Trivial things that make you surly

All things people have mentioned previously, the first two of which are brought on by the fact that I had to fly economy last minute on an international flight the other day:

People who stand up/hang around the gate before your boarding group is called: eat a bullet.

People who listen to videos out loud/talk on speaker phones in public places: literally fuck your own face**

People who whisper/talk to each other during a movie: go play in traffic.

**caveat posed as a question to Surly dads, since I am about to join that group: is there a reason why so many people let their kids listen to shit out loud on iPads and iPhones vs. plugging in headphones and fixing the volume? I assume there has to be an actual reason vs. every living parent being inconsiderate.

Well, after the third set of destroyed headphones, I just stopped trying.

In my defense, the sound is off on the iPad if we are in public. They can just watch, they don't need sound, and hasn't been an issue with my kiddo.

My mom was letting my 2 year old nephew listen to Cocomelon on her phone at a restaurant on Sunday.

Full blast.

I felt so bad for the other patrons.

People that tell you their name for something and don’t tell me how to spell their last names

This is with mostly females. Like I’m supposed to know hope to spell Kasprzak and Leitheiser

Not to mention that we're just supposed to guess how they spell their first name as well. Bitch, do you know how many variations of Katelyn there are?

You assume incorrectly.  See below.

My wife’s first name is a different spelling of Chelsea. She doesn’t spell it out to whoever she’s telling it to. Nor does she do it for our last name that contains a silent C. Internal gears grinded

I cringe every time someone says this when these worthless virtual meetings end early. "I'll give you some time back". Fuck off. 66062b389bb5b5301ae62b52d36b4277.jpg

One of my vendors says this every fucking meeting and follows it up with “and it’s time no one knows about so do with it as you wish.” Fuck off, I don’t do shit for 80% of my workday already.

Do they not make solid colored athletic shorts anymore? I used to go to Nike or Under Armour and get plain black or blue shorts, just one solid color. Now everything has to have a secondary color, usually in the shape of a trapezoid on the side of the leg or it wraps completely around just one of the legs. WTF.

I don't let my kids have sound most of the time. But, after going through several broken head phones, lost (or forgotten) ones, I stopped. Also, not sure what age these kids are, but it's almost impossible for young kids to keep them on their ears

You let your kid sit next to me on a plane with the sound up on their iPad and I’m going to share my porn with them

Oh, man, so much this. I’ve been in a restaurant and seem some parents let their kid run around and annoy other diners. I figured if they ever came to annoy me I’d tell them to go back to their parents and tell them I said they’re “fucking assholes.” Can you say “fucking assholes?” Good, go tell your mom and dad that they’re “fucking assholes.”

Regarding the porn thing, I could tell a more detailed version of this story. But to keep it short, some years back my dad arranged for a trip to Hawaii for he and his wife, my sister’s family, and me. He thought it made sense to put me, a single adult, in a room with my 12-year-old nephew while my 16-year-old niece should have a room of own. Several suggestions that that was unacceptable didn’t work and it wasn’t until we arrived at the hotel for check-in that I had to put my foot down and tell them that if they wanted Joel to share a room with me then he was going to be introduced to porn. Of all the fucking nerve.

fragrances   My legal assistant has breathing issues and cologne, perfume or scented lotions and shit can put her in the hospital.  We have signs on our doors, tell clients when we set appointments and put in our emails telling folks not wear fragrances.  Some just blow it off and we have to tell them to leave and reschedule or figure out a way to keep them and their choice of funk out of my assistant's lungs.  No along comes this vile shit https://www.amazon.com/TYLER-Glamour-Laundry-Detergent-Maintenance/dp/B002GDZD8S/ref=asc_df_B002GDZD8S/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=216559542401&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17722287368826191025&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1015109&hvtargid=pla-378560610606&psc=1

I was on the tennis court the other day and someone who parked five courts away got out of their truck and I could smell that shit.

I get a little cologne when you are going out for an evening but damnit, you don't need a 1/2 of bottle of any shit.

products that need fucking bizarre ass sized batteries.  fucking wireless keyboard pad needs a CR2430 coin cell.

CR2320 is way more universal in the cell world.  They have the same voltage... but 2430 has marginally higher capacity.  i dont need 30% longer battery life if its annoying for me to have to source now these dumb batteries.

I don't have any breathing issues, but I have a better sense of smell than most, and the people who deliberately bathe in various odors are often more offensive to me than people who just stink.

Every time I stay at a Marriott property, I make sure to tell the front desk that the lobby smells like the cleaning staff spilled an unpleasant cleaning product somewhere. It's actually their "signature scent" called Subtle Sophistication, but it is neither subtle nor sophisticated.

Mrs. Brat despises the cologne/perfume crap that so many people drench themselves with. Gives her a headache if she’s around it for just a few minutes.
