I don't believe PR was ever offered statehood.

Thanks.  They have voted internally but have never been extended the offer.  Sorry for the confusion.

We have been warning the Republicans about this. The more they gerrymander the more everybody will. Granted some Blue States, like Illinois, always seemed to be about that life.

Puerto Rico has held seven nonbinding referendums on its status, and statehood has received the majority of the votes in the last four.  However, I don't think keeping the status quo was included as an option in any of those four.

The various PR statehood / commonwealth / independence plebiscites have generally been boycotted or deemed unrepresentative by one faction or another. It's far from a sure thing, should a binding referendum be held, that statehood would even be desired.

I personally think they should either shit or get off the pot. Having millions of non-represented people as part of our Union is frankly embarrasing. Same with the other inhabited territories (or commonwealth or whatever the fuck their technical legal status is). Being a territory was never supposed to be a permanent status. Except for DC but...that was a special case.

So either go be your own country or join ours.

But pretty far down the list of priorities.

Yes. I am aware. They have technically voted to join the Union a few times, with the caveats that you just stated. However, unless Congress votes to admit them it doesn't matter and I don't see Congress doing that any time soon, even if PR was 100% for becoming a state.

I'm sure Christians wouldn't mind at all being painted with that broad of a brush.

"Hey you're a Christian, just like Donald Trump claims to be. So I can only assume that you are also a lifelong conman and 34 time convicted felon and child rapist and regular rapist?"

I contend that each of these 50 states is a different country being held in a loose coalition and the second we start thinking like that the better we'll all be at understanding the bullshit happening around us

Novel idea- ditch the constitution and write some sort of articles of confederation.

I still have fond memories of hanging out in Little Cape Town last time I visited Miami

I grew up in Miami and I only ran into 1 person from South Africa in over 20 years (my tennis coach who was UM men's tennis coach, John Hammill).

I'm not sure if there's a good place to post this but I thought I'd share. If anyone here has progressive offspring who'd want to be a social media manager for a TX journalism site and has 3 years experience...

She's got both Simple Minds and Oasis notches on her belt.

Also, obligatory:

NEGGED.  I purposefully picked a photo where she's not wearing a belt.

And man....she was as fine as cornsilk in that movie.

I know we all made fun of her at the time, but in retrospect that "The Iraq" girl had a point about people who don't have maps or access to maps.
