He loves opining about NFL quarterbacks but rarely says anything about other positions other than, "I think he's really good." Dude is always confident in his wrongness though.

He’s a shock jock that sells outrage, like Stephen a smith. His takes only need to go against the grain for them to be “hot” takes. If you gambled on his takes you’d be looking for your next park bench for the evening. He wouldn’t gamble on his takes. He’s for entertainment purposes only—to get people riled up and be insufferable.

Sorry to interrupt whatever the fuck is going on here, but I've spoilered an update from Bucknuts regarding a few OSU positions. The DT note is very telling. They're lacking depth there, Kanu leaving didn't help them at all, and they're going to have to go with odd fronts at times due to the problem. Ohio State has a stacked roster because they recruit as well as anyone, but the roster is overly stacked in areas of focus by Day, for instance WR, CB and Safety. They under-recruit OL and they've not done as well with depth at DT over the last few cycles either.

OSU has 3 points of weakness heading into the game against Texas, and all can be exploited by this Texas team:

1) QB - They don't lack for QBs with 5 star ratings, but they lack experience and the offseason reports aren't great. Sayin is not a running QB, so watching him try to get his shit together against the Texas front in 43 days should be fun to watch.

2) OL - They're replacing 4 OLs. OL has never been a strength for them under Day and now they're patching together transfers and homegrown youth. Not having 2 NFL ready RBs behind them and a 5th year QB playing behind the new OL isn't going to help much. Again, the front 7 should be hell on earth for these guys come 8/30.

3) DT - Discussed the depth issues already and there's more in the notes below. They have 2 excellent DT starters, but they're really thin behind them and they're in trouble if they're pushing those guys for 50+ snaps in 80+ degree weather.

Spoiler

** Cornered market … Will youth be served? Sure. But just how young? That’s a key question when talking training camp when it comes to key tussles for playing time at cornerback.

We asked a source in the know which training camp battle for PT is particularly intriguing.

“No. 3 corner,” the source said. “Really, one of the more anticipated. You’re talking about three really high-level guys in (Bryce) West, (Aaron) Scott and (Devin). All of them, but they need to find out who the No. 3 corner before we get to Texas.”

How does our guy see it?

“Each one had had a really good spring and kept going into nice summer session,” our source. “This is the definition of a great problem to have. Any of ‘em could be a good fit. Means we really have five corners you feel you can play on Saturdays.

“And don’t sleep on [Miles] Lockhart. He’s behind those guys but he can play.”

** ‘Can’t wait!’ … A former Ohio State player went in-depth on his thoughts on the Buckeyes’ situation at defensive tackle entering the 2025 campaign.

“I’m still surprised we weren’t able to land a DT in the portal, especially when Coach Day was so outspoken about us looking for one,” the former OSU player said. “I hope this means they are more confident in the depth than perhaps they were entering spring. Sounds like Will Smith Jr. is gonna be our first guy off the bench there. After that, I’m thinking Eric Mensah might get the fourth-most PT of our DTs. He’s having a good summer and I would put him ahead of Jason Moore and Ty Malone right now. A true freshman that might give us some help this year is Jarquez Carter who was very productive in high school playing against a lot of talented kids down there in Florida. Shorter, low-center-of-gravity type; very quick and strong. Can’t rely on him to play a lot of snaps this year, but he should provide some decent depth as a three-deep guy.

“We’ve all been focused on the possibility we don’t have enough depth there, but I don’t think we’re talking enough about our starters in K-Mac (Kayden McDonald) and Eddrick Houston. Both of those guys are primed to have big seasons. And if we do end up with a lack of ideal depth behind them, I fully expect (Matt) Patricia to use more odd fronts this year due to the good depth we have at DE.

“I’m very bullish on this defense overall and can’t wait to see what tweaks Patricia is going to make. And we will find out right away considering the fact we’re opening up with Texas and not some cupcake.”

DISCLAIMER: The House is a place for rumors and gossip and innuendo. We don’t treat it as if it’s “inside information,” like some people do. Yet – you guys love to hear the good stuff. To do that, we have to:
1) Disclaim that we don’t know if any of it is true
2) Not attribute it to any particular source
3) Not attribute it to any particular reporter

OTF update on the secondary below:

Spoiler

Updates on the Secondary

***

SEC Media Days has wrapped up and we continue our slow path towards week one of the College Football season.

As we stand today, there are only 43 days until August 30.

Some notes on the Texas secondary as we inch ever so close to the beginning of the season.

***

– Jelani McDonald has been seeing plenty of work in the STAR position. I believe Texas has three guys they trust in their version of the nickel with McDonald, Jaylon Guilbeau and Wardell Mack comprising of the bunch.

We talk about versatility and think about it – that STAR position is as versatile a spot as you will find on the team. Guilbeau is getting work at cornerback and figures to be the guy opposite of Malik Muhammad for the first week of the season against Ohio State.

 – Speaking of cornerback, Kobe Black is the first guy off the sidelines. Black has pieced things together pretty well this offseason.

Also at corner, and something I mentioned earlier in the week, I have heard Graceson Littleton's name as often as any early enrollee this summer. What does that mean for immediate play time? I don't know. But for the long-term optimist in me, it's a great indication of what is to come.

– On a positive injury note: S Derek Williams Jr. is fully back on the field. There may be some green jersey usage early in fall camp to preserve some hits, but otherwise, the movement is back to where Texas wants it to be.

– For Wardell Mack, he will be a piece of the puzzle. How big? I don't know. My thoughts lead toward his usage being very matchup based.

– As for Jonah Williams.

There have designed opportunities for Williams in the summer to work hand-in-hand with Michael Taaffe at the safety position. The two have shared the field at times this summer with the hope to expedite the learning curve for Williams. Only a month and a half into the on-field work, Williams is needing to get up to speed with the play calls and responsibilities at each safety position.

I will add this, when Williams is on the field, he is just as much of a smack-talker as anyone on the field. If he makes a play, everyone on the field hears about it. That's the edge we saw on the diamond in the spring, and it will certainly carry over to the gridiron this fall.

– For Jordon Johnson-Rubell and Xavier Filsaime, this offseason has been key for their leadership growth. Still, there remains some work to do, but that was the reason for the "Muzzling Michael Taaffe" article I posted earlier in the week. I think JJR would be your 4th safety on the field currently.

– Freshman CB Kade Phillips remains a very high-ceiling guy for the Horns who will see action this fall.

***

Healthy competition is the best way I can describe the position rooms at the moment. Spirited competition is how I would describe the 7v7 throwing sessions with the offense and I believe Arch Manning and Michael Taaffe are big reasons for that.

Just reading between the lines, sounds like Littleton and Phillips are gonna be pushing some current corners down the depth chart here pretty soon. A guy like Roberson could probably play just about anywhere, but will soon be third team if he's not already.

Quality depth in the secondary is ridiculous right now. I can’t wait to see them play.
