It's a goddamn shame we never got to the point where you could simply just pay for the channels you wanted and not have to subsidize 90% of shit only 10% of people watch.

You don't like having the option of 5 different Smithsonian channels?

With Sling day pass are you able to watch the games broadcast on ABC on the ESPN 3 channel or do you have to have an antenna to watch ABC and sling for ESPN games?

You get ABC proper games

I’ve been siding with yttv in this thing, feeling the mouse is trying to corner the cfb market. But why am I getting a one time refund of $20. Shouldn’t they simply reduce the monthly subscription fee accordingly?

And you have to actually go sign up for it. Hey Google, the signup from this guy will be Hulu and me canceling your greedy service.

Feel dirty caving to the mouse, however. It’s the same feeling you get showing up to vote.

I think this is just Disney trying to recoup some subscriptions after losing a couple million subs in protest over the Jimmy Kimmel thing.

Also it makes people aware of the whole ESPN/Hulu streaming service. There's probably a good chunk of their subs that don't know there is more than D+.

I also just got ESPN 3’s feed of the ABC game (in addition to ESPN and ESPN 2 feeds) on SlingTV’s weekend pass. Not ABC proper. I had to use the leaf antenna attached to my TV for the actual ABC broadcast.

Dumb question amnesty.... what's the difference?   They don't just show the abc feed on espn3?

I watched the 3 ABC games on ESPN3 with Sling weekend pass. It was the actual ABC feed. The difference is it's a discrete game/broadcast. You can't watch other ABC programing.

It’s like showing up to vote for Mr Burns because the other candidate is Sideshow Bob.

I posted a couple pages back, but did the sling day pass and I’m here in Austin.  They don’t have local ABC, but I was able to watch all of the ABC normal telecasts with the day pass.  I could not watch abc for non-sports stuff.  Just the games

Edited to add - a lot of times, the featured game would show up first and it was the SEC network all22 camera, but the regular telecast was also available.

Now I get espn is the Debbil, but how the fuck does a future $20 credit help me out when ive now missed 2 of the last 4 full broadcast college football weekends of the year?

Sports is the absolute primary reason why I have the YTTV sub.

D1 Football , the primary product I watch for, has 30+% of all the D1 Football that gets broadcast over a week on that channel. Including the conference I give the most fucks about.

My subscription for the month started Oct 23 going through the same date in Nov.

I didnt see or hear the banner notices warning us that ESPN was in a rebroadcast fight until a few days later.  So i paid for a product with the assumption it was including my primary product.

They removed the product, its now been 2 weekends and instead of telling me that I am getting a $20 credit on my current fking billing statement, I get $20 next month... but only if I actually renew AND jump through their hoops to fucking get the credit applied.

So, for those who plan to stick it out and just order a day pass, you can dig up the YTTV credit in the "Update" section of the Settings menu.

This is where I’m at. I want to see the hoops first. If it’s click here and poof, cool. If there’s anything attached to it, I’ll pass. Renewal is scheduled for the 26th.

Agreed. It’s such a fucking beating. Was listening to Boomer and Gio righteously complain about all this streaming shit. You cut the cord from Direct or Dish but it’s like 10 different fucking streaming services. And constant fights with channels “we are about to cut the cord on NBC or ABC” and it’s total bullshit. I have Sling and it’s ok. But it’s like I don’t need 200 channels I will never watch either. Fucking A!

Correct.  I just clicked the link from the email, which took me to a login screen for my account, then after login it said "credit applied" .   Nothing else to do

Correct, I just checked my personal email (seldom do) and it came to me yesterday.  One click, done.

Didn't get the email yet, so I did it this way just now. Wasn't logged in to start. Took a total of like 8 seconds.

So dumb question (sorry). I'm in Houston and used Fubo last weekend, which was fine. But I don't really want to pay for a month since Disney owns 70 percent of Fubo (fuck those bastards). If I get a Sling TV day pass will I be able to watch the UT-Georgia game on Saturday? I ask since locals (Sling has ABC in Houston) are not included in the orange package.

According to those in this thread, yes.  Football broadcast on ABC will show up in ESPN3.

Genuinely curious.... Why is it that Disney is catching all the heat for this and Google escapes scot free?

Isn't one read that Disney is valuing their shit appropriately, and Google is being stubborn refusing to relent?

Why wouldn't Google just give in and raise their prices? Seeems like a better move for them as a business imo.

Is there a reason you can't put a wire into the antenna hole on your TV? or a coat hanger or actuall buy a cheap 7 dollar antenna?

Yeah, I don't want to mess around with that. We live surrounded by a lot of trees. In the past when I've tried to get a signal it has not worked well. Also the way the TV is mounted it is kind of a pain in the ass to reach its ports.

There are no angels in this fight. However, Disney appears to be trying to monetize the content (i.e. football on ESPN) as well as the distribution channels (i.e. ESPN Unlimited or whatever the fuck it's called this week, Fubo, etc). If they succeed in controlling most of the content and most of the distribution channels, it's going to be bad for prices long term. Google provides competitive pressure to keep subscriber costs down.

Gee, I wonder why consumers might not be on the side of the entity that wants to raise prices? What a mystery...

Google would be such the hero here if they would just raise their prices!

Gotta get those to pay for us who bailed off the ship somehow

What’s another 6.99? Free month of pandora + subscription enough to woo you?

They are refunding anybody that makes a request  the full monthly fee, but you have to request from a chat agent which can take awhile to get through. I paid 10/25 and cancelled last week and just checked this morning to make sure that my credit card was reimbursed (it was). If all you care about is live sports, I see no reason NOT to cancel if they arent delivering live sports that you paid for. You can always sign up again as soon as they get a deal. Its not like I wasn't already paying full price when I cancelled.

I've read that part of this is that Google isn't just trying to negotiate a better price on the channels, but also to get more access to some of the ESPN+ content and other content from Disney that they can seemlessly integrate into the YTTV experience.  Apparently they were able to make something like that happen with Comcast and NBC which apparently got YTTV subscribers access to something that was heretofore only available on the various apps, but I don't know, we mostly use YTTV for local news, sports and then we're on Youtube or Netflix or Amazon or Apple TV+ for everything else.  If that's what's actually going on here, then Google kind of is the good guy in this particular instance, even though they are the bad guy in a lot of instances.

Spectrum has to be loving this.  I have spectrum for internet and cable.  I have a package that is basically both for 210.00(all the sports channels including redzone) and I have access to apps for ESPN Unlimited, Fox One, Paramount, Hulu, Disney, HBO, Peacock, AMC+.  Sure they are all with ads(or you can pay a bit extra for no ads on some).  I get some of them "free" other ways without ads. live sports on those apps always has ads anyway.

I'm sure I will get my turn in the barrel when the spectrum mouse contract comes up again.  I want YTTV to win this fight but if they don't the cable v streaming pricing is getting pretty close. YTTV is better with the DVR ability and 6 users and the app is better than the spectrum app but for just me and the wife it works and isn't complicated.

And yes I will have to call and bitch at spectrum once a year to get them to back off their standard increase.

Anybody know definitively if the Texas-Georgia game will be ESPN-only, or if it will also run on ABC (KVUE in Austin)?

I have to believe it is OTA.
