discussing irrational narratives.  His view only gathers the credit we give it--tree falling in the woods.  But Adam's basically saying he doesn't give a shit about government sanctioned cancel culture, which makes him a nazi.

while i agree that nextstar and abc are being gutless and not calling the bluff (sinclair is honestly just a piece of shit company) and i am not absolving them from their kowtowing, the fcc chairman made multiple public threats yesterday regarding the revocation of their broadcasting licenses. it's not a "may be the case" situation. it was a clear and direct existential threat to the broadcasting network.

i certainly believe these pussies should have said "do it and we will see you at the supreme court" but their being pussies likewise does not mean you get to obfuscate and distract from the point that it was the government that set the censorship events into motion via abuse of their power. private organizations acting in the best interest of their bottom line is certainly contributing to the ethical decline of our society...but it pales in comparison with a shithead brownshirted sycophant abusing their governmental role in a moment of naked corruption.

So we got media, law, military, universities, arts, medical and scientific communities shackled, and anybody else?  We still thinking we're going to have a free and fair election coming up in midterms and for the presidency in 2028?

I thought about it for about 10 seconds and gave up. I'm sure there is some common theme between what has happened with Kimmel and the pandemic from five years ago.

I tried racking my brain for a comedian who was "cancelled" for being anti-vax or anti-mask. Then I kicked myself for wasting thought on something that Adam Corolla said.

So Disney is talking to Kimmel to try to get him back on the air. I assume they are telling him exactly how cowardly they are and how nice they want him to be. If they come to an agreement I'm certainly not restarting my subscription but I'm sure many will.

I'm using this as an opportunity to trim costs from my life by eliminating money sent to corporate beasts in as many places as possible. Unfortunately I've also had to include contributions to any entity associated with capitulating to this authoritarian regime, which means I've canceled my Burnt Ends and Texas One Fund recurring payments as well as deciding no further contributions to UT academics will happen either.

So far with just media and recurring UT-related cancellations I'm at about $3500 per year saved. Imagine getting paid to have a clearer conscience, that's a win-win.

They're only getting money off of ads if they can meter them. In a digital age where your cable company knows exactly what the fuck you're watching at any one time, the metrics show one person watching, not the other thousand people watching the stream. And if it's from OTA then they don't even have that metric.
Your phone knows if you happen to mention toasters to your wife, and shows you toaster ads for the next 2 weeks. Any ad you see or hear is being tracked.

What does this mean? UT or Texas Football has run afoul and is licking a boot on this issue or is there a specific thing I'm missing or are you talking about just generally UT is going along to get along and go with the flow and trying to not upset the applecart which is morally wrong?

UT in general has already started well down the path of appeasing the authoritarian right. Plus, of course, it's a state institution so it's unavoidable in many respects.

Are the media oligarchs finally fed up and tired of being part of the virtue signaling culture wars? There is zero chance Rafi says this unless he was told to by certain people.

I've never sent money to UT other than paying for season tickets and tuition for myself and two of our kids.  UT is rich as shit.  My support goes to my undergrad institution, not UT.

Understood. Sucks immamac/BurntEnds had to be collateral damage to the general UT machine having to, as you said, go with the flow on a lot of things as a state institution.

Is this just with toasters or other stuff?
