Not the second coming in general, this particular iteration.  Each one is a reboot, and (strangely) wrong.

You are just throwing out gibberish.

These type of predictions always work out well

these people actually live in my neighborhood.   No shit. About 1/2 mile up the road

At one time, the apostles believed the second coming would happen in their lifetimes. Then that was amended. So this has been “reinterpreted” since literally the time of Christ.

If someone said to me a poster here had this background I would have sworn it was an incredulty or zeus type nutter.

That shit would suck as a kid. My friend grew up Jehovas Witness and his parents didnt give half a shit if he graduated or went to school at all because it was unnecessary. Since the world would be ending and their god would be setting up a paradise for only the Jehovas any day now. Dude ended up graduating from UT and becoming a silicon valley programmer.

Guess there's a lot of nature that can overcome the nurture if it's strong enough.

Yeah, there's definitely a bit of nihilism that sets in when it feels like nothing matters besides your own religiosity, because the end is so near.  I remember arguing with my mom that I didn't need to do school/homework, since the Rapture was going to be soon. It did not go over well, but as a kid, I really thought that made sense. It's a weird way to live, and it devalues your time on Earth when you constantly think life is about to end. Even weirder when you think people are actually hoping life ends and they move on to the after-life.

That’s cool.  Ever get to hear them jam? I bet they play good stuff that isn’t goofy like that.

Nickel Creek co-habitates?  That's . . . weird.

The concept imagined by a South African is an "American" Christian oddity.  Solid contribution.

Obviously he is one of the Afrikaans... a white guy, or the American / USA Fundies wouldn't believe him.
