Is this the part of the rollercoaster where you look down and think ‘oh shit’...but you haven’t actually started the fall?

Any aggies around to provide more detail?

It definitely feels like that’s where we are at.

This is the part of the rollercoaster where you look down and think "oh shit, the lap bar isn't locked, and it won't lock, and holy fuck, those bolts are loose and oh fuck it just came loose in my hands".

I actually called Cornyn and Cruz's offices this morning to ask if they had any public statements on the Cohen news. Cruz's office was predictably limp wristed and noncommital to do any sort of oversight, but Cornyn's office stopped just short of saying that he would endorse and support a committee investigation into Cohen's claims. I think Cornyn is starting to feel some heat and get a little pissed. Cruz can DIAF and EABOD

Cornyn is watching Cruz fighting for his political career, and Cruz doesn't even have Trump (or Hillary) at the top of the ballot helping him.    If Beto wins, it's going to put Texas into play in 2020 if Trump keeps fucking up like he is.

Ex-Playboy Model, Freed From Contract, Can Discuss Alleged Trump Affair

"The tabloid news company American Media Inc. agreed to let a former Playboy model out of a contract that had kept her from talking freely about an alleged affair with Donald J. Trump.

The settlement agreement, reached on Wednesday, ends a lawsuit brought by the model, Karen McDougal, and protects the president from being drawn into a legal case involving efforts to buy the silence of women who had stories to tell about him during the 2016 campaign.

He still faces another lawsuit from Stephanie Clifford, the pornographic film actress known as Stormy Daniels. Ms. Clifford is suing to get out of a deal that Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, arranged in 2016 for her silence about an alleged affair. Mr. Trump’s representatives have denied both women’s stories.

This story is from April 18th but it does shed light on how quickly Pecker moved to cover his ass considering Cohen was raided nine days earlier.

The timing of the Elliot Broidy Playmate abortion story also came out at the time of the raid.

And if I read correctly, upstream, the feds interviewed Pecker back in April as well.  They move fast.  With the immunity deal announced 4 months later, one has to wonder what other Trump/Cohen deals about which could he be locked into testifying.

Pecker, Cohen, etc. are people that Trump thought he could trust for various reasons, either because they were being paid by him, or were considered friends by him.

That's helping to ratchet up the paranoia.

If Trump shot Michael Cohen in broad daylight, here's what Republicans would say

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/aug/23/trump-michael-cohen-broad-daylight

The New York Times:

Breaking news: in an eerie echo of Donald Trump’s infamous campaign trail remark – “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters” – many witnesses report, and CCTV footage obtained by the Times confirms, that early this morning the president drew a handgun on his former lawyer Michael Cohen and shot him dead on a street in midtown Manhattan.

House speaker Paul Ryan:

“If these reports are true – I emphasize IF – then yes, I’m very concerned. I don’t think the president should be killing people in broad daylight in front of Tiffany’s. But I’m not a legal expert, I could be wrong.”

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders:

Associated Press: “Ms Sanders, did the president shoot his former lawyer in an effort to stop him from testifying against the president?”

Sarah Sanders: “No, he did not.”

AP: “Are you saying that the shooting was not motivated by Mr Cohen’s recent plea deal, or rather that the president did not shoot him?”

SHS: “You’ve got my answer, Jim. No, no, no.”

AP: “Ms Sanders, I’m still not clear what –”

SHS: “The answer is no. No as in no. N. O. It’s these kinds of questions that have turned the American people against the press.”

CNN:

Anderson Cooper: “We’re seeing incredible images here. The president being taken into custody. Kellyanne, what can you tell us?”

Kellyanne Conway: “I’m not going to comment on rumors, Anderson.”

AC: “Kellyanne, these are not rumors. The president has handcuffs around his wrists. You’re seeing the same footage we are.”

KC: “You’re free to see things your way. I have an alternative perception.”

AC: “But how can you possibly –”

KC: “Let’s agree to disagree, Anderson!”

Senator Mitch McConnell:

“People die every day in this country. I’m not going to let myself get sidetracked by these distractions.”

Tweet from @realDonaldTrump:

“Back from GREAT chat with members of NYPD--the finest! Brand new police station. Very NICE. They want a wall too. Was NEVER taken into custody. FAKE NEWS cooked up by Crooked Hillary and FAILING NYT and CONFLICTED Mueller! Keep our borders strong – JUST SAY NO to murdering and raping Mexicans.”

Rudy Giuliani, president’s attorney:

“Let’s get our facts straight. The president was never taken into custody except for maybe around six hours. He has not been charged with murder and won’t be charged with murder because murder isn’t always murder. The constitution is very clear on this: charging the president with a crime is a crime.”

White House press briefing points:

“First of all, the president was not in Manhattan at the time of the shooting. Second, he was watching TV on the 26th floor of Trump Tower when the shots were fired. Third, while he didn’t have the opportunity to save the students at the Parkland school, this time the president was able to rush into a busy city street and thereby save dozens of lives from a distraught and possibly deranged lawyer.”

Words on Target umbrella held by Melania Trump, first lady:

“I really do care.”™

Homeland security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen:

“At this moment I can confirm that one of the alleged eyewitnesses to the shooting is a tourist from Mexico. Certainly we need to ask what a tourist from Mexico was doing in front of Tiffany’s at the time of this alleged incident. Now can I please eat my taco in peace?”

Alex Jones, Infowars:

“What I want to know is why hasn’t anyone mentioned that Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton were NOWHERE to be seen at the time of the shooting? Are you telling me that’s mere coincidence? C’mon! And why haven’t the NYPD and the DEEP STATE FBI looked into this? What else aren’t they looking into?”

Sean Hannity:

“What about the thousands of bills that Chuck Schumer has killed? What about Hillary’s murder of Vince Foster? And the Democrats dare talk about justice?”

Paul Ryan:

“I never said the president couldn’t kill in broad daylight. I just said I hope the president stays focused on all the great things we’re doing for the American people.”

Tweet from @realDonaldTrump:

“Michael Cohen said he would take a bullet for me. So NO MURDER! And NO COLLUSION!! WITCH HUNTS! Worse than SALEM!!! Never should have let CRIMINAL Comey (lousy writer to! book sales DOWN!) talk me out of executing KILLIN’ Hillary…”

Tweet from @realDonaldTrump:

“…and JIHAD Brennan and LEPRECHAUN Sessions. FAKE NEWS hates Trump because I built a Beautiful Wall. And brought PEACE to England! Now I’m PARDONING myself for NO CRIME! Also pardoning…”

Tweet from @realDonaldTrump:

“…extended family, all former campaign managers, present and future cabinet members. MAGA! #DraintheSwamp”

Quote

As it currently stands, the legislation would grant every state’s top election official security clearance to receive threat information. It would also formalize the practice of information-sharing between the federal government—in particular, the Department of Homeland Security—and states regarding threats to electoral infrastructure. A technical advisory board would establish best practices related to election cybersecurity. Perhaps most significantly, the law would mandate that every state conduct a statistically significant audit following a federal election. It would also incentivize the purchase of voting machines that leave a paper record of votes cast, as opposed to some all-electronic models that do not. This would signify a marked shift away from all-electronic voting, which was encouraged with the passage of the Help Americans Vote Act in 2002.

“Paper is not antiquated,” Lankford says. “It’s reliable.”

A paper record could prove effective against hackers if they tried to change the reporting of votes on the internet, as opposed to altering the votes themselves. Election officials needs to be able to say, “‘Nope, we can check this,’” as Lankford puts it. “Here’s the paper, here’s the machine, here’s our poll count.”

In a statement to Yahoo News, White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters says that while the administration “appreciates Congress’s interest in election security, [the Department of Homeland Security] has all the statutory authority it needs to assist state and local officials to improve the security of existing election infrastructure.”

Well, yes.  Because the White House is actively opposed to us having valid and trustworthy elections.  Again, we have an enemy power occupying the White House.  And a Senate full of collaborators.

This is how it all ends.

Goddammit.  That's the best they could come up with as an explanation?

If the GOP maintains their majority in this climate, we are one step closer to violence.

Violence may be inevitable either way it goes.  I hope that if Dems take Congress in the midterms and impeach doofus that the trumpkins will go back to being keyboard warriors only, but there's no guarantee of that.
