The entire "Washington Football Team" is just SAF. I mean do people need to be reminded what sport? Why not just "Washington." Seems pretty obvious it is a team and it plays football ... this isn't the damn MLS.

I don’t understand why they didn’t go with Washington Football Club.  It’s got a bit of that soccer elan, while sounding old timey and different at the same time.  But again, the Snyder’s destroy everything they touch.

… and no one would have heard the name Dan Snyder had Jack Kent Cooke not fucked over his son by requiring sale of the Skins and their stadium.  Simply put, JKC’s will forced John Cooke to bid for the team and stadium … which he could not afford … and the descent to laughing stock was sealed.  Fuck Snyder.

Commanders is rumor to be the name

Lots of weird rumors are out there, I think intentionally to deflect. Changing the name and logo has been a hilariously legal shitshow from beginning to end.

Commanders would fail on the basic requirement to fit into the meter of HTTR.

Why the owners didn’t force him to sell to Bezos the way they made Jerry Richardson sell the panthers is just mystifying.  He’s a horrible owner with a dead franchise in a super valuable market.  He’s never going to be able to put together the things he needs to get a stadium in the city, because he’s an asshole, so they’ll eventually move it to the Northern Virginia exurbs.  Which will cost him the entire DC and Maryland fan base.

All I can come up with is the Owners who are actually in charge (Jerry, Rooney’s, Mara’s, and Kraft) like having a rotten corpse of a team with a weak owner.  And the Rooney’s, Jerry, and Mara’s have either a fan service or divisional interest in keeping the WFT weak af.

Bud, you ever try to join an exclusive country club or some shit?

The NFL is a club, the teams are the owners toys and lots of those bitches have a problem with Bezos

Yeah.  I guess Snyder is that d-bag with a bag full of Pro-vees and fancy clubs who thinks he can play, rarely breaks 100, and is an easy mark for prop bets on the course.

So Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians. Sound like teams from a crummy movie that couldn't secure NFL rights. (And yes, I know Guardians is beisbol.)

I'm sure I'll get used to it but... yuck.

Of course, we already have the Titans and Jaguars, which are goofy names with that same feel.

Just cheapskates that didn’t want to spend the money to secure the rights.

Joe Theisman dropped the “Commanders” name when talking to someone over the weekend. I don’t think he’s cerebral enough to be part of a misinformation campaign.

Theismann NEVER misses an opportunity to project himself into the spotlight … even if it’s only the 25W bulb shining on the name Commanders.

He’s the only former Skins player I’ve heard comment.  Mosley, Riggins, Charles Mann, Gary Clark, Brian Mitchell … even Dexter Manley are zipped up.  There have been a few roll of the eyes noted, though, when asked about the name.  Fuck Snyder.

I think it's fitting that an out of touch franchise that hasn't won shit since the 80s and 90s would make their big reveal on.... The Today Show.

I honestly didn't even know that fucking show still existed. The Washington PR people were probably looking around asking where Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley are.
