Calling him a conservative probably isn't accurate/helpful either.

Mannish Nancy immediately blamed democrats when literally nothing was known about the shooter, so I don't really give a fuck about cutting corners in the other direction.

People need to calm down with assumptions. Just because his family might've been Republican or conservative doesn't mean the kid was. If anything, the kid just may be an edgelord like we're seeing more and more of. We'll find out more but people need to stop trying to spike the football until more comes out.

Once again you are describing a modern Republican

Or we can find out the kid got radicalized post high school by any number of internet rabbit holes and did what lots of dumbfuck young men have done, picking up a weapon to make a statement.

Calling him a conservative probably isn't accurate/helpful either. Just another young male with internet mush brain and wildly inconsistent/conflicting/incredibly dumb views and opinions.

A commentator on NPR this morning described this growing demographic of shooters as "salad bar assassins."  Those are folks who aren't easily pigeon-holed into one political party or ideology, and instead express a mish-mash of beliefs and grievances that are all over the map.

This kid could fall into that category, or not.  But, while there's still lots to uncover (and yeah, innocent before guilty and all that), it seems like MAGA is losing all hope of pinning him as one of "them."

Again, a modern Republican especially in his age demographic

Yep.  This started with the founding of Fox News, through the Tea Party, through Trumpism, and beyond.
They've been playing a very long game.  And I'm afraid this isn't the end; it's the middle.
I think Obama and Biden actually did a very good job slowing it down for as long as they could.

Broadly agree but sternly disagree where it comes to Biden. He had a chance to take this on directly and instead put Merrick fucking Garland in charge and avoided going after those responsible for Jan 6.

Just completely feckless to go after the crowd instead of the organizers. Pure political cowardice born of a different age and failing to meet the needs of the moment.

The first 4 items in Billy's list are plainly true. The 5th is still TBD.

That didn't stop potus and others all the way down calling for beating the hell out of the "Left" or openly calling for civil war 2.0. And I really doubt they are going to reconsider now and will just keep escalating and fanning the flames that got us here in the first place. I'd love to be wrong.

I mean, it was probably a bit late in the game for the Trojans to shout, "we're sorry, Cassandra" as they're being stabbed to death by some Greek.  But still, . . . .

Merrick fucking Garland

The most DEI of all the DEI that Biden ever did. Consolation prize for getting fucked by ruthless republicans and Obama's weak, presumptuous party that was oh so convinced Hillary would have it in the bag.

Its like I said the other day: Once Trump is off the political scene, these mush brains could easily swing to aggressive socialism/borderline Marxism.  If the GOP thinks this group has anything in common with them other than the Racism, they are going to be in for a rough ride.

When I see young White males who do stuff like this, I always go back to that article I saw a few years ago (and posted on this site, I think) about a White mother who was trying to warn everyone she could how White boys are being groomed/indoctrinated by online hate groups on YouTube and other platforms.

Not the thread for it, but imagine for a moment the two parties were reversed, and team Biden did all the stuff surrounding 1/6, including all the shit with the phone calls to the states trying to get them to lie about their vote tallies. Biden would have been arrested the moment Trump was sworn in.

We will see how far gone we are if they publicly execute him without a trial.

I think we'll have one but it'll effectively be a show trial. And the SCOTUS will see to it that he gets the needle in record time.

The young white grievance demographic is quite the bustling industry.

I don't see it. Identity politics are sticky.

Social media is bad for all these young brains. I see it with my lefty oldest daughter. I'm constantly challenging her to better evaluate what she's watching and is it credible? Is it meant to be ragebait? It is even factual in any way?

You think any of your questions matter? GOP has been targeting young voters this exact way for years and Kirk was part of that machine.

Yeah, don’t fucking hold your breath on that. This is a stupid, binary thinking country that can’t comprehend nuance.

he says that we, as a society, have accepted that the benefit of driving cars is worth 50k dead. that's what he's conflating and you're suggesting others are being dishonest about his positions?

he speaks of an armed citizenry and how it's worth some deaths to have it. he doesn't mention (in that clip) that the gun death total is on par with car accident deaths, if not higher. he mentions the benefits to cars and driving but doesn't mention the benefits to having an armed citizenry. i wonder why.

he spends the rest of the clip saying that all you need to avoid gun deaths is to have armed guards outside of (fill-in-the-blank / wherever gun deaths happen). he wants more armed guards outside schools is (i imagine) the point he was trying to make in the clip. i'm sure we have plenty of public funding to make that happen.

he says there are no longer shootings at baseball games because there are armed guards outside of baseball games. there are 15 baseball games a day for 6 months. there are 150,000 schools.

but sure, people are being dishonest about his rational and realistic positions. you don't have to get into his hate-speech, racism, sexism, or christian-white-nationalist-speech to understand exactly who he is.

i'm not going to celebrate his death. but i'm damn sure not going to celebrate his life.

He also said that taxing the rich was stealing what was rightfully theirs, and therefore broke commandments. So who pays for all these armed guards?

I don't necessarily disagree, and some of the left will argue that this was a MAGA on MAGA assassination.  But so far the data points are weighted most heavily against the narrative on the right.  And you have to acknowledge that parts of that narrative are downright ridiculous ("Trans markings on bullet casings!!!).

This shit should be being taught in junior high. Oh well, very soon AI is going to make it impossible to discern real from fake and society will really begin to come apart at the seams. Weeee!

Dating back to the Halloween photos 8 years ago it is painting him as a Republican, perhaps January 6 and the subsequent actions of trump empowered him as he drifted further and further right

How long would it have taken the FBI to find him if the kid didn’t confess to his dad?

I don't think the confession mattered, he was fucked the moment the cameras got a clear shot of him IMO. If he had covered his face, I think there's a decent chance he never gets caught, but he'd probably fuck up and talk about it at some point.

This describes 80%+ of the population. How does the pundit class still not understand that political and even ideological identity is tribal, and is only incidentally connected to the politics of issues?
