Lil’Jordan Humphrey

Well fuck me. Time for a 2nd cup of coffee. My irony-meter needs adjusting after 3 years of watching LJH here in Austin. I was so accustomed to his name & the backstory that Lil'Jordan just seemed normal. I honestly thought the Tweet author was trying to call him a ball of iron (which is an accurate description of how he plays).

Insert Alanis Morrisette pic here.

I doubt LJH or Kris Boyd have played yet. I expect them both to play a lot in the second half.

Did anyone see if my boy Andrew Beck did anything for NE yesterday?

For some reason, Boyd's name was on the "they won't be playing" list the Vikings released before the game.   Not sure why he was on it -- presumably some kind of injury-- but he'd been active in all the practices up to that point so it was a surprise he didn't play.

Really happy for this kid, man. He’s been taking a beating ever since he left. Fuck the drills. Let him play real football with pads on and he’ll show what he can do. He landed in a good situation. He can make an impact on a team in the NFL. Not getting drafted might have been a blessing in disguise.

LJ is just a baller, forget about practice, that play shows everything that makes him a special WR.

I'm really hoping he can keep getting chances in the other preseason games and end up on the roster in NOLA or somewhere else.

I could see him doing well with the Rams. He needs an offense with misdirection where the receivers are regularly schemed open. He's not going to excel in an offense that's based on timing and great route running.

Dude is a baller. Get him in the open field and he will excel. Don't give a fuck who he plays for.

 a bit more positive press...

Saints' rookie WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey feeling at home in Dome, but plenty more work to do

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome has been good to Lil'Jordan Humphrey so far this year.

The Saints' undrafted rookie receiver has played in the building twice.

The first time was in January when Texas played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

The second time was Friday night when he made his NFL debut in the Saints' preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

_________________________________________________

...But will the undrafted rookie receiver be able to make the Dome a permanent home by finding his way on the Saints' 53-man roster?

That remains to be seen, especially on a roster deep at receiver.

Humphrey made his 6-foot-4, 220-pound presence known in Friday's 34-25 loss though, especially on his 33-yard touchdown reception in the

fourth quarter. Lining up as the inside slot receiver, Humphrey reeled in a pass from Taysom HIll in the middle of the field at the 19-yard line,

eluded a defender at the 10 and stiff-armed Vikings' defensive back Marcus Epps at the 5 to score for the first time as a pro.

Very late on catching up with the thread. Didn't know Nawlins brought him to camp. He's gonna fill the role they were looking Dez to play. He's younger, stronger and less of a pain in the ass (for now). They've seen what he's got to give. LJH gonna make the roster.

Saints getting their asses kicked by the Chargers 17-3 right now as we head into halftime. LJH hasn’t played yet, I hope he gets some run in the second half. The fellow rookie who’s been making noise in camp, Butler, just dropped one.

Edited to add the game is on your local CBS affiliate. Cardale Jones has looked pretty good as the Charger QB.

Just watched Hill’s highschool highlights.  Pretty good film—— even though the music is Nickelback.
His BYU highlights are 23 minutes long so half is probably the Texas games and the other half is a minute each year he was at BYU.
The reason it's 23 minutes is because they used 10 minutes of video from his 40th birthday party in there

He has been in a few plays now. Just nothing his way. He did have a block on a hill run.

I saw him on the field quite a few plays down the final stretch. Couldn't really tell whether he was running good routes since he was usually off the screen at the snap. I don't know what if anything to make of the fact that he was never targeted. Is he still considered a long shot for the roster? Hoping he at least makes the practice squad.

Wide Receiver

Rishard Matthews retired earlier in the week, making him the second veteran wide receiver to exit a competition made up of mostly undrafted players under the age of 25. Cameron Meredith‘s release in the first week of camp helped simplify this competition and so does Matthews’ sudden exit. Most of the remaining contenders have clearly worked hard for a place on the Saints, making it difficult for coaches and observers to identify front-runners.

Simple math is the best way to find clarity here. New Orleans traditionally keeps five receivers but has kept a sixth in the past; usually a special teams contributor. Michael ThomasTed Ginn, and Tre’Quan Smith aren’t going anywhere. Keith Kirkwood and Austin Carr possess huge advantages having both spent at least a year in the Saints offense. That’s already five spots potentially filled.

Kirkwood appears to be safer than Carr considering he filled in for Thomas during his brief camp holdout. Early camp standout Emmanuel Butler also played a significant amount first-team reps this week after missing several practices due to injury. He might be Carr’s biggest competition right now, though they would play very different roles in the passing game.

Behind Butler, there’s still Cyril GraysonSimmie CobbsLil’Jordan HumphreyDeonte Harris and Travin Dural to consider. Grayson and Harris are also auditioning for the return specialist role, meaning they may actually be stronger candidates than Butler.

Fortunately, all of these players on the bubble are still practice squad eligible. With that in mind, expect New Orleans to keep their somewhat proven commodities in Kirkwood and Carr. Bank on the rest clearing waivers, which most likely will.
