Just trying to put out what can be found. This was the first real reference to a news report on my former camp Waldemar so I wanted to share.

we all realize things are fluid right now so nothing is 100% but it’s encouraging to hear any news regarding Waldemar at this point,

Waldemar, Loma Linda (Mo Ranch), and Stewart all sit on the north fork (I think)of the Guadalupe.
Mystic, Heart of the Hills, Arrowhead, and La Junta all sit on the south fork. I have no idea if it makes a difference, but I’m pretty sure they collide right at Hunt. Hence, La Junta getting absolutely pummeled.

Mo Ranch reports no power or phone, but everyone safe. They have lots of high ground there, and very few buildings are down low.

For those familiar with the Canyon Lake area, what are the chances of problems on the Guadalupe River below the dam?

We are currently at a resort camp place on the river and are wondering if they will be passing water down stream and should we leave while we can.

I had thought Canyon Lake was low so it may just fill it up?

Waldemar has cabins mostly up high, and I suspect if it had had the flooding La Junta and Mystic did, would probably be better off.

This happened long before (late 80s i think) when a bus load of campers out there tried to make it across a flooded road.  They had girls clinging to trees during the rescue.  Cannot remember how many died.

The older girls cabins at Mystic are higher on the hill but closer to the river. The younger girls cabins are lower but at the back of the camp further from the banks. Overall the camp is along the river so if it goes up 30 ft I’m not sure there is anywhere to go.

Ugh. Waldemar’s cabins are set back from the banks quite a bit.

My wife just told me Mystic is right on the water.

Fuck.
We’re in Ingram. Two of my friends and I are going to work from land. Sheriffs and Firefighters are going in the boats.

You probably know my nephew who lives near there out in the sticks. He retired from the Kerrville PD several years ago. His wife is on staff at Honey Creek Camp.

Parents are texting each other and any Mystic counselors pictures of their daughters along with their phone numbers in case anyone can identify them if they are found. They are “have you seen me?”-esque. I’m 300 miles away and watching my kids and their friends running around the neighborhood and I’ve had go sit by the toilet a couple of times because I was about to puke. These girls are clearly not old enough to manage anything like this on their own, the pictures are completely haunting.

Britt and I graduated together. I used to go to Texas games in high school with the entire Eastland family. Edward is the youngest of the brothers. He and his wife are on the list of people unaccounted for. God damnit.

I'd say zero.

It would take 5 days of this kind of flooding to overflow the dam here.  This lake is the lowest it has ever been since it was filled up after the dam was built.  My family has a house just downriver from Sattler in Little Ponderosa and it's right on the river.  Like 20 steps from the back door to the water.  It's been there since the early 50s.  We aren't worried in the slightest.

All this water will simply be caught by the lake and stay there.

I'll answer that one.  The adults in charge were not paying attention to the weather, or they said "nawwww the water can't go THAT high, it never has."

These camps are fairly isolated such that there's no flood sirens nearby. Maybe there's been budget cuts to the NWS. Who knows.

Where my daughter is, Laity Lodge, has no cell coverage until you're back on Hwy 83. They're kind of trapped for now because you have to drive in the river to get in and out. The water has risen and the camp lost all their river toys, but the Frio there doesn't become the torrent like the Guadalupe.

Yeah, cell coverage is very limited out there.  It could be they just had zero heads-up on this.

Are there any chances it's not the worst case?

😢 🙏🏼

I keep praying not. But the person who posted under the camp mystic alumni group is a friend of mine. Finding out a bit more. It’s every parent’s nightmare right now.

How fucking difficult would it be for town and county officials to get out ahead of the flooding, drive to the camps and tell them to clear out?  This just feels like a huge fuckup.  I get the "cry wolf" concern but at some point the adults have to act like adults.

Personally I'd GTFO.

Im hearing the major flooding is below the Canyon dam.  Any truth to that?  Too bad for those folks if so.

A lot of information and who knows what’s true but some hope - one of our good friends daughters is named in tha note that Cajun posted and we just heard that the east lands and the 26 young girls are stranded on an island but safe waiting for helicopters to pick them up. I worry about posting inaccurate info but hopeful this is correct

Reminiscent of the Wimberley thread on Shaggy 10 years ago.

I was very good friends at UT with a girl in the family that mostly drowned that night. I think she, her husband and kids and maybe her sister survived. Everybody else drowned — both her parents, BIL and her nieces/nephews. It’s still upsetting to think about.

My folks had a lake house right below the damn many years ago.

I don’t think that Mystic alumni page should’ve published the names.

Agreed.
