RocketMoney got Disney cancelled for me.  Unfortunately, I was on the annual plan, so it's still going through February.  And I didn't get to tell them why I was cancelling.

President Donald Trump has suggested that networks regularly criticize him should potentially have their licenses taken away.

"They're 97% against, they give me wholly bad publicity... I mean, they're getting a license, I would think maybe their license should be taken away" Trump told reporters on Thursday. "When you have a network and you have evening shows and all they do is hit Trump...They're not allowed to do that."

The president's warning to networks comes hours after ABC announced Wednesday evening that it has suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely following backlash over comments host Jimmy Kimmelmade about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The host criticized MAGA figuresfor politicizing Kirk's death, prompting outrage from conservative activists.

Pathetic

Ah yes, all those comedians with hours and hours of sets about the benefits of masks and importance of vaccinating the majority.

i think if enough of us write in "fascism" as our reason, we can get it onto the official options list.

In this episode of Ross Douthat’s “Interesting Times,” Ross and Ezra assess the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and debate whether the left has taken a dark turn.

The left NEEDS to take a dark turn, Ezra.

AKA, do the same thing the right has been doing for a decade.  They changed the rules.  It's time the left started playing by them.

FIF accuracy.  Utterly ignore the fucking TORRENT of right-wing rage, countless death threats, calls for political violence, extermination, exile, etc., and calls to imprison/eliminate the entire political opposition, in favor of focusing on....I don't even fucking understand what he's focusing on.  He's a giant piece of shit, that's all that can be focused on.

He's fucking awful, and I don't know why anyone on the left takes him seriously about anything.

whataboutism is their fucking religion.

You mean "whataboutism, built on a platform of false equivalency."

For example, they respond to coercive threats against ABC's very licensure by saying "whatabout when the Biden admin pressured FB to remove disinformation during COVID??????"

Those are not equivalent things (per Cornell law's nice summary of First Amendment law on such matters):

Quote

The government can attempt to persuade private parties to adopt its viewpoints, but it cannot coerce others into suppressing what the government believes to be objectionable views by threatening legal sanctions or using other coercive methods.4 In other words, the government may communicate with third parties as part of its “attempts to persuade” the public, but it cannot cross the threshold into impermissible “attempts to coerce.” 5

To state a claim for unconstitutional coercion of a third party in violation of the First Amendment, a litigant must allege “conduct that, when viewed in context, could be reasonably understood to convey a threat of adverse government action in order to punish or suppress the plaintiff ’s speech.” 6 In National Rifle Association of America v. Vullo, the Supreme Court held that this standard would be met by a New York state official’s alleged threats of enforcement actions against private entities that refused to disassociate from the National Rifle Association (NRA).7

So, first, they state a false equivalency, THEN use it to bolster the tu quoque logical fallacy.  A fallacy on top of a fallacy.

It's akin to justifying the crime of murder by saying "the other guy is a criminal too" when all he did was jaywalk.  Except in this case, the action they are pointing to doesn't even violate the law.  They are effectively saying their action of murder is okay because one time, some other guy said "man, I wish that dude would just die already."

There is no intellectual honesty on the right.  None.  It's amazing to see.  From William F. Buckley to....fucking this shit.

Don't let Buckley and his acolytes off the hook. They're as much to blame for this political mess as anyone.

Well, you could avoid going through any legitimate Disney/ABC/ESPN channel.  Have your cake and eat it too.

This is hilarious. Getting a pirated feed means that SOMEBODY out there is giving money to them so you can watch, which means you watching is helping them get money. You're still seeing their ads, which is where most of their money comes from. Way to go! You showed them!

Well that someone ain't me and those someones are paying based on subscribers/viewership and I and anyone else like me won't count for that.

Also, do recall that I'm an IP lawyer, so for me to suggest this is  . . .  something.

I think we should make sure Gary Weitman @ Nexstar has a bad day - poor guy is the only person listed on the contact page (https://www.nexstar.tv/contact/), so I guess he signed up for it.

Whoopi Censored? “The View” Ditches Hot Topics Avoiding Kimmel Suspension Talk As New Episode Reruns Old Conversation

Whoopi and Joy didn't discuss the Kimmel situation at all.

When does Saturday Night Live start back up?  That will be the real test.   If they don't go all in, including parody of Kimmel/being shut down for being Anti-Trump, it's over.

So, my thought was "boycotting ABC advertisers, and letting them know, might be more effective."  Then, I googled a list of ABC advertisers.  And man, it explains why legacy media is in the shitter.  Seems like 2/3 of the ads are for prescription drugs (none of which I use).  Then there's a fair amount of PI lawyers.  Again, I don't use them.  Auto manufacturers....I'm not buying any cars anytime soon.  Some bigger outfits, like Verizon and whatnot.  But goddamn.  Even looking for something I COULD boycott is a chore.  That can't be good for the ad sales department.  Shit, if you banned prescription drug advertising, I'm pretty sure every legacy broadcast company would go tits-up the next day.

snl is back in 2 weeks.

if history is any indication, they will pull no punches, and make the fcc come down and take the control room from their cold, dead hands.

it's basically their only consistent belief over the past 50 years.

john oliver was off last week but i believe will be back on sunday, and we already know he gives no fucks. he went full on attack on his own bosses for the dumb shit they would constantly do.
