Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

The problem with all of us, media and fans, is we saw the OU performance and didn't take it for what it truly was, a win against the worst defense we would play all season. It was not indicative of what Ewers was. It was indicative of how bad OU was. Even in that game, Ewers was not accurate, outside of the TD pass to Sanders. A lot of those plays was our RBs and WRs adjusting to make a great play. Yet we're all so desirous of us being good again and having "the answer at QB" that we all overrated what Ewers did. That was the outlier. The mean is what we've seen the rest of the season. And that's normal with a freshman QB.

Quite a different post than GG 2.0

Exactly - 4th string (dead last) on the depth chart with 3 other freshmen. And Day not exactly sad to see him go. Day knew what was up.

"He was in a very unique situation, for sure. ... We certainly wish him nothing but the best of luck."

Well, he also showed up like a week before fall camp started. But let’s not get lost in the details.

Lot of hair fashionistas in here. Who the fuck cares? Half of you old fucks are bald.

when you dress and style yourself as if you don't take yourself seriously, at all, and then you go out and perform horribly week after week after week, it's a really bad look. the ugly beard and mullett just makes him look like he doesn't care, as does his play on saturdays/form when throwing the football. worry less about having a signature look, and worry more about working hard to hopefully one day approach being a competent Texas QB.

I think he’s much less worried about it than this board apparently. He’s just an 18 year old. It doesn’t improve or worsen his play so who gives a shit? God damn nam vets yelling at long hairs in here.

He’s gotta fix the mechanics. That would solve 90% if his problems. Ewers has the Jesus tendon in his arm that so few are born with, but unfortunately it seems like he’s relied on it for far too long and it’s coming back to bite him in the ass. I still think he’s one of the best prospects to come to the forty, and he’s got a real shot at having a great career here and in the nfl. He needs to take a long hard look in mirror and figure out if he wants to live up to the hype or not.

If he puts in the work, then this thread will be a fun thing to look back on. But right now he looks lazy, has no sense of urgency, and is folding under the pressure. Not great bob, not great.

Before tonight Ewers was 56 of 120 rated QBs.  Casey Thompson was #44.

Let’s not even start down the rabbit hole of if Thompson stayed.   We probably don’t lose the games Card played when Ewers was out realistically.

There's absolutely no way he would have ever played a game there. He was not beating out anyone. Ohio St churns out to level talent every year. Ewers was just another guy who rode the pine there. To us, he is our savior, even though he hadn't taken a snap at any level in 2 years. That tells you the different levels our program is vs theirs. And how how desperate we are.

Ryan Day saw all of this. He had Quinn dead last on the depth chart even though last year all the other QBs were freshmen - so he wasn't going against seasoned QBs. He was a little late getting to campus, but if he was supposed to be the best QB prospect since VY, he would not have been dead last on the depth chart.

QUARTERBACK Depth Chart

C.J. Stroud (6-3, 218, R-Fr.)

Kyle McCord (6-3, 215, Fr.)

Jack Miller (6-3, 215, R-Fr.)

Quinn Ewers (Fr)

Also, reading between the lines, he was being nice by saying he wasn't even close to being ready.

“We’re trying to get him as much information as we can, but there’s a lot of catching up to be done there."

Didn't seem to be too upset to lose him, too - kind of an odd quote TBH:

"He was in a very unique situation, for sure. ... We certainly wish him nothing but the best of luck."

Yep. And they won't miss him at all. Stroud is light years ahead of him. Ewers was never going to play a down for Ohio St. Their roster is too deep.

Great career here? He's done once Manning gets here. He will be looking at his 3rd college team sooner than later. Unless he makes drastic improvements. There's a reason he was dead last on the Ohio St depth chart full of freshman. He's another entitled rich dork who never faced one ounce of adversity in his life and has no idea to adjust. Coasts through life where it's extremely easy, on and off the field. And he's still making plenty of NIL money so off the field is still a breeze. But this dude is not ready for the big stage of P5 football. This isn't high school anymore. He has no fight and heart. Sam puts him to shame in that regard. Hell even Case McCoy did when he went and beat aggy in 2011. This dude is a front runner. He looks great in games like OU where there is zero pressure and ups and downs. But since that game? The shine wore off and he has no clue how to win these close games.

The reason he was dead last was bc he showed up a week before the fucking season started. He was supposed to be a senior in high school, not on a college roster. But yeah, I believe a kid with his talent shouldn’t be tossed to the side after we’ve seen what he can do when he puts it all together. Like I said, he’s gotta put the work in after going through his sports life on talent alone. That shit don’t fly in college, but it’s up to him to figure that out.

Why do idiots and aggys (synonymous I know) keep spouting this like it means anything?

Quinn needs to portal

I have it on very good authority that Card is going to portal after this season.

Crazy thing is, he’ll probably be a damn good quarterback next year, and might have been this year as he had more playing time.

Maybe we should get to the point that we don’t have to rely on freshman quarterbacks as our QB1.

Exactly correct in every regard.

Tomorrow, if and when someone tells him “you suck shit through a straw, and it’ll take an incredible amount of work and effort for you to ever amount to a serviceable scout team QB”….it’ll be the first time he’s ever heard it

These posts about him being a cocky shithead when he’s also the least emotional QB I’ve ever seen are something. Kid is like a robot. If he was some mulleted redneck from odessa   with exactly the same demeanor nobody would say this. He just happens to be from SLC and make millions of dollars.

You’re an idiot.  I’m as disappointed as anyone about how poorly Ewers is playing but why is it notable to say he is “entitled rich” whatever the fuck that means.  Listen if you are going to lecture us on the virtues of some fat skank that you probably have firsthand knowledge of that’s one thing but otherwise shut the fuck up.

He's a 19? year old kid, you should all be ashamed of yourselves,  the light will come on.

Did he forego his NIL because he would be a below average freshman? College football is professional now. If you take the money, criticism is fair game. No more hiding behind “he’s a student athlete who bleeds orange and is only a freshman!” Plenty of freshmen QBs don’t suck ass every time they get popped in the mouth.

God i wish our fresman qb played like freshman caleb williams

Dudes like Williams and Bruce young is you can see it in their eyes how bad they want it. Hell Caleb cried when they lost to Utah. They look like they put in the work in the off season. They have the IT factor. I really thought Quinn was the one. But he’s busted pretty hard so far I know he’s a freshman and all that but usually the real good ones don’t look this bad. Can he turn it around this off season and put in the work? We will see. We don’t need him to be the one, though. We just need him to be decent. We were 5-7 last year. I know we are all upset because all these games were close and we should’ve won them but we are improved. If we go 8-4 I’ll be happy. Now anything below that would be an absolute disappointment.

We are debating card and Ewers. Card would’ve self sacked while Ewers just chunks it away. Idk what’s worse. I guess card would at least ran with it.

He looked like a 5 star in his 1st few games. What happened? He got Longhorned? What other top college QBs had an upward then downward trajectory the 1st year then bounced back?

this isn’t said enough.  he did look like everything we hoped he would be for a brief shining moment and then he looked like shit.  maybe he is playing hurt or something.

I still think he’s gonna be great next year.
