Charlie Kirk assassinated at an event in Utah [Professional Job or Crazy Person?]

Charlie Kirk strongly identified as a Christian. He was not killed for it. He was killed because he engaged people in the public square, put his shit out there and gave others equal opportunity to put their shit out there. Our political climate doesn't like that sort of thing.

It is going to be a crazy conspiracy theory loon that bought into any number of right wing bullshit talking points. Or maybe it'll just be spouse of someone he fucked. I guess we'll find out. I do know with certainty that his business wasn't "engaging people in the public square" with "equal opportunity." He was an internet troll. You know a thing or ten about that.

If by “Christians” you mean grifting/moneychanging racist hatemongers who profit off spreading hate, violence and intolerance in our youth, then yes you hit the nail on the head!

I mean he fanned flames on social media for years. At a certain point radically people was kind of an expected side effect including someone crazy enough to shoot him. Doesn’t mean he deserved it but he wasn’t singing too loud in church.

The project spanned mass shootings over more than 50 years, yet 20% of the 167 mass shootings in that period occurred in the last five years of the study period.

167 events in 50 years….

While any death is tragic I stand by my position this definition isn’t what is presented to the public when mass shooting statistics are presented in MSM

example

https://www.cnn.com/us/mass-shootings-fast-facts

CNN) — There have been at least 299 mass shootings in the United States so far this year, leaving at least 225 people deadand 1,350 injured, according to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA).

Good to see you never get tired of debasing yourself.

A lot of this going around.   I've pretty much decided that this country is totally screwed.   The fact that Kirk was some kind of role model and is now a martyr for the cause means it's over.

We scour people’s social media when they apply for jobs, and now, if we want to politically investigate them, yet, we shouldn’t be allowed to do the same for gun restrictions? Weird.

someone that's going to kill another person isn't going to try and get a gun legally that can be traced to him and he will have no problem getting one illegally just like anyone can easily get any illegal drug. My attempt at sarcasm didn't go over well, If the US could do a reasonably good job at keeping guns away from criminals I would be fine with banning guns but our experience with drugs is criminals have no problem getting endless amounts of illegal drugs and it would be the same for guns.

Debasing myself? I'm just saying we don't know what the shooter's motive was. It is never as simple as the hot take political commentary. The attempted assassination of Trump wasn't (crazy guy who appears to have flipped a coin between Biden and Trump). The actual assassination of democratic politicians (crazy guy who had some strong right wing beliefs, but mostly his stated reasons made no sense) wasn't. And I'm guessing this one will not be either.

I don't think so.  Quite the opposite.

He is 100% celebrating it. He is overjoyed, because this:
Charlie Kirk murder as the trumpist flavor of a Reichstag fire would be too fucking dumb. Even for this timeline
Spoiler

I hope

It’s not too dumb. It’s already in motion. This is what Trump and Miller were waiting for. It was always going to end up this way. Once the path was chosen, bloodshed, ramping up, was always the outcome.
Spend years lighting fires, fanning flames of hate…drawing hate in response…then using that responsive hate to justify your original hate…while you also dismantle the Rule of Law, the only mechanism standing in the way of brutality. And yeah, here we are. It gets worse. Much, much worse.

They didn't go this hard when an actual church school got shot up recently, but are throwing it out there because one fascist got reminded what eventually happens to fascists?

Hilarious.

It's all so predictable. The battle lines have been drawn now for almost a decade. Sides have been chosen and entrenched. We're all just going about our lives trying to act like it's all business as usual when inside our minds we all know many of the people walking amongst us are our enemies.

We're in an, ironically named, national "Mexican Standoff".

This nation is a volcano with pressure building it. On days like today, the assassination/attack of dem politicians in Minn, trump invading LA and DC, etc. the volcano erupts just a little bit. A little lava spray to remind us all what's building under the surface.

Where does it go from here? Do these little spurts of lava release enough pressure over time that the people in this nation back off the ledge? Does the trump fascism take us over the edge into eruption?

Tune in to find out. Same bat time. Same bat channel.

Again, I draw a distinction between "celebrating" an incident and attempting to use it for political capital.  Two different things.

Go look at death rates by firearm in other developed countries and compare them to here. What's the difference between us and them?

Edit - fuck it, I'll answer myself - they have real gun control laws. They work. Time and time again, gun control laws lead to less gun related deaths. It's not mental health issues, everyone has that, no one has figured it out. It's the fucking guns.

The GVA uses less discerning metrics.  And doesn't make any conclusions or analysis.  That's on CNN.

Do the countries who have success with gun control limiting gun crime somehow have much better law enforcement than we do? They certainly don't have fewer drugs...

They’re absolutely trying to make him a martyr, but they say the same shit they’re saying now all the time. They say it when the green m&m gets a makeover, when Cracker Barrel modernizes their logo, when they chip a nail or get the wrong order in the drive through, etc. It really diminishes the impact of their propaganda when they’ve got nowhere new to go when something like this happens.
