I’m trying to wrap my head around who is going to do the 70,000 steel jobs and where they will do them.

“Honey, pack up the kids, we’re moving to Pittsburg. I got one of those sweet steel mill jobs we’ve been dreaming of!”

According to the STL Fed, the steel industry currently employs about 86k in the US.  Steel hasn't been at 150k since 1997.  https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/IPUEN3311W200000000

And, US steel industry currently operates at about 75% capacity.

In typical President Huff & Puff playbook, EU 50% tariff, that wants about negotiating are now deleted until mud-July. He will claim this as a victory, and his red hat wearing lemmings will celebrate greatness.

US Steel has been a floundering company for decades because the demand for steel has been in decline since a peak in the early 70s. Now for some reason the demand for steel is going to up and more factory jobs will be needed and desired. It all makes perfect sense.

Well, if any company has product margins that can handle a 25-50% tariff without raising prices, it’s Apple.

Why not just tax corporations and billionaires? Nah…

We ALMOST destroyed them, until we saved them

I think Trump is mixing them up with Japan - you know - since they all look alike.

So America was on the verge of collapse until Dotard stepped in and saved it with his tariffs. Then China was on the verge of collapse before Dotard stepped in and saved them by reducing the tariffs.

And people call him a conman.

Which is better?  Cold Turkey or Hot Chicken?  (Personally I love a good hot chicken sandwich).

I love a cold turkey drumstick on Thanksgiving evening after many beers and several hours of football.

Should we not pay attention to this matter? He usually lets us know. I don't know what to do with my attentions. Fuck.

Steel tariffs doubled to 50% starting June 4; and now that Trump knows about TACO this one is going to stick (at least for a little while)

I'm guessing he thinks because Nippon and USS are partnering or whatever, we can just ramp up the ol' steel production in a month or two and be just fine.

Saw a train on mopac this evening. LONG train, headed up from Mexico, full of car parts/chassis. Figure they let things stack up, then when the tariffs got relaxed, sent em all up.

Lol also saw this train cept I was at my in laws house near the train tracks.

If foreign steel will cost another 25% tariff, US Steel can just raise their prices. They have zero incentive to actually produce more steel especially since they will know that tariff could be eliminated at any moment and may potentially never occur.

They most likely will have a press conference stating that they have a plan to increase production and hire more, but they won't follow through.
