Notable quotes:

All three companies were founded by entrepreneurs who have been major political supporters of Trump. Musk has donated more than a quarter of a billion dollars to help elect Trump, and now serves as a special adviser to the president working to cut government spending through his Department of Government Efficiency.

*****

One of the sources familiar with the talks described them as "a departure from the usual acquisition process. There's an attitude that the national security and defense community has to be sensitive and deferential to Elon Musk because of his role in the government."

*****

In an unusual twist, SpaceX has proposed setting up its role in Golden Dome as a "subscription service" in which the government would pay for access to the technology, rather than own the system outright.

The subscription model, which has not been previously reported, could skirt some Pentagon procurement protocols allowing the system to be rolled out faster, the two sources said. While the approach would not violate any rules, the government may then be locked into a subscription and lose control over its ongoing development and pricing, they added.

We the People, wouldn't actually own this weapons system flying around above us. So, what happens if we decide to cancel our subscription, and are we sure they won't target us again?

He’ll lie about his earnings. I mean, who’s going to do anything about it.

They're already "missing" $1.4B, and no one seems to care. In normal times it would be a huge scandal.

He can lie all he wants, but the analysts are looking at the unit sales and are not happy. It's continuing to drop, and that little bump up to 290 a month or so ago is going to be remembered fondly by the time summer rolls around.

I'm guessing he will double down on his Optimus is worth $10 trillion or whatever he said at his recent all hands, then sprinkles in some AI and maybe some inroads into Indian markets.  Cybertruck wasn't mentioned once in his last earnings call, I'd be surprised if they talk about cars at all during this one.  Maybe they'll talk a little about the refreshed model y and how sales dipped as they stopped the assembly line for a bit.  Bitcoin won't save them this quarter, but maybe some other bullshit promise will.

KXAN Austin weather: NWS Austin head of warnings takes early retirement as NOAA cuts continue

Quote

Paul Yura, the warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio office, has announced he has taken the early retirement offer as part of NOAA’s recent cuts to personnel and budget.

Yura has over 32 years experience, spending more than half of his career at the NWS Austin/San Antonio office. In the process, he gained tremendous experience understanding local weather patterns while ensuring timely warnings get disseminated to the public in a multitude of ways.

Quote

The warning coordination meteorologist (WCM) is a senior role at a local NWS office. According to NOAA, “The WCM coordinates the warning function of the office with the outside world. This would include heading the Skywarn Program, conducting spotter training and being a voice to the local media for the office.”

Only the ‘meteorologist in charge’ (MIC) has a higher position within a local office.

Quote

Yura’s retirement is part of an early retirement package offered to National Weather Service employees as the Trump Administration works to slash the budget at NWS and the larger NOAA organization.

In an e-mailed message to media partners, Yura said, “I cannot have asked for a more rewarding career that has spanned over 32 years, with over half of that career right here in South Central Texas as the WCM for the NWS Austin-San Antonio office.  And while I am sad that it is ending a few years earlier than I had planned, the friendships and relationships that I have made while being your WCM cannot be replaced.”

Quote

As for a replacement to the WCM, the current hiring freeze, as mentioned by Yura in his message, may make filling that role more challenging.

This comes less than a week after several Regional Climate Center’s across the county had their funding “lapse” even though they were restarted again on Monday.

Quote

According to the NWS Austin/San Antonio website, the office is already short two meteorologist positions currently listed as vacant. The positions of ‘lead meteorologist’ and ‘meteorologist’ remain open. Separately, NWS Austin/San Antonio have a vacant ‘electronics technician’ position.

Dude looks stoned to the bejeezus belt.

Because he is.

And again I wonder how a man so rich and interesting can me so miserable.  He has the means to hang out with the literally cooled people on the planet. Hike mountains.  Bang Surly 10’s.  And all he does is yearn for the admiration of assholes.  I sincerely feel bad for him.

I would be out there rollin' in my 5.0, with my rag-top down so my hair can blow, with the girlies on standby, waving just to say "Hi".

Probably head on down to A1A Beachfront Avenue.

What they need is therapy and some proper mental health care.

There are plenty of other billionaires that are perfectly content banging 10's and living on a yacht somewhere because either they had a normal childhood and/or don't have any mental health issues.

It's because we post on Surly, as well as bang 10's on our yachts.

A. This mother fucker isn’t interesting

B. All these PayPal mafia assholes are miserable. And they want the rest of society to be as miserable as them.

Why are they miserable? Because they don’t know how to be happy. They haven’t been happy a day in their lives. Their fathers never loved them, they never were shown what it’s like to be a real man. They only understand materialism, and while that has its moments, it doesn’t bring you real happiness.

These guys were shipped off to boarding schools and rarely saw their parents. Or their dads let the bullies beat them senseless to toughen them up. Or they were just given everything to make them happy in absence of real love. Etc.

Clearly Elon didn’t even learn how materialism could make him happy as a kid (despite his parent’s diamond mine), because he doesn’t do any of that materialistic stuff. He probably was leader of the dork squad in school and that’s what he knows.

It’s sad, but fuck him. With the pain and misery he subjects everyone to, both before and after getting involved in his doggy crap, he can eat shit. I wish he would take his misery and lock himself in a hotel room and play video games to his literal unwashed masses and just vanish from public life. Maybe one day one of his peons will call for a wellness check because he stroked out on his live stream ( of if we are really lucky it won’t happen on a live stream and he won’t be found for a month or so).

Great post and I would love to respond to each point, but the Internet service on my yacht is shit and I’m not getting fucking Starlink. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some onshore WiFi when we pull into Aruba.
