I’d bet we see it for another 10 elections.  Our society can’t turn down the candy, once accustomed to it.

What I'll be shocked by is if the Supreme Court Justices don't become targets. How long until the loons realize if you really want to make a difference the best way is to take out Republican/Trump appointed Justices if Kamala wins? Or vice versa. Republicans opened a dangerous can of worms allowing this rhetoric.

How are cases assigned?

It’s actually smart to throw it to her since Trump picked her and there can be no chicanery accusations by MAGA (one less thing for them to bitch about).

Long write-up on the kid in Pennsylvania who tried to assassinate Trump.

A New York Times examination of the last years of the young man’s life found that he went through a gradual and largely hidden transformation, from a meek engineering student critical of political polarization to a focused killer who tried to build bombs. For months he operated in secret, using aliases and encrypted networks, all while showing hints of a mental illness that may have caused his mind to unravel to an extent not previously reported.

This account offers the fullest picture yet of Mr. Crooks’s life. Although many aspects of his background and mental health are still unknown, The Times’s reporting is based on thousands of pages of his school assignments, emails and logs of his internet activity, as well as text messages, government reports and interviews with dozens of people who knew him or were familiar with the case.

Interesting alternate history on what would have happened if that day in Butler, PA went differently. Biden was still in the race, correct? But Trump hadn't selected Vance yet. I think that's right. Who would the two candidates have been, in this alternate history?

It's amazing how that ear healed to show zero visible signs of damage.

C'mon now. A high powered rifle vs a superhuman's ear? Ear wins every time.

The primary's runner up seems most likely. That was Haley, right? But her being a woman makes her an unlikely pick...

Big Tech would have rallied around Vance and played up his media savvy and youth, so I think you'd probably have seen something like Vance/DeSantis or Vance/Scott(SC)

That's what I was thinking at first, but Vance hadn't been selected as his running mate at that point right?

I'd bet a decent amount of money that:

1) It was a legitimate assassination attempt that only occurred due to universal incompetence in those that surround Trump

2) None of the shots got near Trump

3) He cut his ear on the way down (secret service belt?) and that's what caused the bleed

4) In the immediate aftermath with a bloody ear, I think the president's crew legitimately DID think he got shot, but it quickly became clear that it was not a bullet wound

5) There's no way Trump would ever admit to NOT getting shot, so the lie will forever persist

Two things at play here.

Number one, we're talking relative to the rest of the field of potential nominees.

Second, at the time he was a darling of liberal media, due to his stupid book and the publisher's PR blitz. Most people didn't begin to hate him until the media finally did its diligence on him after he was given the VP nod.

Not officially but behind the scenes they were already lobbying very hard to get their guy in Trump's sphere of influence for the final stretch of the campaign. It was never, ever going to be a brown person or a woman.

presidential candidate, not Presidential

Grammatical error! We have a grammatical error over here!

Maybe the verasity of a Presidential assassination attempt superseeds grammer eras?

I would posit that the attempted assassination of a mere candidate for President does not carry the same weight as one of a sitting President

This is the obvious occam's razor theory. If the bullet had actually grazed him, there'd be more visible damage. One of the shots missed him by millimeters, close enough for him to feel something, then he accidentally scratched himself. I suppose it might've been debris from a missed shot that nicked him, but I think there'd still be some visible damage.

It was a real attempt though. Trump never in a billion years would knowingly allow someone to fire a real bullet at him and he had no reason to fake it. He was way ahead in the polls at the time. The reason public attention on it dropped so quickly afterward is because they couldn't make a big deal out of the shooter's ethnicity or politics (since he was a white, right wing weirdo), and Biden dropping out for Kamala became the big story very quickly after.
