Freeman is at least going to consider an LSU offer if the $$$ is right. He hasn't really hid that he's aware of ND's transfer limitations. LSU is its own deal and I can see him not wanting to wade into that flavor of crazy, it all just comes down to what your goals are I think. If its national championship or bust for a guy, you have to listen to LSU. If its about quality of life and being in the hunt for a championship, he should stay and see how things shake out for Day at Ohio State.

If Texas were willing to pony up, we could get him.

He got ND to the championship game once already.  No reason to believe he can't find magic in a bottle and win one there.

I doubt that LSU goes back to the ND well. I think the fan reaction would be bad.

And (sry for this) would they hire a black man?  This is still Louisiana.

No shit.

The playoff rules were written to damn near guarantee them a spot every year. They started 0-2 and they're making it this year.

Market conditions indicate that there are more quality jobs than coaches.  The only person I'd be interested in if I were an AD somewhere is Kiffen.  In our situation here at the 40, I would stand "pat" and not dip into the chaos of a coaching change.  Let's not trade the devil for the witch, simply because we can.  Let's hire an OC and make another run.

Temporarily, yes. But in 5 years will they change will there be only 2 major conferences?

Depends on how this season ends and next season imo. I’ll wait to draw my fire card or not until 2026 season.

Not wrong but this has been said for decades

Well, there has been a development in the last few years equivalent to the invention of steam engines to agrarian England.

I wonder how many people think Name-Image-Likeness when they read NIL. That reasonable debate was handled poorly and has now pretty much been shuffled aside to set up the careening. So, it's different this time.

Add the notion of paying a coach $25-35-55 million to leave then hiring a new coach with the same deal and risks, and you have financial insanity. I don't see how anyone stops it, so we just ride along. When you get into the neighborhood of half a billion dollars going to fire coaches in one season, you're in a pretty sick part of town.

I hate Kirby Smart, but he nailed this.  If Texas finishes 10-2/9-3, it was a normal season and there's no pressure on Sark.  A decade ago, we would have given our left nut for a 9-3/10-2 season.

Talk to me if we finish 8-4/7-5

I feel this cycle is odd because being a “big name” and having a decent resume might not be enough. It’s far more important that they embrace NIL etc and work well with donors. The old CEO model is over. I think there are tons of coordinators and assistants ready for this new world whose names none of us know right now.

Answer to the thread in general...

2025 will be tough to beat.

Yep, my first reply in the thread was the 2021(?) carousel was the craziest.  This one should surpass it especially when the moves within P4 to fill the current vacancies take place.  That's what made 2021 so awesome, you had big name openings that were filled by coaches from other big name programs (Riley to USC, Kelly to LSU).

I assume LSU hires Joe Brady but the timing is not ideal.

His good seasons have come with Drew Brees, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen as his QB. Good luck replicating that.

I'm feeling better about not running Sark nor or after this season each day.

With LSU, Florida, Penn St, UCLA, Arkansas, OK St all needing coaches, and potentially OU and Ole Miss(if Kiffin leaves) there's simply not enough quality coaches to fill them. Even Texas would have trouble finding out which is the best candidate.

Have we ever seen this many big time openings?  Florida/LSU/Penn St at all top 10 jobs, Florida is a Top 5 job, LSU a Top 3 one just behind OSU and Texas...if OU opens up that'll be at least 4 Top 10 jobs open.

THEORETICALLY everything is still there for the taking. Win out and win a NC. I don't think anyone believes it's a real possibility, but it's not impossible.

Assuming that doesn't happen, we have the opportunity to have the second-best possible season - wins over both OU & A&M to potentially eliminate them from the playoffs. Honestly, that's really all I'm cheering for at this point.

Kinda interesting - BetOnline has Jon Sumrall as the early favorite for LSU, followed by Joe Brady and then Kiffin.

Brady seems like he prefers NFL but damn, how can you turn down one of these massive guaranteed college coach contracts especially at his age. He'd be set for life and could always go back to the NFL later.

Speaking of NFL coordinators, I wonder if Todd Monken gets looks from anyone? He did well as OC at UGA and as HC at Southern Miss a while back

Your job rankings are whack as fuck. LSU is not top3. It's definitely top 10, though. Florida and Penn State on the cusp of top 10, anywhere from 9-15 depending on how you rank tier 4. OU not even close to a top 10 job.

Tier One: Texas, Ohio State, Georgia

Tier Two: Oregon, Alabama, Michigan (assuming Larry Ellison keeps giving $$)

Tier Three: LSU, Notre Dame

Tier Four: A&M, Florida, Penn State, Miami, Clemson, Florida State, Tennessee, Oklahoma,

Even if (when) we beat aggy, they're still going to the playoff.  Missouri lost its QB and tight end against Vandy, South Carolina is a fucking dumpster fire.

Hell, the way things are perfectly aligning for aggy this year; our team will probably get hit with a measles outbreak the week of our game.

You might be right.   I still think as posted on the breaking news thread from Saturday, CDC has a name or two in his pocket just in case the NFL story doesn't go away.  Or if we completely tank in the next four games in a horrible way.

Sark still needs to right the ship with his staff (aka Flood) and the OC duties.

Sark isn’t being fired if we lose the next few games.

He will be forced to make staff changes and maybe hire an OC. But he’s not getting immediately canned. Jesus

I could see Missery offering him if Dinkwitz gets poached by someone and I can see Lincoln taking that because it is a lot less pressure and a fresh 5 year contract to be way over paid and a season with 10 or more wins gets him an extension and a raise

i think there's a lot of truth to this , the game has totally changed in a lot of ways

we'll probably see new admin roles beyond what we're already starting to see emerge

there are a few old school coaches are are just digging their heels in that may not be here in 6-18 months like Gundy , I'm looking at you Dabo

I agree.  All I ever asked was that they at least "THINK" about it, and force some changes.

This. Unless there are "off-field" things that can't be stomached, he will get a chance to right the ship. As he should. He is one year removed from being widely considered a top 5 coach.

This offseason was a cluster that burned this season (not addressing the OL, weakening the offseason practice schedule, etc), but he can revert back to his previous approach that worked well if he has the self-awareness to do so.

So like Davante Adams has a Taco Bell in his house in those TV commercials, elko would have a Buc-ees in his house with a glazed-pecans machine, etc., to just conveyor-belt the food into his mouth?  Lulz.

Kiffin is gonna crush it at LSU or Florida. The dude has a stud offense everywhere he goes with whoever he plugs in at QB.

Get him some top-tier talent on defense and watch out

He had four defensive players drafted off last year's team.  They weren't exactly lacking talent and still didn't make the playoff.

What are the chances of someone convincing DeBoer to leave Bama? I assume things have smoothed over but definitely had a rocky start. Their fans were ready to oust him as recently as early this season. I wonder if he's happy there or could be lured away.

He's not taking a different college job. He might leave for the NFL, but similar to Sark, I don't think he's currently being seriously considered for any NFL gigs. Only one that would make sense is Atlanta if they think he  can uniquely transform Penix into an all-pro.

And his debut season was only a rocky start if you impossibly hold him to the same standard as Saban. They were one (admittedly disqualifying) loss to OU away from making the playoffs. Hardly a bad start in year one following the GOAT, even with the frustration of losing that OU game.

Oh I'm not saying Bama should want him gone. I think he's a damn good coach. But objectively speaking, that fanbase had turned on him already. Hilarious example: Alabama Fan Says She’d Use Powerball Winnings To Buy Out DeBoer - Yahoo Sports

It's highly unlikely but I'm just wondering if he could be pissed at how he's been treated there and open to a move.

I don’t think it’s as easy to make these lists. And it’s too early in the NIL and portal era. Stuff like money is still super important, location near a recruiting base less so, and a sophisticated NIL system really important. History matters but maybe not as much. Even big programs are still figuring it out.

Clearly teams like OSU and Texas are still high up. Whats not clear to me: why not Indiana now that they seem to be committed to winning at football? Why isn’t Notre Fame a tier one job because based on recruiting and performance it sure looks like one?

Expectations change overtime but in a 12-16 team playoff, that is the bare minimum expectation at Texas. If you don’t make it two years in a row or even 3 that’s not going to cut it imo.
