Seriously.  I'm white.  I haven't registered my car since 2020.  Guess who gives a fuck?

NOBODY!

I have one with a 2020 sticker, too.  Got pulled over once about a year ago on Mopac.  Got a warning.  My whiteness probably helped.

I've got two cars. One is an around-town beater (2005 Toyota) with plenty of bruises and scratches, and it's still got 2016 registration tags on it. My shiny "good car" on the other hand has 2019 tags.

Guess which one I was driving while moving across the state when I got pulled over for expired tags. And, now, guess who was astonished to only receive a warning for driving around with those 2016 tags. The cop actually laughed because he'd never seen overdue tags that old before.

Me. 🙋‍♂️ Yeah, this white guy.

(By the way, I did learn from him all DPS now have license plate readers that can tell them if your tags are out of date, even if they're just cruising along behind you.)

I could probably get away with it 'cuz I'm a whitey too - but I married a brown and we also have two half-browns driving the cars.

I have heard that as well. not sure if it's true, but sure seems like forcing probable cause to me

That might explain how he popped me.  He came up from behind and I was surprised he could see my sticker.  Maybe he didn't.

Abbot's order only applied to flags at state buildings.  He can't do shit about flags at ISDs, or the Boy Scouts, or any flag not being flown at a state building, no matter how much he wants to suck the orange man's tiny penis.  It's nothing new for our elected state officials to order the state government to ignore the law.

It was the reader. The DPS trooper said as much and that they were all recently being equipped with them. The way he pretty much described it was that the reader scans automatically when it's turned on and will alert him if it comes across an expired tag.

This was several months ago, so I'll just assume they're all outfitted with one by now. He also went on to say that some local jurisdictions (but not all) are starting to get them, too.

Like @Longhorn_Fan68 points out, it gives them probable cause to pull you over.

I’ve been pulled over for expired tags. Always get a ticket, I think it’s because I refused to give him a blow job. I’m white.

i’m kidding, not about the ticket. Maybe I need a police donation sticker.

Same.  I bought a new truck in 22 and haven't renewed my registration yet...and I won't.  Fuck 'em

I don't drink & drive and I'm white; I don't anticipate having any issues.

I've gotten a ticket in small town Texas every time. Sure fire way to get pulled over driving through Franklin.

Shifting gears, I am having trouble remembering the last thing Abbott accomplished that was good for Texans. I wonder if the House would agree toboassing govenor term limits. I bet if we could get it on the ballot it passes with ease.

Sure voters would agree to many issues on the ballot hence why only legislators can put a referendum on ballots.

So TX mainly imports energy related products from Canada.  Hotwheels is gonna shut that down?  That may not work out so well for the O&G people or the Texas economy as a whole.

Well they will probably look around to find other sources of cotton...you know for Canada's giant clothing manufacturing sector. I suspect we export our cotton to some other country which makes clothes and then ships it to Canada. So I think they will be fine.

I am glad Abbott has enough sense to show his loyalty to the Great Leader by talking shit to Canada and not the place we actually depend on trading with.

I'll admit, I'm no fashion maven, but I wear a shit ton of cheap cotton, and if I had to guess most of it came on a boat from somewhere in Asia.

Good point, Greg.

So they can shut down some of our refineries and raise gas prices for all Americans by selling their oil elsewhere and we can…make cotton a bit more expensive for them?   Thats the plan?

Most of Canada’s cotton imports come from  Turkey, they import very little from the US. Our Governor is a fucking ignorant moron about his own state

I was going to call him out on his twitter  post, but I couldn’t find it.  This may be fake.

FIF accuracy.

These retrograde morons want the world to revert to favoring entities with resource/resource extraction economies.  There's a pretty solid common thread about resource/resource extraction economies: they are 1) good for enriching a very small class of elites/barons/oligarchs who control the resource at issue (cotton, oil, silver mines, etc.) and 2) terrible for everyone else in that society, as they are relegated to the role of laboring peons working for a pittance "in the mines" etc.

The counterpart is a developed economy that has gotten away from relying on resource/resource extraction as its centerpiece, and adds dimensions of services and technological innovation, manufacturing, etc.  You know....EXACTLY what the American economy looked like when we were the "Great" of "Make America Great Again."  And.....Abbott and his butt buddies want to destroy that.

Dumbest.  Fucking.  Timeline.  Ever.

I liked his "we will continue to fully fund public schools."

Dude...you sick, lying fuck....you have to START "fully funding public schools" before you can CONTINUE to fully fund them.  We rank 41st in school funding per student, and teachers are paid $7,700 less than the national average.  That lying fuckface is an evil sonofabitch.

As part of the ptax relief, he wants 10billion to go toward it after both house and senate marked 1bn. Wants an extra 0 among friends. Additionally he wants any tax rate hikes requiring a vote to be approved by a 2/3rd super majority instead of simple 50% plus 1. Bc I guess the ppls vote matters, but only if it’s overwhelming

They are using the Oklahoma rules,  I only needed 51% of the vote this one time to get something passed in the future that will require 67% of the vote, since I know it will never happen.

Property tax relief hasnt happened in 30 years. Why? Because property values keep ascending, aided in part by the stimulus of lower property taxes. We would get property tax relief if we raised property tax rates while increasing homeowners exemptions.

For residential dwellings, families are fighting a losing battle with global investors. One way to tilt it a bit for homeowners is nail investors. Perhaps add landlord exemptions for longterm leases to residents.

On that first paragraph I could really get into the weeds on the feedback loop regarding slashing tax rates and the overinflating of commercial values. As well as the insanity of rates being set based on the certified roll before litigation is wrapped on values.

I'm honestly concerned he's going to parrot dear leader and start cutting state programs, agencies, etc.

Many are subsidized by Fed money so will hot 🔥 wheels make up for that shortfall? Fuck no.
