When my Dad was in the hospital I overheard another patient refer to a Christmas tree as a "devil tree", I'm assuming cuz it has little to do with Jesus, so I won't be surprised if this eventually becomes a new manufactured cultural battleground.

It was a holdover tradition from the Roman winter solstice festival of Saternalia. When Christianity was manufactured and the Christians came into power they found forcing their new made up religion on the Romans by pure force virtually impossible. So they took all of the existing Roman holidays and just wall papered over them with Christian themed bullshit.

That's also where eggs and bunnies come from for Easter as they symbolized rebirth and fertility. In fact, the Easter name was ripped off from the Anglo Saxon celebration "Eostre", and the entire Easter story of resurrection of a deity was blatantly ripped off from the Roman celebration of Hilaria. Which should seem very familiar to Christians:

Quote
  • 15 March. "The Reed Entered". Its exact significance is uncertain (the reeds may refer to the river bank where Attis was exposed as a child and rescued by Cybele). A nine-day period of abstinence from bread, pomegranates, quinces, pork, fish, and probably wine began. Only milk was permitted as a drink.[7]
  • 22 March. "The Tree Entered" (Arbor intrat). A pine tree is felled. The tree is set up at the Temple of Cybele, its trunk wrapped in wool, and its branches decked with wreathes of violets.[5]
  • 23 March. A day of mourning.
  • 24 March. "The Day of Blood" (Sanguis). Frenzied rites including scourging and whipping. The tree is symbolically buried.
  • 25 March. "The Day of Joy" (Hilaria) celebrating the resurrection of Attis. This was the hilaria proper (as opposed to the mournful tone of the previous days).

What percentage of people who claim to be Christians even know any of this? Less than 1 percent? Less than one hundredth of 1 percent?

Christians, about 100%.  "Christians," about 0%.

I was already not buying the narratives but when I learned that much of the Bible, including the old testament, is plagerized from prior myths and legends, it was obvious to me that people who treat it as infallible and sacred and most importantly literal are weird. This was in high school for me after intense Catholic upbringing (avoided molestation thankfully). I'm to the point where I truly think that the vast majority of church goers know deep down that it's not literal and manmade nonsense but like being "part of the club," like a country club but you can fake paying the fees, or even if you're poor, you can tithe a few bucks here and there and still be part of the club. Today, at least in 'murica, it's just a justification for hatred of "others." I'll never be convinced that the hateful bigots who use religion as justification truly believe that shit, they just like that they can be assholes with an excuse.

Also, the whole thing starts in the belief that Jesus would return within the lifetimes of the apostles. For the first time, it occurs to me that the absurd Seventh Day Advantist Church represents the history better than anyone else.

He's not coming.

So many Christians do great things as part of their philosophy which I respect. Just as MAGAts have corrupted the meaning of conservative, the Kingdom Christians and other haters corrupt the message and mythology of Jesus.

There are so many fatal strands to the cable pulling us down.

I'm not sure what the racoon represents. Maybe it's the free world.

I had deeply ingrained Christian brainwashing from youth but it never made any damn sense.

So much so that I spent a lot of time digging into the historical records around college time to find out where it all came from. Was not surprised to find out the buffet line nature of stealing from Babylonian and other cultures. From the early days of Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonian Exile on early Israelites to later wall papering of certain Roman and Germanic festivals and celebrations.

Thankfully, my parents have mostly seen the light on the blatant stupidity of it all over the last couple of decades. The revelation of widespread molestation and rape scandals and cover up by the Church for centuries was the final straw for my mom.

On that note, it’s almost Samhain season!  Though Christianity didn’t really claim fall harvest festival as their own.

160 years.  I think it's a fair assessment to call whatever "progress" has been made regarding Black America, it's glacial in pace.  And, this administration is trying to reverse as much of that as they can.

This administration seems to have a lily white 1950s view of what they want this country to be.  This just happens to coincide with when Dear Leader was a kid.

What are you talking about.  There was huge progress back then.  Everything was just great.

Ever since I rolled into DC in 1997 I’ve said the same thing: America is a center right nation that is deeply racist at its core.

Everything else stems from there.

Alex Jones predicts Trump's 'collapse' due to one key health factor

https://www.themirror.com/news/us-news/alex-jones-trump-health-ankles-1342080

Ronny Jackson always good for a laugh ...

Quote

"As President Trump's former personal physician, former Physician to the President, and White House physician for 14 years across three administrations, I can tell you unequivocally: President Donald J. Trump is the healthiest president this nation has ever seen," the Republican congressman said.

"I continue to consult with his current physician and medical team at the White House and still spend significant time with the President. He is mentally and physically sharper than ever before."

This should give us great comfort that he is overseeing such an important project for the American people.
I mean, look at that pic.  He is as wide as he is tall.

He so desperately wants a real Presidential Palace in D.C.

So, yes. The pagans had big festivals on Easter and Christmas. Christians had big festivals at Easter and Christmas. Jesus died on one and was born on the other. Hm-hm-hm-hmm? Cos…Jesus I do think did exist. He was a guy who had interesting ideas in the Gandhi area, the Nelson Mandela area – relaxed and groovy. The Romans thought, “Relaxed and groovy? No.” So they murdered him.

Kids eat chocolate eggs because the color of the chocolate and the color of the wood on the cross… Well, you tell me. It’s got nothing to do with it, has it? People are going, “Remember kids, Jesus died for your sins.” “Yeah, I know, it’s great.” “No, it’s bad.” “It’s bad. It’s terrible. “Whatever you want. Just keep giving me these eggs.” And the bunny rabbits, where do they come into the Crucifixion? There were no rabbits going, “You putting crosses in our warrens? “We live below this hill, all right?” Bunny rabbits are for shagging, eggs are for fertility. It’s the spring festival.

Christmas time, Jesus born to a big jolly guy in a red jacket. “Ho, ho, ho, baby Jesus. What would you like for Christmas?” “Peace on earth and goodwill towards men.” “What about a clockwork train?” “Yes, much better. Forget peace on earth, I don’t care.”

Over 100 years from emancipation to civil rights.  Glacial is correct. And now we are going backwards.

Anyone who was around in the old Hornfans days knows how I feel about this subject. Certainly @softlynow can recall those discussions.

It’s fascinating to learn how distorted, incomplete, and misleading the story presented as orthodox Christianity really is. I mean, it’s obvious on its face that the narrative is nonsense. But what isn’t so obvious is just how inaccurate the Church’s autobiography is. And the fact that so few bother to look under the hood and challenge the basic ideas on which they base so much of their lives is depressing. There are so many lies to unravel; it feels like wack-a-mole.

Looks like someone woke up this morning with a massively inflated sense of self-importance.

Your opinion on the matter has been noted and duly disregarded.

Here it starts. Consumers buying fewer goods, companies laying off employees, increasing reductions in manufacturing, and objective indicators the stock market won’t be able to continue to ignore. We had magical thinking and tariff delays keeping us afloat but that’s over.
