So, to the first point from @Js1, the House wouldn't be able to unilaterally say "we aren't going to certify", even if it remains under R control?

They’re required by law to perform the duties and the House doesn’t control it. They can all vote against it but Mike Johnson has no control over his caucus.

If NE-1 goes blue, I would assume there are going to be whole string off shocking blue wins. I'm saving my vote in NE-1 for day off though.

Hence why it is not the strongest play electorally to rely on the worst voting demographic.  There has not been a ground game to get them registered in time in a lot of states.  They can't just show up and vote for Trump if they didn't do the work first.

They’re not going to vote. They’re recruiting for the violence.

This is correct. In fact, The first thing you do after you swear in a new Speaker is pass the rules package for the new Congress. The reforms also make it impossible for state legislatures to appoint electors after the election.

Also, the revisions to the Electoral Reform Count Act makes it very hard for Congress to reject electors, and if they do, rather than triggering the disputed elections clause (and thus throwing the election into the House), it just reduces the total number of electoral votes and thus the threshold for gaining a majority.  Now that could cause some fuckery, but again, it is very unlikely now that two sets of electors could be presented and cause a dispute. For once, Congress did something right.

I'm shocked that you'll hand wave away the horrific act itself, and what it represents, and focus on the final outcome.

I’m not shocked. He’s a complete piece of shit.

brief sign update

I mean, I didn't see jack shit from Amarillo to Denver, and I drove up 287 through nothing but deep red counties the whole way.  Saw less than 5 signs.

Trump got 83% of the vote in Baca County.  I saw one sign.

Wrong movie reference.

That’s a wild place to go in this thread, however.  I wonder if Udo Kier ever met Donald Trump. Probably, right?

Just looking at that graphic, seems like it would take an enormous amount of older men voting in order to just make this a close race, considering that 18-39 gap.

I think these people just learned not to fly signs. They don't want the grief. But they're still fully engaged.

I actually don’t think we they care about the grief they get since they get little in their towns. Most I talk to think is has been wrapped up for since last year and don’t think they need to make the effort.

Woo! Gen X men barely blue!

Gen X men scoring better than Gen X women, if I'm raeding that correctly? I mean, if that's true, the women vote really spelling doom?

“He had a joke calling [Vice President Kamala] Harris a cunt,” a campaign insider involved in the discussions about the event told The Bulwark. “Let’s say it was a red flag.”

Four Trump campaign sources confirmed Trump's campaigned edited Tony Hinchcliffe's routine, “It could have been even worse.”

@Bateshorn has mentioned it, but Ann Selzer is dropping her final poll on Sunday.

This might be the most definitive "this is how the election is going to go" based on her track record. If she shows Iowa has a 5 point or less race, Harris is going to win easily. Her September poll was Trump +4 (47-43)

She was the first to show Obama winning the Iowa caucus using her method of "poll forward" - Rather than drawing from a panel of registered, likely voters, Selzer & Co. doesn’t discriminate in their voter pool. Whether you’re a Democrat, Republican, or an Independent, whether it’s your first caucus or your fifth, Selzer & Co. will take your political intent into mind

That is how she found all those first time voters that Obama inspired.

I want to know who the new Trump voters are. No one has explained that to me.

New since last time?

1. Those who have succumbed to the constant mainstream media drumbeat of how intensely shitty things have been the past 4 years between inflation! and! migrants!   2. Those who simply cannot bring themselves to support a woman/POC -- god forbid, both!   Those are my fears anyway. And that perhaps those people aren't vocal about their support with pollsters etc.

I'm behind in this thread. Has it made it over here that < 200,000 > subscribers to the W Post canceled their subscriptions in the past couple days?

Also - this reporter says he reported this in more detail at the Daily Beast after the hurricane happened.

Saw less than 5 signs or less than 5 non-mobile homes?

The concern here would be SCOTUS invalidating this part of that legislation, but after their last case on the ISL "doctrine" I think the odds of that happening are low.

Considering that he tried to overthrow the last election and caused an insurrection, perhaps some more attention should be paid to his "secret plan" with Mike Johnson, that we will only know about after the election. C'mon media, make an attempt at doing your jobs.

Yeah man.  I had to visit Hanford a couple of times. Eastern WA fucking sucks.

I worked at Hanford number 2 for three years.  The only good thing about the area was the Meadow Springs Country Club. That was one fantastic golf course and I played about eight rounds a week.
