So in my neighborhood, which is pretty consistently 2/3rds Democratic, I've seen two Trump signs.  One is a handwritten sign of crazy.  The other is a campaign sign just next to the old beater pick-up truck in the driveway that is really very incongruous with the neighborhood.

A quick thought on that Trump sign, if you haven't seen those campaign signs.  It's blue, for one.  And that strikes me as odd in a world in which red has become the universally understood color of the GQP.  But for another, the font size is very small.  Shockingly small for something that says "TRUMP" on it.  It almost implies a certain shame--"I'm putting out this yard sign, but I don't actually want to advertise that I'm voting for that guy."

There are houses in the neighborhood that always have their GQP campaign signs out, no matter whether the candidate at the top of the ticket is Trump or Cruz or Abbott, but which don't have anything right now.  Maybe it's just too early.  I don't know.

And I think all this is meaningless.  But it's interesting to observe on an otherwise-slow Wednesday.

I saw a blue dotard sign that looked like it was half the size of a normal sign.

You mean like folded in half along the horizontal bias to hide the Pence?

I saw a nice big sign on fence posts a couple of weeks ago driving in Republic, WA and they had carefully painted blue over the Pence lettering so it was Trump on top and a ton of empty blue space below.

A neighbor had a Trump/Pence sign that they had covered up the Pence.

They were out in their yard the other day while I was walking the dogs and asked "Wait, Pence isn't running with Trump against Biden?   How come?"

I got a nasty look and kind of a snide "Are you serious?"

I replied with "Yeah, I don't pay attention to politics at all."

The retort was "Trump isn't even running against Biden.  You didn't know that?"

Me... "Nope, like I said, I just don't pay attention" and proceeded on my way.

I'm pretty sure my neighbor was incredibly pissed off.

Does Trump know 82 words?

Almost certainly. If Trump is 1/2 as smart as a dog, or a baby, that still gets him up above 80:

(BBCMaestro)"In his seminal 1994 work, The Intelligence of Dogs, he writes that a typical dog can learn around 165 words, and some super-bright sparks can pick up closer to 250 human terms. As an interesting comparison, a typical two-year-old (human) child knows about 200 words. Like a human baby, your dog learns by association."

Also, though his speech is garbled, it is generally recognizable as English. Long ago a polyglot told me that you could "speak" a language by learning only 80 words, so long as they were the right 80 words. The fact that Trump can manage a 3rd grade level of English makes me think he's got more than 82.

(teachsafeschools.org) "But by this point, they are 3000 to 4000 words behind more advantaged children. Children in third grade at the lowest 25% have an average of 2500 root words, while those in the highest 25% have an average of 6000 to 8000 words."

I have a hard time believing Trump could actively use thousands of words. I think it likely that he has a solid 100 that he pulls up and uses constantly, bigly, and then a vast stew of semi-familiar words he would never be able to use properly himself. We haven't touched on this, but I bet Trump, like any other mammal, draws in lots of information from the tone of voice he is addressed in, or from familiar gestures that evoke comforting memories. Perhaps, like an ant, he gets many of his social cues from following scent trails.

Steelers and Eggles fans are DEMS.

It's the Penn St, Lockhaven, Slippery Rock fans who are the problem.

Something old lobo mentioned yrs ago was the college campus push the gop was trying to mobilize. seeing Charlie Kirk and the TPA assholes post videos from campus visits is a bit alarming, esp in PA and AZ. I’m sure there’s some bussing in or paid stooge action to some degree but still is gross that college kids would gravitate toward such a grotesque human in every way.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris has secured the endorsement of one of the nation’s largest Muslim American voter mobilization groups, marking a significant boost to her campaign since many Muslim and Arab American organizations have opted to support third-party candidates or not endorse.

Emgage Action, the political arm of an 18-year-old Muslim American advocacy group, endorsed Harris’ presidential campaign on Wednesday, saying in a statement provided first to The Associated Press that the group “recognizes the responsibility to defeat” Donald Trump in November.

Honestly remarkable how Trump not only has softened the GOP’s opinion of Russia, he has them all actively rooting against Ukraine. Purely because he wants to fuck Putin.

Well, the GOP married Trump. It's a cuckold thing, I'd guess.

https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/09/ohio-will-invalidate-votes-for-2024-presidential-candidate-jill-stein-because-of-vp-swap.html

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohioans’ votes cast this fall for presidential candidate Jill Stein will not count because the Green Party nominated her running mate after a state administrative deadline, according to party and state officials.

Stein, who filed to run as an independent presidential candidate in Ohio because the Green Party lost state recognition several years ago, will still appear on state ballots, which began to be sent out last week to overseas and military voters, according to Dan Lusheck, a spokesman for Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office.

When Stein filed to run for president in Ohio, she listed Anita Rios – the Green Party’s 2014 nominee for Ohio governor – as her running mate. However, Rios’ name was only submitted as a placeholder until the Green Party nominated Butch Ware, a history professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara, for vice president at the party’s national convention on Aug. 17.

When Rios notified the Ohio secretary of state’s office in late August that she was pulling her name from the ballot in favor of Ware, LaRose’s office accepted her withdrawal but refused to add Ware’s name in her place, according to Philena Farley, co-chair of the Ohio Green Party.

The reason LaRose’s office gave for refusing to add Ware’s name is that, under state law, the deadline to replace an independent vice-presidential candidate on the 2024 ballot was Aug. 12, Farley said.

As Stein no longer has a recognized running mate, any votes cast for her are invalid, the Ohio Green Party stated in a post on X.

For the overwhelming majority of morons it boils down to nothing more than inflation. Inflation was bad during Biden, not during Trump. Clearly that’s all due to things Biden and Trump did.

You guys give WAY WAY too much credit to the general population of this country. There are tens of millions of people in this country that are really fucking stupid.

Go over to the Springfield thread and watch the interviews with the locals and then imagine every single small town in the country being filled with millions of people like that.

Those are the people that decided Trump was the best the gop could offer.

We are living in idiocracy.

Trying to come up with a counter-narrative to Russia's increasingly known interference with our election.  Just like the "Biden crime family" was an attempt to counter-narrate Trump's crimes.

any votes for her were ALREADY invalid, as they just take votes away from the only legit candidate.

I wish Biden would come out and say that. Sorry, I refer you to scotus. I won’t be doing any of that. Fuck off

SCOTUS: We limit our holdings to the particular facts and legal questions before us... the plaintiff was Trump and the case regarded his misdeeds, so don't stretch it to cover Biden.

Pretty sure this has to do with a Ukrainian ambassador (theirs, not ours) speaking at a Dem/Kamala fundraising event arranging a visit to Pennsylvania without a Republican escort.

They also asked Zelenskyy to recall that ambassador.

Typical bullshit that R’s are going to throw against the wall.

Another anti-business aspect of Trump is his unpredictability. I guarantee business leaders, even those who have vocally supported Trump, hate that they have zero idea what random Trump tweet can hurt their business. And once Trump has made a proclamation he cannot walk back a mistake no matter even if he privately realizes he was wrong.

Yep.  He's a loose cannon with the fuse lit, rolling around on the deck ... and I mean that in respect to everything, not just businesses and the economy.

It's up there for us - I'd prefer New England, but I also have a few dozen former co-workers that I've stayed in touch with, who are in the Raleigh area (Research Triangle) and they pass long job offers every now and then.  Not taking any right now because my wife's retirement is tied to Texas unfortunately, but maybe in a few years the right offer will hit to make it worth our while.

I'm really enjoying that the Party of Reagan has turned into the Party of Supporting the former Communist KGB agent-turned-Russian Dictator in their war against a Democracy.

I love pointing out that to MAGA relatives, because most of them don't have a response.
