But they don’t understand that loyalty is a one way street to Trump. Loyalty, or fealty, to him is the expectation but it won’t be reciprocated unless by happenstance and only for as long as it serves him to be so.

He and every other personality disorder walking around in the wild. Let’s not pretend for a minute that he is sane. America has been taken hostage by a psychopath.

For what it's worth, my dad has 50% disability, and none of it has to due with any combat injury.  It's likely Agent Orange in Vietnam and/or exposure to contaminated water in Camp Lejeune in the 1980s (he's actually getting a settlement for the latter in the near future, unless Donald fucks with that as well).  He's had various health issues since his 50s, including cancer in 2020.

Same with my dad.  Squamous cell carcinoma a few years ago, and is currently being worked up for Parkinson's.

BTW, his job in Nam?  Supply Specialist.

Well, there may be a progressive Charles Guiteau out there somewhere, I think Trump and Company should be more worried about ex-military and proud boy/militia type supporters being fired from their jobs and losing their homes and prescription benefits, etc.

They seem to have shorter fuses mentally, and a greater propensity to do things like storm the capital and such.   And of course they like to talk about their second amendment “options”.   If I ever get the pleasure to open up my 21 year-old Sherry barrel aged scotch that I’ve saved up for the moment I hear of Trump’s death, I think the odds are it will be one of his former voters that is the assassin.

When tfg posted his "a mine how saves his country breaks no law" quote a day or two ago, the first thing I thought of were the CIA/FBI/etc folks with special skills that will inevitably be let go.  Sure, there are plenty who have plenty to live for.  But all it takes is one triggered person to change history.

It’s really as simple as this: MAGA voters have a very self-centered view of the world and they approach politics as folk religion. They behave (without realizing it) as if Trump is omniscient and entirely aligned to their own individualized value system. But he’s also distracted and he fucks up sometimes. So you have to tweet at him (read: pray) to get him to correct his inadvertent mistakes, where he accidentally used his infinite powers to fuck over those he always intended to protect.

It’s the lowest form of religious practice. And it’s how a significant part of the voting public in the most powerful nation in history view politics.

astute.

I'm hearing a handful of anecdotes, that hopeful folks are sharing ad nauseam, about how people are regretting their votes for Trump.

But this is the reality.

The majority is happy with this.

We're so fucked.

Yep. And even those who are temporarily upset, they will probably return to him.

Even those who are upset, they aren't upset With Him. Like the North Koreans who blame the damn Americans every time there's a food shortage or power outage, rather than the numbskulls who are actually running the country into the ground, they are forever on his team.

That poll was taken on January 29th. I'd imagine as more and more Americans are directly impacted by the chaos, that will change. Rural Republicans are just now waking up to discover they are going to be hit hard by the changes being made.

His polling numbers are actually quite volatile and that is now really old news.

Exhibit A.

I’m not hopeful but I could become hopeful if enough damage is done. The premise “it’s the economy stupid” will continue to be paramount and if he over does it and the economy tanks we have a chance. But there is no way out unless there is pain, probably a lot of pain. No chance at all for limited pain.

Sleep apnea will get you 50% disability.

Brother’s got the sads, ptsd, significant shoulder arthritis, ED (or at least the army believes he does), sleep apnea, etc.

Finally got to that 100%.
Worked hard at it too. Lesser individuals would have folded but he pressed on.

Smart in my book. Lives in Missouri, Property taxes frozen, kids go to college for free, and he gets a handicap parking space.

Did he work the system? Yes. Did he almost off himself? Yes. Did he use that experience to get legislation passed in his home state to help other veterans not get to his point. Yes.

So all in all I have to think he’s a wash as far as karma goes.

If I had a dollar for every buff gym bro with a lifted F250 or Jeep Gladiator that has DV plates on it, my bank account would probably be getting audited by DOGE right now. Must be nice getting that sweet paycheck every month for life for dealing with stuff that 75% of Americans have.

This is a far cry from Army of One and Be all you can be…. But also pretty on point

.Why not eventually get paid for your almost assured PTSD and depression that you’ll deal with in your life?

Huh? I won't make light of PTSD. But I know a shit ton of vets, most combat arms, who are doing fine. My experiences are not under the guise of DOD, but I will put my record in shitty places with bombs and guns up against almost anyone. Some days suck. Woudl rather have my situation than the average HS teacher's.

Depression? Again, have lost plenty of friends to the big S. If there is an issue it is the military is not, and does not want to deal with it.

Got a buddy here in town. we watch football. Got out as a Sgt. Major. Armored Cav. Bosnia, Iraq, etc.

100%. He gets more horse pills than he can take.

I have no issues with vets getting paid. If we want to save money on disability payments we should stop sending our people overseas on military misadventures.

I've known several people that gamed the system and more that endured some serious shit. Pay them all.

Getting compensated for PTSD >>>> than dealing with it for free

That was my shitty joke.

Q: why did Augusta National fail to offer President Trump a membership?

Let’s follow the logic here…

Augusta doesn’t want black or brown people.

Trump is a piece of shit.

Shit is brown.

Ergo, Augusta doesn’t want Trump.

One of my guys at work is supposed to get the Lejune settlement. He's all about some Trump, I'm 100% going to needle him if he doesn't get it after all.

Sadly, my dad is a Trumper.  My mom hates him, and abandoned the Republican party during the G.W. Bush era and is a full-fledged Dem.  I made a passing comment to her yesterday about the possibility of Trump/Musk pausing or canceling the Lejeune settlement payments, but I don't think she relayed that to my dad.  I love my dad because, well . . . he's my dad.  But I've learned to just not talk politics with him anymore.

What does Col. Dad think about Trump calling him a dope, baby, and loser?

He probably thinks Trump was only talking about a limited number of veterans that don't include him.  He's also going on 81 and losing his mental faculties.

Luckily both of my parents are liberal. But I think we're getting to the point where I'd cut ties with a close family member if they were still maga in 2025. The door would be open if they came to their senses, but I wouldn't contact them. I have already cut ties with friends and extended family that post maga shit on FB. That reminds me, I should delete my account.

largest employer in alabama, the federal govt

According to this NPR article (I heard it on the radio earlier this week), the University of Alabama at Birmingham is the state's largest employer. Link

Maybe they were referring to the University of Alabama system, but UAB alone apparently does a shitton of biomedical research, and last year alone it received $330 million in funding from NIH.  And guess what?  UAB could lose millions from Trump/Musk's NIH funding cuts, which would result in loss of several jobs at UAB, not to mention the ripple effects on the local economy.

FAAFO, you dipshits.

It's shocking how stupid and gullible most of this country is.

The right wingers on Facebook are cheering DOGE on.  They have no idea what's actually happening.  They believe whatever they're told, and further, those who don't are the idiots.

It's completely predictable, yet still astonishing to watch.

I mean, their adoration for this guy is full-on religious.  They believe whatever he says as if he's infallible.  They defend his words in the face of contradictory facts with all the fervor that they defend the Bible in the face of science.

This is scary shit.  They can do absolutely anything and it will be cheered on.

While we've all generally greed that he's a symptom and not the cause, there is something very specific with Trump and the rise of social media and YouTube as news sources that has decimated people's brains. Without trying to get conspiratorial, it has organically and effectively become a psyop because right wing charlatans found a way to enrich themselves.
