Things Not Going Well in Venezuela, 2.0

It won’t. Contrary to typical US propaganda horseshit, sovereign nations always end up worse off when we pull off coups like this. You have to remember, this is only half of the process. The other half is the successful installment of a puppet dictator whose sole concern is the pleasure of US investors, which by definition means the population is always worse off.

Edit: and that second act is coming. Do not for a moment assume the Trump regime has finished its work in Venezuela

Got to love all our checks and balances though.

Can't wait for Russia to do the same with a European leader or China in Taiwan.

We didn’t create a power vacuum. We left Maduro’s VP in power.

Who we know will be better than Maduro based on what? And just because we leave our puppet in charge doesn't mean that he stays in charge.

Again, we’re not stopping there. She’s a Chavez/Maduro-ite from way back. No way they tolerate her unless they can convince her to abandon every principle she’s had going back decades.

By the way, if Venezuela were a major drug exporter to the United States, wouldn't creating a power vacuum be the absolute worst thing we could do?

Even if you believe the justification, it's a monumentally stupid response to it.

Would have been interesting to have these discussions in Congress. Lol

Oh I’m counting on it.

I have a relative with whom I had regular political spats during the Bush years. Keep in mind nearly all of them were about his foreign policy.

Cut to 9/11/2021 and this fucking guy has the nerve to say on the 20th anniversary of 9-11 that “I've disavowed the Bush foreign policy doctrine.”

So when I asked him “does that mean you’re conceding defeat in all those email spats we had when I was in college,” he said “no.”

This is the mind of a jingoistic Trumper. This is how they operate. Dishonesty is their fucking trade.

I've heard this exact kind of thing so many times. 55 year old lifetime racist Republican voter: "I'm a big Sean Hannity fan but I was always against those wars."

Somehow an unauthorized war and kidnapping a foreign head of state is more impeachable than selling pardons for millions. What the fuck are we doing? This Congress is made up of the weakest losers in all of history

Things will get interesting when Machado comes out of hiding and Gonzales flies home.

Madura is being indicted for possession of machine guns among other crimes

The coordinated unsealing of indictments against 14 officials and government-connected individuals, and rewards of $55 million for Maduro and four others, attacked all the key planks of what then-Attorney General William Barr called the “corrupt Venezuelan regime,” including the Maduro-dominated judiciary and the powerful armed forces.

One indictment by prosecutors in New York accused Maduro and socialist party boss Diosdado Cabello, head of the rubber-stamping constitutional assembly…

Live updates: US strikes Venezuela and says its leader ha...

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been captured by the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump's administration says he'll face charges on a New York indictment.

Just so I understand, this President does whatever he wants, has a stacked judiciary, powerful military, and his party rubber stamps whatever he desires?

A Chinese diplomatic envoy was in Caracas. This is all about keeping their oil straw off our Monroe doctrine.

That oil costs 100 bucks per barrel to pull out of the ground. There isn't a single US company that wants any part of that (for now).

It's about controlling the largest oil reserves in the world.

And when we steal Greenland, it'll be about rare earth elements.

Dolla, dolla bill, y'all. All else is smokescreen.

There are a lot of Venezuelans in Florida. They make up 40% of Doral and they largely support Trump and Rubio and helped Trump get elected. Amongst them are likely some wealthy donors too. This is about power.

So where are we on the invade Canada timelime? I'm thinking 2027 after we annex Coahuila?

There are a lot of people here from everywhere. We went after the one with all the oil that couldn't do anything about it.

This is about money. Every single thing he does is about money.

I have him on ignore but I assume anaphylaxis is totally on board with invading sovereign countries as long as babypants and cheeto do it?

Least shocking news ever here, Grenada 2.0.

Who we talking about here? Trump or Maduro?

This isn't Grenada 2.0. It's Iraq 2.0. We've just created a huge problem in our own hemisphere.

What in the wild fuck.

Two years from now, they'll insist they had always been against this.

Hell, they may say something against it now knowing that whatever they say doesn't matter. Same as the "I didn't vote for this" crowd when it comes to ICE.

Life is awfully convenient for people who never have to accept any responsibility.

I think that's the wrong corollary. I've seen Panama with Noriega suggested but to me this is not an invasion with occupation planned. I do think we just greenlit Taiwan and officially approved annexation of Ukraine. The world's borders are about to change.

Other than the cold and poutine infused diarrhea, they really don’t have the means to defend themselves. It’s more like an annexation.

The only case where it seems to have worked is Panama. They are way better off today than back when Noriega was around.

Not a problem if the plan is to conquer the entire hemisphere.

This seems like another case where our justice department won't be able to get an indictment from a grand jury.

They probably will, but this seems like a tough one for them to actually have to prosecute.

I'm really interested how they prosecute a gun possession crime that occurred outside the United States.

those charges are... something. I really didn't see this happening when we started bombing "drug boats" but it's all so incredibly clear now, even the deployment of the carrier group. These people are ghouls, even if Maduro is a bad person.

Chavez bad.
Maduro bad.
And we are a rogue state run by a psychopathic madman, and we are now fully into a new era of global conquest and capture by powerful against weak. Everything old is new again.

We are definitely the bad guys. A lawless nation led by a corrupt criminal held to task by no one, apparently.

Sorry the aside, but this always irks me. A decade of Trump and these people still haven't figured it out.

Trump DOES Know the difference between asylums. You have to assume he was told this many, many years ago by an aide or confidant when he first said it. Here's the deal: he doesn't give a shit. Pivoting off this line is admission of being wrong, which he obviously would never do. He likes saying this line about mental institutions and thinks it's effective, it's all theatre and entertainment to him. He doesn't give a fuck about any of this stuff. Trump believes in Trump, he's a nihilist about everything else.

So Trump can’t even get his fat ass back to DC for an operation of this magnitude?

This presser is unreal.
