Bob Kraft Arrested in Sex Sting

Where is the confirmation that law enforcement was doing the filming? Obviously makes some sense, but I hadn’t seen that and don’t want to assume anything.

Seems more likely that this is like the Waco massage parlor last year where the owner was filming everything and the police seized the recordings when they shut it down.

"Robert Kraft was spotted at a pre-Oscar party in Hollywood on Saturday
New England Patriots owner attended bash thrown by billionaire Barry Diller
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was also seen at the bash, without Lauren Sanchez
Kraft's 39-year-old girlfriend, Ricki Lander, was not spotted at the party either
One day earlier, Florida police announced criminal charges against Kraft
Authorities allege Kraft was one of scores who paid for sex acts at massage joint
Soliciting a prostitute is a misdemeanor in the State of Florida "

Ahh they have footage of him so how else does that get there...  So it was a sting operation so either 1 they paid sex trade girls to film for months or 2  it was just a setup the whole time with basically government workers...  Hints the scechty part of all this.

I know the Orchids of Asia are just massage experts, but if a guy is worth billions of dollars and you're just charging $50...that's just f'ed-up.

You're supposed to be good at maths.

I believe in one of the articles early on said law enforcement secretly placed cameras in the rooms...???

yeah the only thing that makes sense is they placed cameras inside the rooms and did some kind of surveillance from the outside of license plates of the customers to be able to identify them. sure they could probably identify Kraft just from the inside video, but your average joe would have to be identified in a way other than just a videotape of them naked.

Or the most likely scenario, the “spa” had cameras in the rooms and the footage was seized by the police.

They could have simply had a line up that was cleverly suggested in Porky’s.

Bezos looks like he knows he's about to buy the Patriots for $72,000.

I guess that article answers the question.  Says police planted the cameras inside the parlors.
Kinda interested how (legally) police could place cameras inside a business.

Maybe the better question is how the proprietors didn't notice the cameras when they were mopping the rooms up every morning.

Your first mistake is assuming they cleaned anything in that place

Dude, it's Florida. As to how, google Shawn Rees Milfhunter to be enlightened on this point. If it doesn't become clear, google Stabbin Dogs and or Captain Stabbin.

He's cheating on that for some cheap ass asian parlor? WTF, man.

She has to be cold as shit to this dude as a gold digging whore. She's gonna put out, reluctantly, but she doesn't give a fuck about him. He probably just wanted someone who would at least act like they care

This "sting operation" seems overwrought, entrappy and publicity thirsty, as well as a tad "Puritan". It's just sex after all, oldest profession there is yada yada. If it's sex trafficking you're concerned about, devote resources to assist the individual women ensnared in it. If this is ultimately about minors, then I get it. Devoid of that, this smacks of TMZ/Gawker gotcha.

The women in these spas are slaves so I don’t have a problem if the men using their services get publicly embarrassed. By no means are the customers as bad as the traffickers or someone like R. Kelly but the slaves wouldn’t exist if men like Kraft stopped going in there. These spas are not victimless crimes.

law enforcement should also be questioned why they aren’t regularly raiding these spas to shut them down as well.

You should be aware that if you’re getting a cheap rub and tug, especially from a non-native born person....it’s almost certainly via human trafficking. No, not 100% of them...but the vast majority. Seriously. If you are shopping for an Asian rub and tug, it is very, very likely that you’ll get it from a victim of human trafficking.
As to the facts and evidence in this specific case, of course we will have to wait and see. But the scenario described is textbook human trafficking.

In some abstract sense, yes, but the fact remains that the johns, unless proven to have some culpability beyond soliciting, are not actively participating in the trafficking of humans.  These same type of "demand-side" arguments were/are used to make drug possessors into criminals and to increase the penalties, among other uses.

I don't care for these "crime and economics" arguments, because, like "law and economics" in other fields, they are seductive, but don't ultimately hold up.  They may have some purpose in the sociological analysis of crime, but I don't think they have any real place in the criminal justice system end of things.

The US has inserted "anti-trafficking" provisions into a number of international treaties, and good for us, I guess.  But that has made "human trafficking" or "sex trafficking" a "priority" of the FBI and, being the glory hounds that they are, they are going to trumpet any arrest with the remotest connection to human trafficking as a big one.  Until I see the international heads of such rings going down, I remain skeptical.

when it stops getting cold?

Brutally cold in late February in the Los Angeles area.  Especially at that time of day with the sun beating down on your face.  Coulda been as chilly as 68 degrees for Bezos.

Anyway, curious what kind of boycotts come as a result of Kraft’s arrest, or pending indictment.  Most self respecting women of Massachusetts would gladly sell their children to an Asian massage parlor to enable Kraft to resign Gronk.  But outside of there, this is gonna have to effect TV and sponsors.

His charge is solicitation, not trafficking.

His charge is solicitation, not trafficking.

And I think that the point of mentioning trafficking is to create moral and social pressure on Johns.

Having sex with an independent woman who chooses to engage in sex for money is one thing, lots of folks may agree that two consenting adults should be able to engage in whatever transaction they want to.

Now, if that woman is actually a slave with no agency, who is engaging in the trade because she was tricked/fears for her safety or the safety of her family....most folks would steer clear of that.

Telling men that when you patronize certain places, you’re more likely to be using the services of a slave instead of a consenting adult, may cause men to limit their visits to such places.

I’ve been in presentations by members of human trafficking task forces, and that’s absolutely one of their messages and goals.

And there is the logic of busting child porno home viewers:  their actions are driving a terrible trade.  Not saying the johns are equivalent in moral crime, but that the logic of being in the market driving the bad thing is already established as a juriprudent logic.  (Layman view).

Awareness programs are one thing.  Painting solicitation defendants as traffickers is another; as is publicly glorifying john/hooker busts as trafficking busts.  And without wading into that debate, justifying sex worker prohibitions on a connection to human trafficking is yet another.

It's really drug war 2: poontang boogaloo.

Uh...since you're a lawyer, I'm gonna assume that this post is privileged communication:

I "may" have gone to a few rub and tugs in my day, but when I found out/realized that the massages weren't necessarily "consensual", it impacted me to the point that I quit going completely and wouldn't ever go back to one...even if I wanted a legit massage.

On your last point, I certainly agree - when you criminalize basic human vice, you set it up for trafficking, abuse, cartels, etc.
You should be able to buy your weed at the store, from a reputable dealer.
You should be able to buy a rub and tug from a woman who chooses to engage in the trade, has her free will and agency, and is safe.
Decriminalizing both would go a long way to reducing the bad things associated with both.
That said, until then, a big bust IS a blow against traffickers. And they Are always looking to put together a bust higher up the chain.

That’s pretty much the same logic used in the war on drugs. Lock up the users and eliminate demand. It hasn’t worked very well there. On the other hand legalizing weed has pretty much eliminated the financial incentive for the illegal trade in those areas. I think the same thing would work in the sex trade. If you legalize it, you would eliminate most of the financial incentive for the illegal trade and have a much larger impact on human trafficking than we ever will by locking up johns. Just my uninformed opinion.

Again, the headlines and articles seem clear to me that he was charged solely for solicitation, not trafficking. The further story is that he was caught as part of a trafficking investigation. All relevant, factual statements. I do agree that prostitution should be legal to help prevent trafficking and providing that women who do this work are truly doing it of their own free will and being paid fairly. But that's a different point to be made.
