We also drove to San Antonio, Houston & Dallas for the occasional concert as needed. Fun times. I'm still above ground, I graduated, and my GPA is NOYB. A few of my bona fides ... I did go the the Dixie Chicken once ~ '76, where we schooled some aggies on playing Foosball while we discussed Earl Campbell >> George Woodard. Umn no, there was no live entertainment in CS. Yeah I really wished I would have saved my tix. While I NEVER INVITED ANY AGGIES (not cool enough) in high school all I did was buy 10 tix, sell 8 tix to my friends. Saw a LOT of those shows. The ZZ Top Jeppenson Stadium show stood out as I had that ticket... then we took the family vacation that week. Sorry to disrupt the joke show that is A&M. My uncle (RIP) played bass for a young SRV back during this time. He also played with Will and Charlie Sexton as well and was a regular at the Continental Club on S. Congress. He is mentioned in SRV's autobiography as "a hippie from South Oak Cliff" in his book. My mother has a mood ring SRV gave to Alex that he wore until he passed. I keep asking for it, and I keep getting denied. December 21, 20223 yr I had no clue so many surly olds were so close to the life expectancy age for a male in Texas (which is 75 btw)

As for music, you haven't really experienced musical sounds until you've heard Anchors Aweigh played on 16 half-inch tape drives, a 6400-lines per minute printer, and a 600 cards per minute card reader. Trust me.

Now THIS was a concert to remember… (pardon the Four Roses stain) My ticket montage was a backdrop I made for a flyer for my sons HS Talent Show. Here are the other tickets I have. (The montage photo's are the little pile to the right) I also saw Chuck Berry. Pls notice Row AAA, front row. He stepped on my right hand. ("Are you in show business? Well, then, why don't you get your friggin' feet off the stage?" - Lili Von Shtupp) One of my most prized possessions. I did not go to the Texas Pop Festival (I was 13). I did see ~ 3/4 of the band that played. I never saw Hendrix or John Lennon, but saw most of the Real Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. I have many fond memories of the bands I saw, and/or remember seeing. Being a freshman w/ Earl and living in Jester East and watching Texas Football are my favorite memories.

Did see U2 at Club Foot when I was working there in 81, the at Opera House in '82 to flex... 😉 Clash at Austin Auditorium when it was basically a military storage like facility where UT would host the frat's fight nights. Saw Tom Petty at Opera house after winning tix from KLBJ in Fall of '79. I went to tons of concerts in HS but Austin was a lot smaller than Houston and the ability to see quality in a small venue is a jewel that should never be passed up. Music is another reason I could never, ever, ever consider attending A&M. How would you like to be a Ag Grad and spend the rest of your life seeing your Alma mater reinforce it's reputation for stupidity again, and again, and again. Every time they get optimistic, the cruel reality of Agginess always rules the day. Hell they even years ago claimed to be able to turn salt water into gold... If you can believe that fucking stupidity. Ags are never to be hated. They are to be mocked, with likely many episodes of repeated head shaking and laughter... That's is what Aggies are all about, something to giggle at! *aggy
December 21, 20223 yr Take a trip with me back to that beautiful day in September when Aggy played Appalachian State. There are so many glorious moments to relive: Aggy seeing the best recruiting class ever in action Hanes King - the human turnover machine Jumbo waddling onto the field to scream at his player Numbed expressions in the stands Announcers talking at the end about how Appalachian State dominated the game, lol
