It is good and I'm not complaining, but we still don't have a true nose outside of Sydir Mitchell, who is 30 lbs lighter than Sweat and doesn't have half the motor. Wish we could find a large body to clog the middle.

Did you want Oatis for NT? Oatis is the same size as Alfred Collins.

At 320 with time to go Collins could be fine as the big guy. You don’t have to go 350 like Sweat (and probably shouldn’t) to do that job.

I like the current times when our worries are, "But what if our nose guard is only a 320 pound NFL prospect and not a 360 pound Outland Trophy winner?  We might only be ranked preseason number 2 in the country instead of preseason number 1 if this isn't fixed immediately!"

Versus a few years ago:

"Look, all we need to have happen this offseason is for Swoopes to get a lot better at QB, Shawn Watson to completely change his offensive scheme and get a lot better at OC, a few of our lightly recruited 3 star true freshmen come in ready to start on the OL, Dylan Haines needs to surprise some people at safety, Breckyn Hager needs to gain 30 pounds of muscle, stop having games where we lose because 3 kicks get blocked, stop having games we lose because we mess up the coin toss and give the other team the ball both halves, stop losing games because we punt to the other team when we don't have enough timeouts to stop the clock, hire an assistant to be the "gameday" coach so Charlie Strong can focus on other things, maybe hire an actual athletic director this year instead of trying year 3 of an alum doing it on an interim fill-in basis like when one of the other parents has to cover a little league game, try to complete all assistant hires this year without requiring the President of the University to fly to some nobody from Tulsa's house and beg him at his front door to work for us, figure out how to replace the 10 guys we kicked off the team for weed, ... and figure out how to feature our playmakers, like Jake Oliver and Kyle Porter."

I remember everything else too well, but not this one...

Agree. Broughton was grossly underdeveloped coming out of high school. I'll never forget that twitter video of him working out on a Planet Fitness machine. Good grief it was pathetic. Not sure he knew what a squat or power clean was at that juncture.

For all the talk around here of college S&C programs, there have been decent programs in high schools for decades. Not equivalent to current state of the art D1, but just hitting the basic lifts usually yields impressive results in kids that age. Broughton was a marshmellow. Consecutive seasons of a good training program should add incremental improvement each year. Hoping Torre Becton earns his check this offseason with all our DLs. And for Collins and Broughton, they have the added incentive of it being a contract year.

Im not saying Broughton didnt get blown up in the run game this year, like he did on a consistent basis last season.

But , it had to happen less, a lot less, or there would have been screams of bloody murder from the hole he was creating in the run D.

And thats improvment, which i know we all hope he can and will build on going into next dlseason.

Nobody saw Sweat stepping up like he did. I know Broughton doesn't have the same raw physical  gifts Sweat does. But i think he has enough that we will all be pleased if he has a similar developmental improvement that he had this last season.

And i think thats the longest post ive made in years.

Sweat's athleticism at that weight was insane. Few could carry that much so well. Collins is currently listed at 317 lbs and Broughton at 291 lbs, and both could probably benefit by whatever they're able to add this offseason.

This was a decade ago, not a few years, we are officially at the 10 year anniversary of Chuckles becoming head coach at Texas.

I’ve read that they should be able to easily add 20 lbs of muscle over the summer.

Good lord. I still remember going to the spring game a few months later and telling a friend after that we wouldn't be really good again for a long time (pre-portal). I didn't think it would be 10 years.

Yep. And the Tom Herman years weren’t really all that bad. I mean- it wasn’t great but 32-18 and ranked 3 of the 4 years and winning all 4 bowls including one vs Georgia was sort of minimum level performance of someone almost competent at UT. Basically about what Mack Brown did post 2010 losing season.  Frustrating and not to standard but not the fiasco from Chucklefuck Strong.

That's what you get with a good offensive coordinator. Herman was a good offensive coordinator. Your floor is pretty high when you're guaranteed a good coordinator on one side of the ball.

The same applies to Sark. When is the last time Sark had an adjusted offense outside the top 35 range? It's been a long time.

The difference is Sark is a better recruiter and PK is a much better DC than anybody Herman hired. So the ceiling is higher.

At least Coach Sark isn't kissing the players.

ANOTHER PAINFUL MEMORY WAS WHEN ROSE MISSED THE PAT AGAINST CAL. YOU GUYS REMEMBER THATT?? Huhhhhhh????

What about that time Colt got inexplicably hurt in the national championship game, Squints had five turnovers, Mack Brown didn’t retire, and Texas wandered the proverbial college football desert for 13 seasons.

Man, so many good times in that span.

Squints actually performed admirably under the circumstances, but Mack should have had Sherrod Harris prepared, but hardly played him at all during the season.

Wait a second, how did I get baited into this sadomasochistic bullshit?

You guys!

Not really. He played like shit.  Hit two passes when Shipley was wide ass open that I could have made.  Squints was bad that night.
