Also, adding to what's been said before, I know a number of people whose judgment I respect that think the Eastlands are/were very good people.  Not just nostalgic campers.

And, while I think at least initially being a camp director is a labor of love, there's quite a bit of evidence that this has become a big, profitable business over the last 30-40 years and there was some greedheading going on.

So, I think it is quite unclear whether the disregard of the flood risk was complacency bred of familiarity or the result of greed and arrogance.  I suppose the line is fine.

let's look at a few anecdotes from the past 36 hours (thank you @RomaVicta, the 995 crowd can share your talents every so often)

- a flood occurred when the eastlands were involved with mystic where the water was "at the top of the steps of the dining hall"

- that would place the water at the roof line of the bubble inn, or higher

- the bubble inn is at the lowest elevation line of all mystic structures

- thus, fema map protests must have been to 'move the flood line' below buildings (the bubble inn) that had been entirely under water during the "steps of the dining hall flood"

- said protests last date to 2011

- therefore, if the eastlands filed those protests, or funded the filing of those protests via representation, their motive for doing so would be duplicitous to say the least

now, it may come to pass, that the protests were to move the upstream camp expansion above the fema flood line, or to declare the fema flood line was below the upstream camp expansion (i.e. the tennis courts covered in mud 9 days ago)

which makes deciphering the puzzle more complex, since the upstream expansion is at a higher elevation than the bubble inn

if it was so fucking lucrative, why didn't they move the entire camp to higher elevation, when they knew they were lodging helpless children next to extremely dangerous water?

i would like to know what the holding corporation's tax status is with kerr county

if anyone knows that please chime in

I’ll never understand how people not only vote against their interests, but have been brainwashed to do it every single time.  You had grown ass men and women rejecting free funding to better their community’s emergency preparedness for fear of…what exactly?

Just so everyone's expectations are clear, this is the way it'll always play out

  • Day of:
    • wall to wall media coverage
    • non-stop social media anecdotes and commentary from public figures
    • all politicians extending thoughts, prayers, and offers of assistance
  • Day after
    • politicians on the scene, photo ops, press conferences making all kinds of promises
    • wall to wall media coverage
    • hundreds of different charities and GoFundMes up and running, donations pouring in
  • Week after
    • media coverage mixed with newer unrelated stories, in-depth stories from first responders and victims
    • social media attention drops off
    • charities still seeing support
    • politicians continue with thoughts and prayers, but all commitments if any are made are vague and noncommittal
  • Month after
    • no more mainstream media, any media attention will come from partisan sources making a story of the government failing to honor its promises to help the affected people and communities
    • social media will consist of people sharing the partisan stories
    • donations will have slowed to a trickle
    • politicians will stop talking about it, and when asked about it will have a canned response that in no way, shape, or form, helps anyone
  • Thereafter
    • no media at all
    • basically no charity at all
    • politicians will neither lift a finger nor spend a dime on rebuilding or helping any of the victims
    • victims will try to speak out about how the safety net wasn't there when they needed it, and their stories will be ignored

We are here:

One thing I'd neglected to mention is during this month the far-right strategists will begin testing out different counternarratives on friendly media then instructing their surrogates to coalesce around the one that sticks. We already saw Charlie Kirk go with the "DEI Firefighters" narrative, and Trumpworld is trying to go Full Orwell by commanding people to disregard their eyes and ears because this was the greatest and best federal disaster response of all time. Honorable mentions to "liberal cloud seeding" and "nothing could be done against a 1000 year flood" but as of right now I don't see a clear frontrunner yet.

Stay tuned because there will be more trial balloons now that the "this is not the time to do politics" trope is fading away.

I posted in the DT thread about my experience in joining a search team for a couple of days.
My CR comment on that is that nearly all of the efforts going on in Hunt right now are being carried out by non profits.  Some are religious based, others are ex military.
I am positive that a lot of these folks were MAGA.  Believe me, there were lots of signs of where these folks came down on things.
What I am having difficulty reconciling is that these people were obviously doing good work and I am appreciative of their efforts, but are also supportive of some of the worst people to ever inhabit our government, and who are doing some pretty terrible things.
There were several chaplain types walking around supporting those who were doing the work. I give them credit for that. But, one in particular came up to check on me and ended our discussion by asking if I wanted to pray for our leaders and especially our President.
Out of respect for the work he was doing, I did not make a big deal of it but it was just hard to reconcile.
Like I said, it is extremely admirable what these people are doing and I want to give them credit for that.  I just don’t understand how they recognize the suffering of people in one way but not another.

What is the cloud seeding conspiracy?  In laws vaguely brought it up this weekend.

You’re a better man than I-the chance to insult such a preposterous request would have been irresistible.

“Sure, I’ll pray for them.  I pray to God that Trump and every fool too stupid to see he’s a crook and everything Jesus Christ preached against are struck dead tomorrow.”

Like some tiktoker or some such, "what is gonna take to get these people to have some empathy before something bad happens."

The fact that the dotard is alive is proof that prayers aren't effective.

i am not a real estate or property dude - if we decide to bring in a surl expert i motion we ask wulaw - but not yet

the following may be scenery or of interest - what stands out to me:

- deed date is 1 june 1998, recorded in the texas corporate rolls

- natural fountains properties is listed as the grantee, camp mystic as the grantor on the 1 june 98 deed date line item

- the assessment and tax value doubled from 2020-2021 just like travis county

- 2025 taxes are $112k

- taxes due to upper guadalupe river authority: $1088, a rate of 0.0117% of assessed value

- taxes due to kerr county emergency services: $1658, a rate of 0.0178% of assessed value

it seems they are not getting good value for their atrociously under-priced services

the address for natural fountains on this document is the same as camp mystic

the name "neel bonner" is named as the addressee for natural fountains

one possibly relevant result for that name is a linkd profile of said name with 40 connects, and owner of a water sprinkler company in houston

of more interest were the 2 results, and the only 2 results for <"neel bonner" AND "natural fountains">

the first is a wacko social someone else can deepdive - it may have already been posted here or in the dt thread: https://t.me/s/WaterWatchTruth

the interesting result is the corporation wiki: https://www.corporationwiki.com/Texas/Hunt/natural-fountains-properties-inc/30067724.aspx

it shows natural fountains is for profit, was created in 1956, and the eastlands are/were part owners of natural fountains

but as with all rabbit holes, it only leads to more questions, as all of the following corporation notes are not active links:

image.png.07ceccbcc8106648069a5cf01dd17f3a.png

and last, but actually in the first section of the form, the entry for "zoning" is blank, and the entry for "property use" is blank

one would think the kerrco assessor would have figured out what to put in those boxes for a camp that is 99 years old and was incorporated 68 years ago

those boxes would not be blank to ensure various data sweeps from various large corporate and federal entities 'missed' or did not 'flag' this document

so who is <neel bonner>?

searching <"neel bonner" AND "camp mystic"> yields only 1 result, the wacko telegram social listed above

was he onsite on the 4th?

did he die?

did he survive?

it's impossible to know, because there is no complete list of the names and only the names of the dead and missing

so why is this still the case almost 10 days after the atrocity?

and that's where the trail ends.... for now

was this guy wearing a gravyseal cosplay version of a chaplain's 'uniform' with a big civil war cavalry hat, wearing glasses, and carrying a teddy bear?
