One sign of how deep the hole trump has now dug for himself is the lack of gqp senators chiming in with for support...only the most deeply involved and implicated in his Jan 6 conspiracy are now speaking up.

while what you're saying is accurate, i would say the scariest part is that these senators don't really factor into the calculus.

polls as recently as yesterday came out saying that the gop is sinking deeper into the trump grip.

the gqp is becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of trump org.  the gqp is brought to you by a very generous grant from trump org.  the gqp and all its senators exist under the trump umbrella and it is starting to rain.

yes, they are nearly indistinguishable now, which is why Cheney making a big stand with big money behind her will basically royally fuck over the GQP

Much to our debit, as you obviously know, states run them. However, states and the federal government each have laws pertaining to fair elections, and every single state followed the applicable laws in 2020. Many of trump's cohorts tried their best to breach them and a number of his fellow perps will soon be in prison.

right.  and they've spent the past 2 years replacing those people with thugs, villains, and thieves willing to do trump's bidding.  brad raffensperger is not walking through that door.  and when he wins pa or wisc or ga or ariz or wherever in 2024 (even though the polls showed otherwise) we will never hear the recording of the call asking for just enough votes, but deep down we'll know what happened.

https://www.archives.gov/files/foia/wall-letter-to-evan-corcoran-re-trump-boxes-05.10.2022.pdf

So looking through the letter, the government said back in April they want their stuff back. The "raid" took place four months later.

That sounds like plenty of time to give back a dozen boxes of documents -- and make sure your passports and other stuff ain't in them.

Becoming? That happened years ago. Their mutual interests will soon part. It's inevitable unless they want to be a permanent minority despite the huge advantage they have due to the white supremacist electoral college system.

Yep.

I worked for the Innocence Project during law school so I'm relatively aware that we have a broken and lopsided system. One area in which it's extremely noticeable is what are frequently termed white collar crimes as opposed to violent, drug or even vandalism. Also the wealthy and the powerful often get an extremely sympathetic judge and/or prosecutor. That said, as I posted just yesterday, there are 2 men in prison convicted of stealing secret federal documents with a fact record that is very similar to what Trump could be charged with. You can look their cases up but each, white men, received significant prison time. Also Trump's CEO Weisselberg is headed to Rikers Island. The feds take theft of top secret information very, very seriously...it's folly for anyone to think that they don't believe this is one of the most important duties within the federal gov't.

Also, what makes me feel especially optimistic is this: If you were going to scope out a list of instructions for a target of an investigation to make himself appear to both a judge and a prosecutor as unsympathetic as possible; as irresponsible as possible; as self-contradictory as possible; as reckless as possible; as sociopathic as possible; and blatantly uncaring about heeding his most important legal obligations as a US gov't official, and to do all of that in just 3 weeks, it would be difficult if not impossible to top what trump has managed.

Trump is using his old playbook from NYC days - threaten, file nonsense lawsuits, make a public scene...that's not going to work against USDOJ.

If he's in bed with an enemy or rogue nation of some kind, would the law of war apply?

He sought foreign interference in a US election.  He incited an insurrection against the peaceful transfer of power.  He paid off a porn star with campaign funds.  He attempted to overturn the count in Georgia.    He's openly threatening the DOJ.   And as many here will point out, that's just the tip of the iceberg.  He should have been in prison before he even reached the Oval Office.   I sincerely hope you're on the right side of this and will celebrate right along with you if things work out that way.

Strongly agree they're chucklefucks. But they turned their backs on trump before and will do so again. Quite honestly with the motivation the gqp has provided many formerly complacent women to get out and vote, along with any homosexual, or a parent of a homosexual child, it won't be nearly as close in 2024 as it was in 2020. And in 2020 it wasn't close.

But gas prices!

I am out here on the ledge with you and my guy @Brisketexan, and been standing on that ledge for 6 years. This man should've never made it to the presidency, much less where he is now with all the things he's done. It is currently political suicide to go against this man, and a good bit of the United States is quite frankly scared of him. I used to think he was too stupid to pull of what Putin did, but now I see if he takes office again he will be able to.

What I am hoping is that the people in power realize that too and this is driven by a now or never mentality, and they can get him before he gets us. Even as it stands I am working a contingency plan on where to go it he gets back in office. Because this country will be a decade away from unlivable if you ask me. It will be Trump then him passing the torch to Jr.

That’s my thought, as well.  In a general as a third party candidate she’s more likely to grab “pinch your nose and vote for Biden” RINO’s than pull off the lunatics voting for Trump.

She'd have to run in the general in order for it to matter. Don't think she's planning on running for the GOP nomination (and if she is the idea is even stupider).

So a whopping 1.5% of the vote in the general, lol.  Maybe less.  I guess she's running as a pure independent or on something stupid, like the Constitution Party.

Edit:  not just big money.  Also the fact Dotard will lose his mind with her / LincolnProject attack ads.  The D candidate can hang in the background.  That’s a very real issue for fucktard.

Edit 2:  I’m a dipshit.  The GENERAL, not primary.

i read your original post, as i think it was derogatory and aimed at me.  but it's not like you're being super clear here, doc.

i'm not on the "liz can do damage" bandwagon yet, but as i see it, there are 2 potential ways this goes bad for trump:

-she runs in the gop primary, steals enough votes to put desantis ahead of trump, trump loses primary (no idea what the breakdown would be on this)

-she runs 3rd party in the election, steals enough votes to put the dem nominee ahead of trump, trump loses general

i don't think either is "obvious" and haven't really been paying attention to her plans.

He’ll probably win is asinine.  Cheney runs and he’s toast.  No D is voting for Liz and 10% R vote for Liz.  It’s over.

ok edit to add here is your original post.  here you mean 3rd party in a general, clearly.  i don't think seeing trump as a frontrunner is asinine, btw, and you should probably come to terms with that.  gun to my head, he's who i would predict as of this afternoon.

also it doesn't take dems to vote for cheney, but it could also cut into the "r but i hate trump" biden voters from 2020.

the only reason trump runs third party if he doesn't get the nom is if he is still using his candidacy as cover for protection from prosecution. i don't think he ever gets there. the things unfold I'm becoming more confident that this fat fuck's good days are well behind him
