Are you unfamiliar with the work of Jerrah Jones, Jimmy Haslam, Michael Bidwell or Woody Johnson?

To name a few?

Tldr: Probably

Not really, but I guess somebody will take a flier on him even though he's a New Mexican dwarf.

Being a part of the Heisman ceremony last night as a finalist was such an honor. As a competitor, just like in everything I do I wanted to win. To be so close to my dream and come up short was painful. I didn’t handle those emotions well at all and did not represent myself the way I wanted to. I have much love and respect for the Heisman voters and the selection process, and I apologize for being disrespectful. It was a mistake, and I am sorry. Fernando Mendoza is an elite competitor and a deserving winner of the award. I have nothing but respect for his accomplishments as well as the success that Jeremiyah and Julian had this season. I’ve been doubted my whole life. Every step of my journey I’ve had to break down doors and fight for myself, because Ive learned that nothing would be handed to me. My family has always been in my corner, and my teammates, coaches and staff have my six. I love them — I am grateful for them. — and I wouldn’t want anything to distract from that. I look forward to competing in front of my family and with my team one more time in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

We played at Clovis when I was in hs. The second we got off the bus you could just tell you were in a very different place, not in a good way. It's like the air was dead. The visitor locker room was unbelieably shitty and likely crawling with staph. We go out to warm up and the Clovis players were like a completely different species of human being. You could tell they had already done more manual labor than we would do in our whole lives and we were a blue collar team .Their teeth were all fucked up, and I swear they all had a look of hatred in their eyes, not just for us but just in general. They kicked the ever living shit out of us. Perfect example of a game that was over before it began.

I've driven through New Mexico a few times.  My trip to Philmont really stood out, particularily as a Westlake boy.  I don't know why my scoutmaster's got off the beaten path, but I guess they had their reasons, so we took an extra day or two working our way up to the ranch.

My Mom did research on the drug abuse community most of her life.  I often helped her in volunteer efforts in centex and thought I knew something about hard times and poverty.  I didn't know shit.  New Mexico is just built completely different.

Growing up in West Texas, I basically saw Clovis, Hobbs, Portales, and Lovington as extensions of West Texas with yellow license plates. All of them are still on the Llano Estacado. New Mexico, at least to me, doesn't really take hold until you cross the Pecos into Carlsbad or Roswell. And that meanness you describe seems characteristic of small towns across that region. Where'd you go to high school?

Be glad you never had to play in Española.  Other NM teams have to have police escorts in and out of town.  I'd hate to see what they would do to a Texas team.

CDC and I are contemporaries who grew up in the same area of NM.  We went to different high schools.  I'm sure our paths crossed, but I don't remember him and I'm sure he doesn't remember me.  It obviously shaped him into a strong person.  I think it did with me as well.  My sister and brother and I have reflected many times that it is amazing that none of us died in our teenage years, or fell off the tracks in many different ways, and have all become relatively productive members of society.

Well, except for my surly habit.  That's obviously counterproductive to a flourishing life.

I grew up in the southern part of the state, but sounds quite similar.  And when I go back now to visit family, it still seems to be stuck in the 80's.  Like...nothing has changed.  I can't imagine trying to raise a family there...

That's probably a best case scenario for this dude.

No doubt his financial advisor has been investing that sweet NIL cash wisely.  There's no way his family blew it all on bottle service, coke, and gold chains.

If Axe Body Spray was a group of people.....

This guy seems destined to be picked up by police in the next 5-7 years as a mid level cartel lieutenant. Coincidentally, he will be wearing the same suit.

Yeah, having his own dealership doesn't sound too bad.

This is actually beautifully written and would have made Hunter S. Thompson proud.

You are telling me he has no shot at the NFL?!

I am. I watched the SEC doc. You remember how his teammates said he didn’t practice, he just ran around yelling at other players? You can’t be a sub 6’ qb and hope to win NFL games with off schedule scramble drills

His Vandy NIL package is an estimated $2.1 mil, half of which is already gone in attorney's fees for his brothers.
