As a parent of 8, 10 and 12 year olds, I think its damn near impossible that they haven't already had Covid.  Anecdotal, but I would believe 80% of kids under 12 have been infected.

I doubt it's that high but I would't be surprised to find that a bunch of kids currently have COVID antibodies and never exhibited a single symptom while they had it. I've gotten a half-dozen or more emails from my son's school (he's unvaxxed thanks to my cunt ex) of kids in one of his classes testing positive. They're doing NOTHING to stop the spread in our district. A couple of times he's said the kid in question sat right next to him or worked with him on a project. Unfortunately, there is not a chance in the world he will willingly give blood for an antibody test to find out. (He was incredibly ill back around Xmas 2019 and both strep and flu tests were negative. I've always wondered if COVID was in the USA sooner than we thought.)

Wow, a unbelievable tragedy. Hey Trump, FUCK OFF.

So 2% of the population gone.. remember the  HBO series 'The Leftovers'?

Main plot point being the "Sudden Departure", a global event that resulted in 2% of the world's population disappearing.

great series by the way.

The Leftovers season 3 cements its status as life-changing television | The Independent | The Independent

from wikipedia: Following that event, mainstream religions declined, and a number of cults emerged, most notably the Guilty Remnant, a group of white-clothed, chain-smoking nihilists, and a cult led by Holy Wayne, a man who views himself as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Seems a little on the nose, IMO

Seems optimistic to me.  And I'm kinda done with optimism with regard to this pandemic.

I don’t recall Gottlieb being a sunshine pumper. As infectious as delta is and as we are almost 2 years since the first case in the US with 55% fully vaccinated I would say that’s not an unrealistic estimate

Can I be a contrarian and ask where are the covid outbreaks associated with football games?  We're two weeks into football season and most of the stadiums have been full.  Shouldn't we have been seeing mass outbreaks at this point?

My hypothesis is and has been that we won't see material spikes, because they are open-air events.  I was at the game in Arkiesaw, and only wore my mask in indoor spaces.  Outside, it was open air with a breeze, just didn't see it as high risk.  I'm sure there were some virus particles floating around, but not in any direct concentration.

Now, AFTER the game, when I had some drinks of wretched, self-loathing despair in a sad, sad Applebees?  Yeah, could have been some risk there.

Wondering this as well actually.  Seems like maybe these haven’t had the impact, or is it just that no contact  tracing means no way to know?

I think mostly this. Most people will get at worst allergy / head cold symptoms. Apparently very little anosmia with Delta so if you’ve got no fever no loss of smell/taste and no known close contact w someone w covid, you’re not likely to get tested

Purebloods.  Imagine that.

“From now on, I refuse to be referred to as ‘unvaccinated,’ ” a conservative TikToker declared. “I want everyone to now call me Pureblood.”

https://www.vice.com/en/article/7kvywd/unvaccinated-tiktok-purebloods-covid

Quote

The term “pureblood” doesn’t exactly have the best connotations. But now unvaccinated people on TikTok are, er, trying to reclaim the term as a way to tout their “superiority” over their jabbed fellow citizens.

The phrase was popularized by J.K. Rowling’s villain Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series as a way to distinguish between those with “pure” wizard ancestry and everyone else, drawing parallels with the Nazi doctrine of the “master race.” As a concept, basically, it’s been used to justify some of the worst crimes against humanity in history.

Quote

The new “pureblood” trend seems to have gotten a big boost from conservative TikToker influencer Lyndsey Marie in a post shared last week replete with hashtags like #harrypotter, #pureblood, and #unvaccinated.

“From now on, I refuse to be referred to as ‘unvaccinated,’” she declared. “I want everyone to now call me Pureblood.”

Quote

The video has since racked up nearly 250,000 views and Lyndsey Marie is now promising her followers that a line of “pureblood” merch (which will feature an image of a lion and the text, “PUREBLOOD; Unmasked, Unvaxxed, Unafraid.”)

Meanwhile, the term has inspired scores of other un-vaxxed social media users to make their own videos.

Spoiler

Some have incorporated zombie-like filters, others have embellished their captions with the droplet of blood emoji, and one user, Leeannstar23, took the analogy a step further.

“In like five, ten years, maybe less, all the people who are unvaccinated —we’re gonna be hunted,” she warns. “It’s gonna be like ‘Resident Evil.’ We’re gonna be the antidote, because everyone else is fucked, and we’re gonna be the only ones with pure blood.”

On TikTok, the #pureblood hashtag may struggle to set itself apart from posts by Draco Malfoy stan accounts and others within that platform’s robust community of Harry Potter fans. But the term and hashtag has already migrated over onto other platforms, like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and gone international.

This surge in unvaccinated pride comes as several high-profile anti-vaxxers have recently died from COVID-19.

The recent death of a right-wing radio host in Colorado, who urged his listeners to boycott the COVID-19 jab, was publicized this week. Another right-wing shock jock in Florida, who dubbed himself “Mr. Anti Vax,” died a few weeks ago. A prominent anti-vaccine activist from Chicago also recently died from COVID-19 after she and a crowd of QAnon followers harassed the hospital to treat her with a bogus covid cure.

Those deaths, and the overflowing hospitals in states with low vaccination rates, serve as a grim reminder that, unlike the Harry Potter universe, the threat of COVID-19 is very, very real.

A friend of mine just said her father died from Covid last night.  He was fully vaccinated but was probably in his 70s maybe even over 80.  Not sure if he had underlying conditions but I would be so pissed if one of my parents died from Covid and I would probably blame the unvaccinated idiots for allowing the virus to mutate and continue to spread.

The average age of a fully vaccinated in hospital covid death is 78. Don't be old.

Either this poll is not representative of the cohorts or a lot of these folks are lying. The entire adult population is at 56%.

Pastafarians aren't vaccinated. Also, your numbers don't agree with this:

It's at least one dose.  The person who tweeted that should have specified that.

Wife's former coworker, an aging Cajun (no, really) who can't reason her way out of a 4-way stop, refused to get vaccinated.  Last week, she went off radar.  Didn't show up to work, nobody could find her, the clues were unmistakable.  Eventually her daughter called in to say she had covid, but no other information.  Last night, cardiac arrest.  Still alive, because she was in the ICU when it happened, but talk about fuck around and find out.  Way to go, Myra.

Myra's dead.

Hits close to home. I just heard a childhood friend is in the hospital in Beaumont on a vent and not expected to make it. 4 kids, including 8 year old twin girls. Trumper, evangelical, anti-vaxer.

FIF accuracy.  The GQP is the most socialist party this nation has ever seen.  They privatize their choices, and socialize the consequences of their choices (and, I mean, we can't kick them out of the hospitals that they can't pay for -- that would be DEATH PANELS!!!)

Well, Myra.....seems like you made a bad choice.  I wish I could have more compassion about it.  I really do.  But I'm all out of compassion for a fucking relentless, rolling wave of moronity -- lemmings, plunging one after the other to their death over the cliff.  We've stood in their way yelling "STOP!  DON'T DO THAT!  YOU'LL DIE!"  And their response is to run to the cliff even faster, the only thing they even pause for is to stop and attack those of us who have the gall to tell them not to kill themselves and those around them.  Enough.  Let's get out of the way, and let them finish this their way....

I seem to recall a Republican economist, Kudlow maybe? saying that child labor wasn't such a bad thing....

I wasn't close to her.  My wife always got a kick out of her, she was an eccentric cajun who always butchered the language -- she had "erotic (not erratic) periods", etc. -- but even they weren't buddies.  It's still sad.  She got hoodwinked by friends and family, and didn't have the curiosity or perhaps even the intellect to sort through the chaff.  That's the real downside of the misinformation -- too many people just fall into line with those they are close to, "because".

I get you; I've been a shoulder/venting board for a friend for whom this is just breaking apart the extended family. Friend is vaxxed as is everyone in her immediate family but aunts/uncles and cousins are in varying degrees of not gunna do it to downright QAnon and sure enough, the virus found a host. They called and called, wanting her to "do something" because a family member was near death, no hospital beds available and just lashing out in a vortex of pain and anger and grief looking for someone, anyone to blame. They finally found a hospital that would take the afflicted, but it's not looking great and I've been trying to counsel my friend to just not answer the phone for awhile because at some point you just have to break the dysfunction and stop.
