it's wild to me what is considered "liberal" these days. pretty much anything left of the kkk, it seems

I just like to differentiate between what's considered "liberal" in America vs. what an actual leftist is. Liberals in American can be as right wing as conservatives about many things.

This is just cope and demonstrably untrue. She was fairly popular among Democrats until the Assad/Russia shit came up during the 2020 presidential campaigns and Hillary started going after her hard. Even after that she was pretty heavily defended by mainstream media and a lot of mainstream Democrats. Shit started going downhill for her and it culminated in her not being invited to the 2020 DNC which I'm sure is what started her off on the path to leaving the party.

Here not so much but she was quite popular among Dems for a time, especially circa 2020 when she was mostly falling in line.

Sad but true. She even served as a co chair of the DNC for a time.

I try not to laugh hysterically whenever I hear a Clinton referred to as liberal.

Needs to be noted that it’s almost cliche in intelligence studies that the Soviet collection and analysis apparatus was incredibly effective and good and then it all got filtered for ideological purity and became worthless.

Ideology or Trumpology?  I have a tough time calling anything Trump/MAGA subscribe to as an ideology.  I guess ideologies don't have to be consistent or coherent.

I never met a Tulsi fan who wasn't a weird, contrarian, closeted libertarian. I don't know how anyone back in the 2020 primary could've listened to her speak for more than three minutes and think to themselves "wow, she's presidential." The least surprising thing was her leaving the party.

I say this as someone who hates the Democratic party. She's one of the few people for whom the party, which is good for nothing, is too good for.

Few ideologies really are. There has emerged one on the foreign policy front: neo-isolationism militarily, neo-mercantilism economically, and a willingness to use diplomatic tools to advance right-wing populism and nationalism in the Western world, transactional everywhere else.

Its not one that he will apply coherently or that he formed, but that is what coalesced among his viziers.

I am aware that Haspel soft-pedaled Russian intelligence to Trump because he'd get pissed when it pertained to election and cultural interference here or elsewhere.  And then Haspel, in turn, roasted Russia House regularly.

I'm reading a spy novel where a political Director and DDO are feeding a Russian double agent's Intel to the White House, where it is loved.  And the double agent is also running a mole in the CIA, whose identity has yet to be revealed.  I'm going with the DDO, but that may be too obvious.

And we all know what an estimable position that is, a sure sign of a rising star within the party.

I had to Google it. The current chair of the DNC is Ken Martin. First I’ve heard of him. I’ve heard more about vice chair David Hogg whose name is well known but I’d say he’s far from being a rising star in the party and his political future is uncertain.

You could find supporters of anyone in the Democratic Party including Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. I’m not sure Tulsi ever had more going for her than that she wasn’t a constant thorn in the side of the party’s policy agenda like they were.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Like, I cannot fucking stand Tulsi, but the revisionist history comparing her to some random DNC chair you've never heard of is insane.

She was the first woman combat veteran to run for President and was initially seen/presented herself as a progressive, anti-war, populist candidate. She got the most online engagement of any candidate in the debates she participated in. She was even presenting herself as anti-cop by going after Kamala Harris' record as a prosecutor (which, truth be told, is probably the most commendable thing she ever did).

Obviously her carefully crafted image turned out to be bullshit. She's nothing more than a political opportunist, and she's a weird cult member who is likely some level of Russian asset, but she had a fair amount of momentum in the very beginning before the greater Democrat apparatus quickly turned against her after Hillary Clinton started shitting on her, and even then a bunch of prominent Democrats were defending her all over mainstream news. She was also getting glazed up a bunch by Joe Rogan which only helped her popularity.

Wow, so many misogynists in there.

Dems are so terrible at weaponizing government.  Tulsi should have been booted from the Guard and had security clearances removed. It would have happened to any other 05 who acted like she did. And it would have maybe been enough to keep her from being DNI.

It was her political activities that saved her because Biden and Co were terrified to be seen as “weaponizing” government so the more of a loudmouth political asshole you were, the safer you were.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-05-15/trump-wants-apple-to-stop-moving-iphone-production-to-india

Quote

President Donald Trump said he’s asked Apple Inc.’s Tim Cook to stop building plants in India to make devices for the US, pushing the iPhone maker to add domestic production as it pivots away from China.

“I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday,” Trump said of his conversation with Apple’s chief executive officer in Qatar, where he’s on a state visit. “He is building all over India. I don’t want you building in India.” As a result of their discussion, Trump said Apple will be “upping their production in the United States.”

Apple representatives in India did not respond to a request for comment.

Quote

Trump’s comments threaten to throw a wrench into Apple’s plan to import most of the iPhones it sells in the US from India by the end of next year, accelerating a shift beyond China to mitigate risks related to tariffs and geopolitical tensions. Apple makes most of its iPhones in China and has no smartphone production in the US — though it’s promised to hire more workers at home and pledged to spend $500 billion domestically over the next four years.

Building iPhones from scratch in the US will be extremely difficult even for cash-rich Apple. The supply chain for iPhones and skilled labor for a such a precisely engineered product have been concentrated in China for years, and Apple’s only just started forging local partnerships in India. Expensive American labor and manufacturing also makes iPhone production in the US untenable. India, on the other hand, is one of Apple’s fastest-growing markets with a vast customer base that aspires to buy its iconic products. The country also has state subsidies to help it expand assembly.

Quote

“This is a familiar Trump tactic: He wants to push Apple to localize more and build a supply chain in the US, which is not going to happen overnight,” said Tarun Pathak, research director at tech analytics firm Counterpoint. “Making in the US will also be much more expensive than assembling iPhones in India.”

Apple and its suppliers have accelerated a shift away from the world’s No. 2 economy, a process that began when harsh Covid lockdowns hurt production at its largest plant. Tariffs introduced by Trump as well as Beijing-Washington tensions prompted Apple to amplify that effort.

Spoiler

The iPhone facilities in India produce more than 40 million units per year, about 20% of Apple’s annual output. While Trump has pushed Apple to make iPhones in the US, the lack of domestic engineering and manufacturing talent will make that nearly impossible in the short run.

Apple “has one of the most sophisticated supply chains built out over years,” Pathak said. “To disrupt that or to completely move out of India or China will be extremely difficult.”

Trump’s comments suggest he’s fine with Apple building its products in India for that market. “You can build in India if you want, to take care of India,” he said.
Trump also discussed tariff negotiations with India, saying the South Asian country has made an offer to drop import taxes on US goods. India has one of the highest tariff barriers in the world and it’s very hard to sell American products in the planet’s most populous country, Trump said.

The bulk of India-made iPhones are assembled at Foxconn Technology Group’s factory in southern India. Tata Group’s electronics manufacturing arm, which bought Wistron Corp.’s local business and runs Pegatron Corp.’s operations in India, is another key supplier. Tata and Foxconn are also building new plants and adding production capacity in southern India, Bloomberg News reported previously.

Apple assembled $22 billion worth of iPhones in India in the 12 months through March, increasing production by nearly 60% over the previous year.

Trump is following the autocrat playbook of pressuring businesses to produce his political promises against the benefit of the company, its shareholders, employees and customers.

It's also very telling how much he loves to kiss autocrats' asses and slams democratically elected leaders. Add to the fact that he was complaining to Hannity that he needed a new plane because ours (AF1) looked so bad when compared to the planes of the leaders of UAE, SA and Qatar. WTF man. What a tiny man that he values American power by the gold plated faucets on his plane compares to others.

I’m heard someone say that, on top of everything else, it would be cheaper to just build a new plane than it would be to take that plane apart and put it back together. Which is what they would have to do if the potus is going to be flying in it. It’s all just so stupid.
