My friend is a lawyer for an insurance company. He said chiropractors are all quacks and they get easily torn apart when brought in to be “expert” witnesses.

I've been re-doing my front yard the past 1-2 months. Some of the holes I tried to dig were full of roots and it was a bitch hacking the roots using a shovel, saw and hatchet. This past weekend I tried a 1" wood bit on my drill. What would have been 5 minutes with a hatchet was reduced to 2 minutes with a drill without the hard work. Why didn't I think of it earlier?

I have my mom's cell phone to take care of things for her since she no longer can......fucking AT&T sends her about 20 text a month about her bill.....hey your bill will be renewing on 10 days.....hey two days ago we let you know your bill was going to renew in 10 days.....hey 4 days from now your bill will renew the day after that......hey tomorrow we will send you a text to remind you that your bill will be due the next day.....hey your bill renews tomorrow.......hey you just paid your bill!.....hey thanks for paying your bill we just sent you a text to let you know that your bill was paid.....hey you just paid your bill and a new one will be coming in 30 days or so and we will be sending you reminders

but you know who is more needy than those needy motherfuckers......fucking samsung.....these motherfuckers renew their terms of service about every fucking 36 hours.......every other day you look at your fucking phone there is the little icon that you hit to get some fucking "information" from samsung and it is always that they changed the terms of service agreement

these fuckheads could save me $5 a month if they either hired some competent lawyers that could write a terms of service agreement that last longer than 3 days or if they just said fuck it no one reads this bullshit and anyone suing us is going to fucking sue us anyways in spite of whatever bullshit we have in our terms of service so fuck them lets just keep one in place for at least a month

they must have an entire floor of some building somewhere full of fuckheads that write they body of these text or these notifications that then get blasted to all their fucking users

I need to start calling these sumsung fucks every time I get one an asking them what changed and how it impacts me and what I need to do about it and if there is anything I need to change (besides getting a new fucking phone)....maybe they will get tired of me and stop sending that stupid shit

I grew up watching those guys on WGN or some other local Chicago station.  Their TV show ended up becoming very commercialized and borderline silly.  But as my father used to point out to when I was young, their written columns were incredibly written.

Most people don't remember that Siskel was a Yale humanities graduate, wrote for the U.S. Army Defense Information School, and Playboy.  Quite a range.  His movie takes were often for shit, but he died before I really got into cinema anyway.  But I look back on his prose and style, and the man's writing and intellectual breakdown of the reflections of film on society were pretty damn impressive.  Ebert was a University of Chicago PhD candidate before he got into being a critic and writer.  Again, most Americans don't know that UoC is arguably the best school in the nation not in the Ivy League or named after Leyland, Jr.  Ebert had the better taste, or at least for me anyways.  He had a softer side than Siskel, and I always loved the way he understood fellow-Chicagoan, John Hughes.  He, too, could frame an argument on paper like very few (even won a Pulitzer).

The two of them could have been almost anything given their intellectual prowess, but they ended up embracing movies because of how they felt and believed it was the most contemporary reflection of America in their lifetimes.  More than journalism, TV, politics, music, art, religion, etc.  And they were absolutely correct, just ahead of their time.  And it didn't help they really cut their teeth/"get big" in the 1980's when American movies were at arguably their lowest point of cultural significance---and we were as a country overall at our lowest point culturally (until the last 8 years or so).  And their show was stylized to pit them against one another and a glorified trailer for major studios.  But my father called maybe 10 people smart in my whole life, and he considered Roger Ebert to be absolutely brilliant (primarily off camera, and they met a few times in real life).

Americans consider high cinema to be the newest Larry the Cable Guy picture or Deuce Bigalow prequel.  Siskel and Ebert saw this dumbing-down of America with movies being a leading indicator.  The harbingers of our demise.  But yeah, to your point---they missed quite frequently.  But their niche was and is remains quite unique.  I kinda miss 'em.

What I dug about Ebert, aside from the brilliance of most of his commentary, was that I could tell whether I'd like a movie or not based on his description of it, entirely separately from whether HE liked it or not.

Also, he was into tits movies.

Mac is supposed to be easier and far superior.  Thought I was missing out all this time.  I’d like to go back to pc

"Mac is easier" was true in, like, the early 90s or something, I guess? I think the two are more or less the same now in terms of security and reliability. You can get much neater hardware with Windows and work with more things; Apple only works well if you buy EVERYTHING Apple, from your phone to your internet to your "iCloud" sub etc.

My Mac experiment was about 20 years. Switched back to PC a few years back because I wanted a computer with a touchscreen -- an actual computer, not an iPad.

Been a Mac dude for about 12 years. Client mandated I move back to PC. Yeah, its easier. So now I use my mac to stream sports and watch porn.

But relearning a new system sucks ass. And agree about Iphone and Ipad. Lenovo tablet they gave me I use for PUBG when bored.

I was a PC geek 20 years ago, because it was cheaper and allowed tinkering and such.  I was convinced I 'hated macs' due to limited exposure being the turrible expose to the turrible PowerPC era macs at the school libraries.

I can BoTH sIDeZ the thing because since then I've used Apple and non-apple stuff simultaneously, back and forth, with computers, phones, and all the other consumer electronic categories.  Pretty much *all* the Apple products have so much more polish on them that it's worth any price delta.  It seems they have a consistent organizational push to emphasize robust UI in design and implementation.

I experienced this recently for the first time in ages. Driving back from West Texas late December I got the headlight flash so I slowed down a good bit... sure enough ~1/2 mile down the road was a State Trooper parked by the road just waiting.

I don't take nearly as many road trips as I did 25-30 years ago, but I feel like I saw it regularly back then vs. rarely these days.

I suspect that it's more of a process and greater effort to flash high beams on and off in modern cars, and the actual flashing isn't as instantaneous with modern headlights. Plus, they're all already super goddamn needlessly bright in the first place, so who can tell anyway?

It's not so much "Both Sides" as it is a bunch of trade-offs, many of which have changed over time. Windows got better at being secure (on purpose); Mac got worse at being reliable (not on purpose) and working out of the box with third party stuff (on purpose).

The big thing for me over the past two decades is I've gone from using Windows/Linux for work and Apple for home to using Apple for work and Windows/Linux for home. (To wit, if you're running a recent version of Win 10 or 11, you've got Linux in there, too.)

New excuse for sexual assault just dropped: "I was too drunk so it wasn't really my fault"

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/39335047/alves-says-was-drunk-night-alleged-sexual-assault

Quote

Former Brazil international Dani Alves said for the first time that he was drunk on the night he is accused of committing sexual assault, judicial sources have confirmed to the news agency EFE.

It is the fifth time Alves has changed his story since he was arrested last January on charges of sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona on Dec. 30, 2022.

Alves' lawyer, Inés Guardiola, has argued that the level of Alves' intoxication impaired his cognitive ability and left him unaware of his actions.

If accepted as a mitigating factor when the case goes to court in February, it could lead to a reduced sentence in the case of a conviction.

(btw hes not been getting away with it for being an athete... hes been held in jail since the arrest)

Would you rather have:

- Great queso with mediocre chips

Or

- Great chips with mediocre queso

I'm eating meh queso right now but the chips are really good and it's led me to believe that the quality of the chip is slightly more important.

For me it's the chips. A really fantastic chip you can eat on it's own, even IMO.

I've had this thought for years every time I eat at Mi Cocina's-- how they can have such crappy chips?

Right. And I think the delta between meh queso and great queso isn't as large as between meh chips and great chips. Great tortilla chips are really fucking good and bad ones are basically inedible for me.

Why do recipe websites have more popups than porn sites? It’s so aggravating with all that shit on the side and bottom of your phone.

Ran across one today where I had to navigate through adds above, to the right, and in the middle of her pages long dissertation about how these burgers changed her grandmothers life or some shit only to get to the recipe section AND THE BITCH REQUIRED ME TO REGISTER TO HER NEWSLETTER TO SEE IT. Fucking bullshit

As a man whats more humiliating: asking for direction in public, or taking multiple trips to bring in the groceries?

Neither. Part of being a mature man means realizing that doing either does not affect your value or place in the world.
