Law enforcement are searching for the suspects wanted in an overnight homicide in Jefferson County as well as a series of incidents where the suspects threw rocks at vehicles.

Around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, 20-year-old Alexa Bartell, of Arvada, was driving northbound near the 10600 block of Indiana Street. The suspects, believed to be in a vehicle or possibly on the side of the road, threw a large rock at Bartell's vehicle. That rock struck and killed her.

Bartell was on the phone talking to a friend when she was struck and the phone went silent. Her friend tracked Bartell's phone and drove to the location on Indiana Street where she found her fatally wounded inside her car, which had gone off the roadway and into a field.

Jacki Kelley a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said, "The friend, literally drove to the location where it says Alexa's phone was. That is where she found Alexa's car down in the field."

Just hours after announcing that they were looking for a light-colored 4-door 2003-2005 Dodge Ram, investigators confirmed that they located the truck and its owner, and they were both found not to be connected to Bartell's death or the ongoing investigation.

Tire tracks show where the car left the road. An evidence marker was placed next to a rock. "These rocks are found inside the victim's vehicles after coming through the windshields," Kelley said.

Kelley called it a serious crime: "This is absolutely devastating. They lost their daughter. I can tell you Jefferson County has put a lot of resources into this."

Bartell's death is believed to be linked to several other incidents in the area, including:

10:04 p.m. Wednesday – Westminster - 100th Ave. & Simms St. – rock through windshield – driver not injured

10:36 p.m. Wednesday – Boulder County - McCaslin Blvd & S. Indiana St. (entrance to Rock Creek neighborhood) rock through windshield – minor injuries to driver

10:37 p.m. Wednesday – Boulder County – McCaslin Blvd & S. Indiana St. (entrance to Rock Creek neighborhood) - rock vs.Toyota 4-Runner – body damage to vehicle, driver not injured

10:45 p.m. Wedneday – Jefferson County – 10600 block of Indiana St. – rock through windshield of yellow Chevy Spark – homicide

April 20 at 12:24 a.m. Thursday – Arvada - Hwy 93 at Hwy 72 – rock through windshield – minor injuries to driver

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office investigators are working with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Arvada Police and Westminster Police to gather information. They believe there could be more victims.

Additional Information from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office:

Investigators need the public's help identifying and locating the suspects involved in these crimes. If you were in any of these areas and witnessed anything related to the suspect vehicle or the suspects who may have been inside, call the JCSO tip line at 303-271-5612. No piece of information is insignificant. If you have home security or dash cameras that may have caught the vehicle driving by, we want to hear from you.

so now I don't just need to get body armor (to protect me from random shooting), but I need to uparmor my vehicles

T&P the the friends & family of the rock thrower victims; and I await a stringent debate about having back ground checks and a waiting period to pick up rocks.
(btw - is TxTow still in prison?)

There was a homeless fuckstick pulling this same shit on Anderson Ln near Mopac a year or so back.   Took out quite a few windshields and sunroofs. He injured a few people, including a teenage girl, but no one was killed that I know of.  And of course, there was TxTow.

Reading the story above, my mind immediately assumes deadbeat teens, but the two local stories above were adults.   Regardless of age, that kind of reckless disregard for human life should result in as strict a penalty as premeditated murder, IMO.

EDIT TO ADD: I don't believe the cops ever did anything about the homeless asshole.  Some citizens confronted him and he threatened them with a knife (or maybe it was a machete).   APD!  APD!  APD!

C'mon, APD just doesn't have the resources, although I did see 8 motorcycle cops escorting a tour bus down the I-35 frontage road at 7th Street during rush hour a few afternoons back.

There is a fairly young homeless couple on Anderson Ln. that throws rocks through cars and building windows - The girl has green hair so you all might notice her when going to Enchiladas y Mas or other businesses in the area.

The rock perpetrator obviously has been brainwashed by rock lyrics.  And by the video game 'Paunch' (my nephew told me about it, you literally throw rocks at fat people).

I wonder if people in Colorado worried about the availability of boulders in Boulder are met with resistance to rock throwing laws with, "Yeah, well what about Austin?"

What the actual fuck am I being referenced for here?

I assumed it was for the physics involved in successful rock throwing at cars. Weight of the rock, trajectory requirements, timing, thickness of windshield, etc. You know, child's play for a rocket surgeon.

3 teens arrested in death of a 20-year-old woman who was killed when a large rock was thrown at her car

CNN —

Three teens were arrested in the death of a 20-year-old Colorado woman who was killed when a large rock thrown at her car went through the windshield, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.

Alexa Bartell was killed April 19 after a series of cars were hit by rocks that night, Jacki Kelley, public information officer with the sheriff’s office, said in a news conference Wednesday. Authorities believe at least seven people were hit by the rocks.

Investigators arrested the three teens in connection with her death Tuesday night, the sheriff’s office said.

The three suspects, Joseph Koenig, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak – all 18 – face charges of first-degree murder, extreme indifference, the sheriff’s office said in its release. The three were interviewed Tuesday night, according to Kelley.

Any additional charges will be filed in Colorado’s First Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the release said. The three will remain in custody until their first expected court appearance Thursday where they will be “advised of the charges against them,” Kelley said.

CNN has reached out to the public defender’s office to see if the three have attorneys assigned to them.

The arrests came as a result of “cellphone device forensics,” Kelley said Wednesday. Authorities told Bartell’s family about the arrests in the middle of the night, Kelley added.

“They’re just so grateful,” Kelley said while talking about Bartell’s family. “They’re still suffering from the greatest loss possible, but this is the beginning of the journey that they’ll be on next.

“This case touched a lot of people deeply. This was a beautiful young woman with her whole life in front of her who was simply driving home,” Kelley said.

A large dirt hole, 3 potato sacks, a bunch of stones, and an angry mob.

Much cheaper than incarceration.

honestly surprised they caught them in less than a week.  It took like 4 incidents and several weeks before @TxTow got caught.

In this case it sounds like the assholes were driving 1 direction and chucked the rock into the opposite flow of traffic.

Thats really tough to catch that exact moment on highway traffic cams... really shocked they were found so quick, unless the folks behind them saw the rock get tossed and marked down the license plate?

Also, it wasn't weeks for TxTow.  Wasn't it the better part of a year?
