Trump - Why I still support him ! #maga

Recommended Posts

As we keep seeing more and more details how the Orange Cheeto terribly mishandled Corona virus, I’m morbidly curious why people still support #IMpotus It’s very evident the man is an idiot. To make matters worst, he’s chosen to surround himself with very incompetent people.

The press conferences this week have been nothing short of disasters. He has no idea what he’s talking about and stands up there making shit up. His made up trade wars were his first missteps and now between corona and the oil war, we’re about to hit the Trump depression.

I have some ideas but I’d like to hear it from his supporters. they’ve seemed to have gone silent around here

lets go trumpers, support your boy, don’t be afraid !

#IMpotus

note the following arguments are not valid : Hillary or her emails, hunter Biden, deep state, but Obama, liberals, ....

I think a fair amount of Trump’s base would be happy to see a ton of city folk die.

I have two thoughts :

1. They like being able to say they’re smarter than #IMpotus

2. Stephen Miller - they agree with him whole heartedly. Not on immigration Policies but that the non whites must be controlled and scaled back in mass to maintain a white america.

Because for many, it's a cult. And like any cult, Trump has them properly brainwashed.

It's not so much why they support him, but why they won't give up on him.

1) They are too busy making money to be able to live the american dream, so they only listen to sound bites.

2) Said sound bites come from the Red propaganda machine or from friends who listen to said bites

3) Most Red propaganda has always pushed trump as this embattled (by the libtards) hero.   If they'd just leave him alone, he'd solve all the problems.

4) His constant discrediting of the MSM leaves no opposition to his propaganda.

5) Most are uneducated, or selfish, so he talks like them.

Four types with overlapping venn  diagram circles will vote for trump

On the more “moderate” side, I think a ton of olds that have been historically Republican can’t bring themselves to vote for democrats   Anecdotally, my father says he won’t vote for Trump and didn’t in 2016 , but wouldn’t vote for Biden and didn’t vote for Hilary.  Claims he abstained in presidential election and will again.  I love the guy but am dubious.  I hope the Kristol’s and Goldberg’s of the world can make their movement work.   Again, I am dubious

There are those that really thought he would help them and have a combination of deep narcissism and cognitive dissidence about their decision that prevents them from admitting a mistake.   (Sound familiar?)

The  “America First” types from anti-globalists to those more in the Lindbergh/Hitler/Oswald Mosley mold.  Ie, the latent and active racists and fascists.

The rich.

Trump could actually take this situation and become a hero. Move heaven and earth to get support to people and become the consoler in chief.  Ask the former presidents to publicly assist. Etc etc. I don’t think he’s capable of any of that.

GWB was pretty good at that, at least the last two.  Because, I think, fundamentally, he is a good person if lacking other presidential qualities.

DJT, not so much.

It's funny, I loathed the SOB for 20 years.  Was bemused that he ran for president, shocked that he won the nomination.  I thought, well, maybe my contempt for him is somehow unjustified.  Still couldn't vote for him or Hillary.

Was gobsmacked when he won.  Given that really negative emotions about a person are not something I permit myself to indulge in much, I thought I'd give him a chance.**  I thought the left, ably abetted by the media, went overboard initially (I actually still do:  they gave him ammo/cried wolf too often so the stage was set when things got really bad).

Well, my initial misgivings have proven to be more accurate than I could have imagined and he's a bigger piece of shit than I could have imagined.

This doesn't explain why I support him, because I don't and never have.  But you could change a thing or two, namely familiarity with his record, and possibly explain why a rational person might have voted for him.  Doesn't explain why they'd support him now.

**I also have to admit that despite being burned by Perot, I was intrigued by the idea of an "outsider" President.  No mas, por favor.

I think 3 is "The brown people are coming here to kill you."  An idea reinforced every single day on Fox and OAN with a story about an illegal immigrant who committed a crime.  And at yesterday's press conference, "The brown people are bringing a deadly disease across the border" (a story with zero basis in fact).

We can all be certain that there's a murderous caravan that will depart Central America and arrive at our border the week of the 2020 election.  Which will get the military deployed.  "Shoot to kill" and shit.

They’re morons and cultists whose remaining neurons are now solely devoted to defending them from acknowledging their own stupidity.  Continued support is a defense mechanism.  They’ve gone all in on Trump with what few mental chips they had and can’t back out now.

That's around 20+ posts with opinions on why each believes a Trump supporter supports Donald J. Trump, but I don't see any with an actual supporter of Trump explaining why he or she supports Trump. It is something that a voter who is planning on voting for him should be able to put into clear explanatory words. Otherwise, one cannot truly poke fun at others with respect to 'feels,' correct?

If a Trump supporter posits that they support Trump because they cannot and will not vote for the Democratic nominee but offer no other explanation, I would ask  then why did one not allow other Republicans to primary? Surely other GOP candidates could be found?

I do not support the President's pandemic response especially since it appears that plenty of the more capable people behind the scenes are propping him up in order to facilitate his reelection. That is a puppet not a leader.

1 through 4 could have been achieved with any of the other 2016 GOP candidates. This goes deeper into the pshyce of the electorate.

Close. When you’re a deplorable, you don’t like yourself. The only thing every Trump supporter has in common is a deep sense of self-loathing. Just like Trump, they’re painfully aware of their lack of self-worth and self-love. But instead of dealing with it, they project that loathing outward. They find enemies and boogeymen every where and project their hatred outward to those imaginary evils.

They are a cancer to our country and will absolutely kill us if they spread further.

I think a lot of it is psychological as well - ie "my team" vs "other team". In other words  being against Trump would mean conceding defeat to the other team, ie the "librul, leftie socialists." So instead of engaging in self thought they mindlessly follow this orange tub of goo right off the edge of the cliff.

I remember somebody posted something to that effect on the SEC rant politics board and was, as expected, shouted down by the deplorables.

this is just gonna end up turning into the other Trump thread.  I'd be genuinely interested in an open invite type thread on either CR or DT that's just for Trump supporters to justify their continued support of him.  No retorts, no fact-based reporting from the middle, just a safe space for them to sort of justify to one another why they're still on board.  His true base have been studied ad nauseam and will be for decades.

But I am openly curious, and I am no Democrat by any stretch of the imagination, to hear from a chunk of folks on the non-political CV thread, et. al.  They live around the same places I do, they are highly educated, seem successful, practical, funny, and engaged.  And we all hear shit differently as it comes out of the mouth of any politician.  But he doesn't check any of their boxes, what's the point of proclaiming affinity for someone that you constantly have to defend.  If everything he says has be re-twisted back into reality by you and your brain, maybe it's not 100% on the liberal media?  Doesn't everybody eventually, on accident, say shit that's true?  Any GOP candidate from 2016 could have gotten that tax deal done with a GOP House ('17-'19).  Any GOP candidate with much deeper ties to center-right think tanks would have gotten all these federal judges through.  Maybe not 100% of the buy-in by McConnell but that's only because Mitch knows how to work Trump like an Ivanka-shaped sock puppet.  He shares zero values, zero experience, and zero morality with those guys on the other threads.  They know deep down he's not doing anything particularly special.  The people that aren't easily duped love him more than those that are.  Why?

Like how do you watch his press conferences lately and think, "Yep, that's just a straight shooter with Mount Rushmore written all over him."???  Otherwise, we may as well merge this one in with the others.

Why would anyone think they could have a civil conversation with any of you? I'm not a Trump supporter, by the way. But there is no way to discuss anything in even a halfway reasonable manner. I've described myself as not Team Red or Team Blue, but Team America, going back way before Trump. And I'm not welcome here.

You've collectively decided to abandon the entirety of American heritage, tradition, and its Constitution. You've made it your aim to offend every group possible at every opportunity. (I have a mild admiration for that part.) But mostly you've become an echo chamber of hatred and lunacy. You're in an intellectual dungeon.

Not sure who is gonna respond by answering the actual question posed. As far as I know the only poster on this board who will actually admit to voting for trump is GRUHorn.

Hell even the Hammer and the Sack claim they didn’t vote for him in 2016 (although the sack says he will in 2020 because he’s doing such a great job) and both of those guys are Republican idiots.

After watching Oliver Stone's The Untold History of the United States (Netflix), I can no longer say GWB is a good person and most of it has to do with 9/11. For the entire Bush clan, Trump's election was the best thing to happen to them. I encourage you to watch the series and see what role senior Bush played in delaying the end of the Iran hostage crisis in addition to basically being the mastermind behind the Iran Contra affair.

Crossposting: Re Rural Hospitals...

Oh I’ve worked small town hospitals back in another life.  Those people are fucked on a whole other level.  Less beds per capita, almost zero truly capable intensivists - anything serious gets sent to the big city.  Well, we have never had a situation in modern times with zero big city hospital capacity.  Shitshow guaranteed.

These places may have one respirator and almost a guarantee they have no idea how to use it properly.  It’s no surprise much of the opioid crisis took hold through very rural docs - some of whom I worked under in Med school - mandatory rural rotations.  The cute pharma girl could get those yokels to do anything.  At least in the city you would be looked at funny by colleagues.  You get rural enough there’s not too many colleagues who aren’t your drinking buddies/family etc.  And many are great docs when they start but it’s tough to stay on your toes practicing out there   Why are anesthesiologists the number one drug abusers?   They’re not drug addicts by nature just as rural docs aren’t shitty docs by nature,  just a product of their environment.

(anesthesiologists have access to the good stuff. And literally have to be around it all day.)

When Trump got elected I ventured into the cloak room and was initially shocked by the level of vitriol towards Trump and Republicans.

However, at that point in time, while I knew Trump was a bad candidate not worthy of my vote, I was willing to give him an opportunity to demonstrate what he could do. This was a key point in time where the deep polarization between the “two sides” really started to get bad, and here’s why.

Trump supporters, who were energized by his “frank talk” and boastful attitude, have viewed his entire presidency thru that lens. Meanwhile, the rest of the country began to see example after example of his incompetence, his grifting, his lack of intelligence, his lying, and his terrible policies. It’s stunning that a big chunk of this country is not able to see this. The propaganda has worked well on a lot of people.

Rather than acknowledging these obvious failures and flaws, Trumpers and Republicans doubled down, either because they haven’t paid enough attention and are buying into all of the Fox News and Trump bullshit, or they care only about their hard right policies.

There are a lot of Republicans in this country that don’t understand that the playing field is no longer fair for a lot of Americans, whether it’s because of education, wages, health care or something else. Some Republicans are stuck back in the 1960-1980’s, when an individual could pretty much make their own way. That is much more difficult today, and many Republicans haven’t figured that out.

To be fair, a bunch of Democrats running around calling everyone and everything racist, combined with overly-generous proposals for government giveaways exacerbates the problem, and drives a lot of people away from their party.

So here we sit with an incredibly effed up populace, a cloak room with only left posters, and a bunch of ill-informed people on the right.
