2024 Spring Practice to Fall Camp Thread - Who’s a JAG now?

Baxter and Blue are two different types of runners. Between that and the fact that Baxter has been banged up, imo it’s too difficult right now to know if one is going to outperform the other. I would think the staff still believes Baxter will eventually get the nod.

How many carries did Baxter have healthy last year? One? Dude hurt his ankle on almost his first carry.

A slightly hurt ankle doesn’t make you fall down as soon as anyone touches you..

Say what you want, but despite starting Baxter over Brooks it was clear as day that Brooks was the more impactful RB. And once again this offseason Baxter is getting outshined by the RB who will surely back him up to start the season.

A few things. It might not have been clear as day in fall camp last season. Baxter had the size as a true freshman, but his body clearly wasn't up to the rigors of being RB1 whereas Brooks had several years baking in the oven and some live snaps under his belt, even if they were in garbage time. Personally, I was always high on Brooks' potential. But I always thought he'd shine outside more than the inside. He really developed.

The difference this year is that Baxter has a year in the oven and should be poised to take a significant step forward if his body holds up. Will he? We'll see. But I wouldn't assume Baxter will play second fiddle to Blue just yet. Blue will surely bust explosive plays. He's motivated and Sark has all the off-season to dial up and fine tune play calls featuring his skill set. That and if the Kool-Aid regarding the OL is bonafide, there will be big holes to exploit.

The Smith blurb is a good example of how the Kool-Aid gets flowing during the spring and it’s a good idea to always read these things with a critical eye. He may be Einstein, but the fact is he’ll need to add 30 pounds of muscle without losing athleticism to be a credible SEC linebacker. The report completely trivializes that with a simple “once he gets his body right” as if it’s a foregone conclusion. Personally, I’d wager that it’s more unlikely than likely.

That battle will come down to who develops the most this off-season. I doubt that it will be settled prior to September. Baxter needs to work on keeping his feet moving through contact. Blue needs to prove he is more than a speed back. I hope both fill the holes in their games this summer and this fight goes until both are drafted.

Has anyone done a head to head analysis between Baxter and blue because that fucking topic hasn’t been fucking beaten to death yet

I've heard some $9.95rs report that Baxter has the larger head, but some think Blue has larger balls . Jury is still out

If they can both keep a solid hold on their balls, we'll come out ahead.

Can we start calling Parker Livingstone "White Lightning"? Because that would be hilarious.

we are doing a "surly nicknames for players" segment on the podcast this week.

That's great and all, but the guy's nickname has been Jagger McJaggerson for over a year.

I never said the nickname we were giving this particular player was going to be white lightning.

This. This is really good.

@closetojumping would you settle for a burger and a grape snow cone with that nickname?

What kind of burger are we talking about? A Big Kahuna Burger? A Good Burger? A veggie patty burger?

No, fuck that. Now, if @immamac would change your handle to Jaggy McPosterjagger or something, I'd be all-in for whatever people wanted to us.

You guys read too much into things. There's no "nice" or "mean' or any other thing. There's just closetojumping. If I had the controls to this site last week, I'd have rolled your handle and 20 others into purgatory just the same as I'd do right now if I could.

Admin for a day seems like a fun exercise during the offseason. This board would devolve into an episode of Real Housewives of wherever.

Per Bobby:

Bert Auburn is not be a scholarship number this fall due to his NIL exceeding scholarship value.

So If that is true that would put us at 85 with the 3 transfers of Burrell, Walton, Kirkland.

That honestly kind of sucks for Bert.

I obviously don't know all of the specifics or what he is being compensated via NIL, but scholarship athletes get different benefits than non-scholarship athletes. On the surface, based on his production, he deserves to be on scholarship and benefit from NIL.

I don't think it really matters he's going to get all the same benefits regardless. The way it was phrased and worded leads me to believe the quiet part doesn't need to be said out loud with regards to not counting.

My guess is that hes a guy who was cool with not getting a schollie knowing he was going to get paid and also someone who would not necessarily cause too much ire as trying to flaut the scholarship system being a specialist, knowing that it  UT gave them one more scholarship so a guy didn't get asked to transfer
