Every QB needs to be adapt at reading defenses. What makes you think Murphy is incapable of doing so and behind Arch is this category?  Quinn and Arch aren't exactly dual threat QBs and I don't think Sark is recruiting QBs based on the running ability.  In the end Arch will be the starter next year but because that the deal just like with Quinn.  Arch could be better than Murphy next fall or worse but he will be the starter no matter what.

Of course every QB needs to read a defense, but being a pure pocket passer gives you less margin for error. I never said Sark is recruiting based on athleticism. My belief the Arch will start is that he comes in further along. Murphy struggled with accuracy and interceptions in high school. He has had injury issues. It’s possible the Murphy develops at a time line faster, than Arch. It just is not very likely

I don't think Arch stays if he's beaten out by Murphy in 2024, but we can always hope that CTJ is as accurate as he was with Blue.

Blue declared his portal entry after one semester on campus. Somewhere between that moment and actually filing the paperwork, that flake got a new religion and turned his life around. I don’t know what happened, but it’s unlikely to be replicable.

Some guy on IT says Marshall beat the crap out of a guy at a team event. Good character eval from Jimbo.

Friends of mine that know their shit front to back in recruiting said that this guy was a nightmare on every level and have been proven accurate. They’re currently saying the same thing about a UT commit. I’m guessing that changes soon.

Always have to watch those punters.

Yeah, but they let their son play at ou.

I know his brothers-in-law and they're definitely good people.

I still can't believe Hays played FBS football anywhere. Kid was skinny as a rake his whole life.

But yeah, the whole family and extended family are lovely. I was more joking around than anything - I remember my dad used to give Randy a hard time about handing the ball to Earl and getting out of the way.

SIAP... Any update on UH offensive linemen?

Heard a report  that since their offensive line coach was dismissed, they have lost 7 OL players to the portal...

They lost a starting Guard to Mizzou and backup Tackle to Cal over the weekend. Heard their star Tackle got money whipped to stay.  Haven’t heard anything else. Their old OL coach is at Mizzou now.

Holy shit that is grim. They are going to get steamrolled next season.

I mean that roster is missing a lot of players that they signed and picked up in the portal. The Tech QB that beat us is going to be their starter, and he's not listed on the depth chart.

Apologies, I should have been clearer. I was referring specifically to o-line.

Is Casey smelling his finger?

Super common now. Here's another recent example:

It's a real "old man yells at cloud" moment for me, but I cannot stand this trend. Smelling your own finger has certain connotations and I'm not sure what they have to do with football.

I'd never seen Thompson's commitment tweet. Using the Cotton Bowl and Golden Hat as a backdrop is, uh, a choice.

I hope we absolutely embarrass those fucks on their home field. Be careful what you wish for Fertitta.

Honest reaction to reading about this guy. I know Fresno State can play some good football.

1. Wow, this sounds like a rags to riches story. Clearly we will learn he was under-rated.

2. Even better. Nobody thought much of this. He really showed them. Well done!

3. Huh? I know 5 of 8 is a respectable completion percentage, but this all sounds a little sad now.

UH got Tulane's OL coach, who also coached at Texas under both Brown and Strong. Tulane's OL was really good last year. Brandon Jones was nothing special, so him going to Missouri is surprising.

Thanks.  Just saw this in Chronicle...

Offensive line shuffle

The offseason has featured a lot of departures within the UH offensive line room. To start, the program parted ways with Brandon Jones, who had been the Cougars’ offensive line coach since 2019. Holgorsen brought in Eman Naghavi, who spent last season at Tulane, to replace Jones as Houston's running game coordinator/offensive line coach.

“I’ve had my eye on him for a couple years,” Holgorsen said about Naghavi. “He’s a voice in that room that’s going to be listened to.”

Along with the coaching change, Houston lost two starters from a season ago to the transfer portal: Cam’Ron Johnson and Lance Robinson. Johnson started all 13 games in 2022 at left guard, allowing just one sack on his way to being named first-team All-AAC. Robinson played in all 13 games last season, making 11 starts at right tackle.

Patrick Paul, the anchor of the Cougars’ offensive line, is back at left tackle along with center Jack Freeman. Tyler Johnson, who made 10 starts at right guard last season after transferring in from Texas, will likely be a starter upfront at one of the guard positions. Senior Reuben Unije, who has played in 15 games in three years at UH, is back and could replace Robinson as the starting right tackle. Tank Jenkins, who played 338 snaps a season ago, also returned.

The Cougars added Max Banes—who started his collegiate career at UH before spending the past season at Akron—along with Shamar Hobdy-Lee during the offseason.

What does “I’m able to live and play ball how I want to.” even mean?

Was he living a lie in Austin?

How was he playing ball vs how he wanted to play ball?

This is confusing.

(The smelling your fingers thing is not confusing.)

After watching OU eat a big mouthful of 49-0 and deciding himself to skip spring football, he realized that while he was assigned Longhorn at matriculation, he identifies as a Sooner.

Most people struggle with the repressive ideologies of Austin and seek a more welcoming atmosphere in places like Norman.

You can take the kid out of Spearman, you can’t take Spearman out of the kid.

Could also be interpreted as “their receiver room sucks enough I can run track in the spring and still play lol”
