Stupid question amnesty: If Trump selectively ordered investigations into Democrats that appear in the Epstein files and an active investigation is the planned excuse that that information can't be released, won't that have the opposite of the intended effect?

"Well, we can't release any information pertaining to ongoing investigations, so here's all the Republicans."

Pretty much everything he does is goes to keep ramping up the pressure on him.  His crazies aren't letting this go short of a full release.

It has to be done by December 19th.

We've already had over 30,000 pages released (most from his estate) and we know the DOJ has a much larger number of files.

Anything held back is going to ramp up the crazies. And the DOJ can't release a few hundred redacted files, as the AP says:

Quote

However, the law also makes clear that no records shall be withheld or redacted — meaning certain parts are blacked out — solely because their release would cause embarrassment or reputational harm to any public figure, government official or foreign dignitary.

Mike Johnson and Co. really fucked up.  Trump is going to go against the law just passed and try to hold back a lot, but it'll be the Streisand Effect on acid.

Anybody with a brain has known Trump was doing creepy crap with Epstein. He was a known rapist and creep back before he was a political figure.

The vast majority of people, when asked "What is the youngest you would have sex with?" would recoil from the question. "That's really gross", or something. Trump's answer? "Well I wouldn't have sex with a 12 year-old". That is disgusting enough, but knowing Trump like we all unfortunately do now, that translates to "I would have sex with a 12 year-old but I wouldn't want it known."

All they want to cover and, therefore, everything they want to see is part of the political horserace. The premise of the question is, "surely you see the world as I do, that is merely blows dealt and received by the Dems and GOPs." It passes for subtlety among the meat puppets on the TV.

So intellectually vacant and narrowly focused coverage of the news has, IMHO, promoted the transformation of American politics into the NFL. Particularly, obviously, for the right.

Is this because it might make a pardon from the dotard more difficult?

Of course it is. Anything she would say under oath will almost certainly incriminate dotard.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Maxwell quietly pardoned in the next several weeks and she'll leave the USA never to be seen or heard from again.

She can shack up with Kitara in Brazil.

I hope he does pardon her.  It's going to cause the more outrage than anything he has ever done while in office.  It will ratchet the pressure up on Republicans an astronomical amount.  The Epstein scandal is finally the thing he can't shrug off because it's both horrifying and easy to understand.

Kind of like Watergate.  People understand a burglary and attempts to cover up a burglary.

And bragged about it publicly. That tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the asshole.

Also, this bears quoting.  Because....for real.  I would suspect that most of my peers would give an answer along the lines of "I guess the technical answer is she's gotta be at least 18, but man....I'd feel creepy AF to be with a gal who wasn't at least out of college/in her mid 20s/is in her 30s even."  For most of us, there's kind of a hard barrier that's tied into the age of our daughter, if we have one.  My daughter is in her mid-20s.  Make me single tomorrow, and I STILL couldn't imagine myself being with one of her friends.  Dude.  No.

But Trump?  Jesus.  That his mind even went there.  "I wouldn't go as low as 12" are words that should never come out of any non-sick fuck's mouth.  The concepts of "sex" and "12 year olds" shouldn't ever exist in your brain at the same time.

yup, not a lot of people cared about the crime, but the shoddy attempt to hide it is what people took exception to. not gonna be any different here

The general rule, once you get to being an adult who can rent a car, is half your age + 7, and that's as low as you go.  Obviously, one can still be in a pretty low zone with that rule, but it generally keeps one out of the completely fucking weird and creepy zone.

Oh sweet Jesus.

https://www.theverge.com/news/826901/jeffrey-epstein-files-emails-gmail-jmail

‘Jmail’ is like any other inbox, except this one has Jeffrey Epstein’s emails

Quote

The more than 20,000 pages of Jeffrey Epstein emails released earlier this month by the House Oversight Committee have been enough to prompt more investigations into the convicted child sex offender and the people around him, like former Harvard president and OpenAI board member Larry Summers. Now, Luke Igel and Riley Walz have reformatted the source documents into a more familiar format for anyone looking into them by copying the Gmail inbox on a website called “Jmail.”

Quote

Walz, who has previously authored stunts like a website that unearths long-forgotten iPhone clips on YouTube and a fake Manhattan steakhouse, said they used Google’s Gemini AI to do optical character recognition on the source documents, making them more readable and searchable than the originals. You can type in a word like “Trump” or “SEO” and see exactly what discussions were happening in the emails released so far, and a one-click shortcut that goes from the Jmail site to copies of the source documents on the government’s website, so you can verify the text yourself.

Quote

In the weeks since these files were released, the president has signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which says the Attorney General must “make publicly available in a searchable and downloadable format all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in the possession of the Department of Justice” within 30 days.

That doesn’t mean all of the remaining files will be released, as CNN points out. The law’s language allows information that might “jeopardize an active federal investigation or ongoing prosecution” could be temporarily exempt, but whatever is released could end up sorted into this more easily-scanned version pretty quickly.

And here's the linky.   I'm sure Google will come along and issue a cease and desist.

They’ll defend literally anything Trump or these other creeps do if it means “owning the libs.”

I remember endlessly shaming my best friend who was 16 because he kissed a 14 year old. I looked at him like a predator. She is a middle schooler dude! Sick fucker.

If Trump does pardon Maxwell, or even talk about it, what possible reason for pardoning a sex trafficker would there be other than silence on your own misdeeds?  If he isn’t implicated, why would he pardon her?  I guess billionaire x pays Trump to do it to keep x out of the crosshairs?
