Little known factoid: every astronaut who walked on the moon was an former Eagle Scout.

FIFY.

I shared this fact with all the new Boy Scouts when I was an Assistant Scoutmaster. I also told them Charles Whitman was an Eagle Scout.

The more important thing is what you do with it.

My former business partner was an Eagle Scout. I thought about that when he told me, "I know we have a contract, and I know we owe you money, but we're not going to pay you anymore. If you don't like it, sue us."

I did. I won, they lost. They paid me my money, late. I froze their back account. That was kind of a big deal for an energy trading company.

I encouraged my scouts, and their parents, to complete their Eagle Scout requirements when they were older. Most young teenagers who grow up in affluent areas have little concept of service to others.

RIP, Jim Lovell.

As I have heard it said to a number of scouts, “Don’t be a Life for life.”

It’s tough to get them to finish their Eagle requirements once the fumes hit:

gasoline fumes

My oldest brother is an Eagle Scout - He attained that rank at the age of 13. (Had over 100 merit badges).

I didn’t make it past my Cub Scout Wolf badge after we moved back Stateside in 1954.

Mom was our Den Mother at Fort Brooke in Puerto Rico. I’m 4th from left:

Dr. James Dobson has headed to the pearly gates.

For a moment I thought you meant this guy, and all I could think was who assassinated him this time.

Seems that they did whatever the could to get as far away from the Scouts as possible. How many were Catholic altar boys?

Yeah, if there's a heaven, Dobson probably shouldn't be allowed in.

My dad was the Scoutmaster and my mother was my Den Mother. I was in the Cub Scouts; got kicked out for eating a Brownie. Just kidding!

If we stayed in Florida, my brother would have earned his Eagle Scout rank. We moved to Austin in '66, he got a guitar, and rest is history.

Bergstrom did not have the parental involvement that Eglin had. Too many short cycle dads were sent to Vietnam, and Austin, TX was a lot different than Valparaiso, FL.
