This is the first thing he’s said that I agree with. We don’t need any additional dipshit MAGA morons moving to Texas to avoid their new Democratic Socialist Mayor.

They might need to weigh avoiding Mamdani against being governed by hateful, attention starved, right wing lunatic.

Checks notes - a lot of the people moving to Texas from places like California and New York are hateful, attention starved, right wing lunatics.

Wait, so he is trying to FAFO with people who voted for Mamdani?  Lol. What a jackass.

With all the bs going around these days, the state tariff is quite literally the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s so fucking dumb I don’t even care to nor should I have to explain every point of the ridiculousness. Even if he was joking that might make it stupider. Please, I’m begging, make this stop already!!!!!

First off, it's a lame, crippled attempt at right wing humor.

Second, as noted on popehat, it makes a lot more sense when you view people as chattel property.

Thought that was a parody account at first glance...but nope that's really our dipshit Governor...

Would be kinda humorous if Mamdani offered to bus any NYC MAGA to Texas only to be fake tariffed by hot wheels tho..

The people that vote for Mamdani aren't the ones coming to TX.

Between my 2 daughters, they have over 20 friends and friends of friends (about half went to UTexas) who moved from Austin to NYC after college. Most of them would never move back to Texas. All of them will vote for Mamdani.

Right, but I think hot wheels is trying to insinuate that they are going to be so upset with the "socialism" if he's elected that they will want to move to Texas.  He's a moron.

Colorado should "tariff" the vacationing Texans who voted for Abbott and Trump.

Why are right wingers so pathetically unfunny?

Because a big part of humor is relating to others. They can't relate to people that aren't exactly like themselves already, they're terrified of them.

Because humor requires wit and nuance.  Characteristics that are lacking in morons.

Humor works when you’re punching up or poking fun at yourself. You can also make fun of people you respect or like, but that comes with wit and nuance.

Same old bullshit about ending property tax with capped values across the board (which is actually a tax increase on homeowners) and eliminating isd prop taxes with nary a mention of what would replace it. Or maybe they just shutter the public school system entirely.

I think that last bit is the real goal. Or at least leave it a husk that only produces worker drones who won’t ask hard questions.

Abbott announced he’s running for a fourth term (oh goodie). This picture is real.

Adam McKay should take on a dark comedy of a reverse redemption story, where a man gets crippled in an accident, gets his, then becomes a bigger piece of shit somehow, burning bridges behind him.

In fact, it could be juxtaposed with FDR, who was a snobby New Englander with unbridled ambition. Then after being crippled with Polio he led the world thru two great crises, working with his social justice warrior wife to help the many unfortunate.

Abbott's running again and he said he wants to eliminate property taxes, which is exactly what he campaigned on in 2019.  Serious. We have the tweets.

I mean, he's only had 10 years to do it.

how the hell does he propose Texas communities and schools be funded?

He says a consumption tax. At least that's what he said in 2019.  That way, he said, YOU get to decide how much you give to the government.

Isn't it explicitly forbidden by the constitution?

Abbott on radio this morning talking his prop tax plan to eliminate school tax for homesteads, says the state will pick up that tab. Sucks to your asmar renters. That plus the outrageous lies to support his plan is just so gotdam stupid.

when asked if he can get the lege to go along he says he’ll do what he did with the vouchers and bully it through at the ballot box.

Why even HAVE education?? It's just gonna """undermine parental control""", like they said in their old party platform. Can't have any critical thinking skills, nosireebob.

I’m sure the ppl who bitched and pointed pitchforks about Austin having too much control over schools will be even more enraged. 100% certain!

So it will fall more on the poor. We just love our regressive taxes here in Texas.

The other aspects he’s pursuing are 5 year reappraisal cycles, tax rate increases beyond pop growth + inflation requiring 2/3rd voter approval, and rollback tax rate elections only needing 15% of the citizenry to petition for it.

It is kind of interesting to see him acting as if he expects the Republicans to lose power. I wish I were as confident of this as he is.

It will be very difficult to undo it. Probably a constitutional convention.

That 5 year reappraisal cycle idea would actually fuck most homeowners because people are stupid and have no foresight so 5 years of actual tax bill increase hitting all at once will shock them.

Let's cripple schools and local governments at the same time. That sounds like a great plan.

Would your 10% homestead cap still apply or would the cap be 50%?  If it stays 10%, that fucks every taxing entity's budget and if it's 50%, that fucks the homeowner.  I'm sure they'll figure out a way to fuck both.

~61% would be the correct amount for 5 years at 10% but great question. I assume the plan would be to fuck public school districts.
