The scary part of that rant is that I'm pretty sure that's what his aides were able to edit it down to.  What he dictated was almost certainly several levels crazier.

That guy's gonna normalize getting his ass kicked.

Edit: looking at some of his other stuff, it appears to be satire.  But god damn it's hard to tell these days.

Serious question, which I'm sure doesn't have a serious answer: How is Calibri a "diversity move"? Is that font DEI?

In theory, Calibri is easier to read for those that have difficulty reading, because it is sans-serif.  They also increased the default font size.

https://www.section508.gov/develop/fonts-typography/

So, the switch was intended to help those with low vision or reading disabilities, which probably is part of the "inclusion" part of DEI.

The switch back may make it more difficult for some people to read government docs, so Rubio is saying let's do that.

Healthy people definitely have to take cognitive tests every week.  That's totally normal.  Nothing to see here at all.

With any luck, that'll be because he's been dead for about three years.

Surely that United executive that begged for the shutdown to end will be right back at the white house demanding this to stop

That's the initial pain from this proposal.

But I think bigger picture, this a signal that they want to encourage all immigrants or even US born citizens with non-"American" backgrounds to move out.  You have brothers/sisters/mothers/fathers/aunts/uncles that live overseas? They want to make it as stressful as possible for these people to visit the U.S., to the point that people decide it's not worth living here anymore and move to back to their "homeland" or something. They don't care where, just get the fuck out.

White nationalist bullshit.

Is the new right wing vision of the US to be some kind of autarkic pariah state? The new North Korea?

It's crazy. I am starting to understand just normal enforcement of our immigration policies is considered "open borders" to them. Just allowing anybody to enter the country at all is bad I guess.

He’s fucking terrified of The NY Times for some reason.  Really terrified.  He’s trying to get somebody to do something about them.

Wonder what they know and if they’ll wait to share it until he’s out of office.

Gonna put this here, although it could go a number of places.  A look at the "National Security Strategy."

https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-situation--why-did-the-white-house-write-this-national-security-strategy

Note here that the document is not defining “border security” as an important element of U.S. security or as one of the most significant elements of it. It is defining it as the single primary element of American security.

* * *

I am willing to entertain the notion that the last several administrations may have underestimated the American people’s desire for a secure border. But to put the issue of border security as the top objective in one’s national security strategy is a kind of a nativist madness that is more about cultural—and let’s be honest, racial—anxiety about immigration than it is about any tangible security threat.

To call border security the primary element of national security, after all, you have to believe that controlling and limiting migration is more important to American security than, say, maintaining a  functional and effective nuclear deterrence; having a military capable of protecting American interests at home and abroad, and stopping or deterring Russian and Chinese predations on allies. You have to believe it’s more important than having a coherent approach to protecting American critical infrastructure and cybersecurity and more important than stopping major terrorist operations.

Note that in this paragraph, the security concern is not any worry about activity that might attend uncontrolled migration—the terrorism, drugs, espionage, and human trafficking are almost after-thoughts in the paragraph. The threat is the migration itself. And the stakes? They are total. “A border controlled by the will of the American people as implemented by their government is fundamental to the survival of the United States as a sovereign republic,” the document warns darkly.

“Americans must learn to adjust to a lower standard of living.”

Did Trump really say this at that rally last night?

https://www.salon.com/2025/12/10/trumps-return-to-maga-rallies-is-a-flop/

This may actually be true in some sense, but the motherfucker sure didn't run on it.

And, if we're going to have austerity, I sure as fuck want a more coherent economic policy in place while we suffer.  Preferably one that gives corporate America a nice case of hemhorroids.

That is the final nail in American tourism coffin.

And which cities benefit the most from tourism?  NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Denver.  All liberal.  That's all he sees -- a chance to hurt his enemies.

Nevermind all the mom & pop restaurants that will also suffer, etc.  They can pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Fuck this place.  Just pull the plug.

Rick Wilson weighs in on last night's Trump Rally:

Trump's Hot Mess Rally

The Fyre Festival of Affordability Tours Begins

https://www.againstallenemies.net/p/trumps-hot-mess-rally?r=3agz2m&utm_medium=ios&triedRedirect=true

Quote

What you actually saw was a freshly botoxed and be-Spanxed Trump, his greasy umber makeup applied with the subtlety of a 1970s hooker, his shellacked, lemur-pelt wig swooping back from his porcine eyes like an Art Deco-era car’s fenders stalking on stage and leaning on the podium for 90 minutes of madness.

-----

Even among the faithful, he couldn’t convincingly sustain the Big Lie of 2025; standing in front of a lot of people who aren’t OK, insisting that everything is fine and that if your grocery bill hurts, it’s basically a hoax is not an approach from a rational human.

That’s not a reset. That’s a gaslighting goon with a piddle bag strapped to its draggy leg.

And because it’s Trump, the “economic” message very quickly became the old, ugly standby: if you’re struggling, blame immigrants, Black Democrats, and whoever Fox had on blast in the A-block for Frau Ingraham’s White Power Hour last night. (“Immigrants are taking 100% of jobs!” “Shitholes!”)

Lulz.

Lack of character limits has really hurt his ability to penetrate social consciousness because no one wants to read walls of unformatted texts. The semi-correct placement of quotes around “aura” to signify its use in the pop-culture lingo sense was jarring here TBH.

The entire NSS is a shift from viewing strategic interests in a long-term national lens to viewing the survival and expansion of Trumpian populism internally and externally as the overarching strategic imperative.

For analysis on the NSS I would slightly caution seeking out lawyers or law blogs. The apparatus has long been (IMO) over-lawyered especially as ossification set in. One of the hallmarks of the new set is a pretty firm rejection of legally influenced thinking.

Despite its name, Lawfare actually has very few lawyers and at least half of its content is security related.  It and justsecurity are complementary reading.
